Perfect for what we required
Pros:

It has character. We were fortunate to have one of the newly refurbished rooms. The hotel will be amazing once completed! Refurbishment did not hinder our stay whatsoever

Convenient for town but would not use again
Pros:

Room was clean but bedspread was worn and tatty, agree that bed and towels don’t need to be changed daily, however, I do expect coffee, milk and tea to be replenished and at this price point biscuits should be provided.
Ordered dinner on my first night, I was the only person eating, service slow, not everything that should have been part of the meal arrived and the lone member of staff present disappeared after serving my main course. I eventually gave up waiting to order dessert and went for a walk into Canterbury.

Cons:

Extremely noisy early morning and was woken by 5 am each day by guests running baths, slamming doors and stomping along the corridor.

Ruined our anniversary night away, Very disappointed I feel robbed
Pros:

The Location is great 10 min walk to town. It’s along a main road close to a Tesco express and a Waitrose

The atmosphere was nice a very quiet hotel with not many cars in the carpark.

I was really disappointed with our stay. The photos on the website are quite misleading — the majority show modern, updated rooms, but the reality was very different. It seems the last couple of images (which are easy to overlook) are a more accurate reflection of what we were given: an old, outdated room in desperate need of refurbishment.

The décor felt tired and neglected, and there were hardly any accessible plug sockets, which made even basic things like charging phones inconvenient. The biggest issue, however, was the lack of soundproofing. The walls were so thin that we could clearly hear the man in the next room snoring — it genuinely felt like he was in the room with us. On top of that, the noise from people walking around upstairs went on throughout the night.

To make matters worse, the room door was so badly fitted that it allowed a significant amount of light from the corridor to stream into the room, leaving it uncomfortably bright throughout the night. Between the noise and the constant light, we got virtually no sleep at all.

Overall, the experience did not match expectations set by the website, and I feel the hotel should be much more transparent about the condition of ALL their rooms.

This night away for our anniversary was thoroughly spoilt by the hotel we chose based on previous reviews left, which I find questionable I complained immediately this morning where I was asked to fill in a complaint form, which I did. The young lady on reception was helpful and apologetic but needed to forward on to her manager. We booked a breakfast which was okay but definitely not worth the price (even though we got ours refunded as way of an apology for our horrendous experience)
The toaster was next to useless as you have to put the bread in several times to get any kind of colour to it. The cooked food was good. Pastries and other foods were also very fresh and nice.

The biggest issue with the breakfast was the tea and coffee (or should I say water with a dishwater colour) the coffee was awful and the teabags, which I have never come across the brand anywhere ever were vile, me and my husband walked to town after to buy a tea and a coffee which you don’t expect to have to do.
I would seriously consider reading my review and taking it 100% gospel before you consider booking a room in this hotel

Good stay on entry to the UK after ferry crossing, we'll come again
Pros:

We enjoyed the stay, as we did in the past. Friendly reception, comfortable room and lovely grounds, the inner city in easy walking distance and outside the busy centre. Nice, quiet, with pleasent breakfast.

Cons:

Only chance for dinner in the evening was a bar snack.

A curious experience. Worth trying, but perhaps only once.
Pros:

The hotel is well situated just outside the centre of Canterbury, but the rather unusual buildings are tired. To the point of exhaustion. The interior decor is unusual, to say the least, with even areas that appear to have been refurbished recently displaying the hand of a remarkably brave interior designer. The bed was not uncomfortable, but ... The bathroom was adequate, once one had negotiated the very sensitive taps to mix the water to a reasonable temperature - the sweet spot between freeze and boil. Breakfast was adequate, but overpriced for what it was. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Free car parking is a bonus, given the high costs of parking in Canterbury, which result is competitors being rather expensive.

Cons:

See above ... But the prize for the worst part of the Best Western Abbots Barton Hotel experience goes to ... the breakfast coffee. So weak that one feared it might be on life support ... And did I say that the coffee was bad? And tasteless? Sound insulation is not a strong feature of the hotel: the floorboards appear to transmit sound from neighbouring rooms - we were awoken early by what sounded like a herd of elephants stampeding through the hotel. The top floor window blinds were torn. Eye masks were essential.

A quiet area near to centre and free parking
Pros:

The location and free car parking was a plus for the hotel.
The breakfast has good options, but coffee was weak even for an espresso option.
The quiet area and no noise on early morning for cleaning were also appreciated.

Cons:

The bath has signs of be old, like marks that are difficult to remove without a proper product. They could do a deep clean with special product or renew the bath.
The shower handle was broken and it was reported (we could work around for one night).
