Location at the airport to catch a very early flight.
The telephone in the room was broken. The staff are cold except a person at the door. The amenity was poor for more than $400 room. This hotel is good for Delta flight, but you can find better price hotel near the airport if you flight from the Evans terminal, United, etc. I made a mistake to choose a hotel for my United flight.
How close it was to the airport especially after seven hours of delay
I’ve stayed many times at this hotel over the years. It is a standard Westin with decent but not too special rooms. Main selling point is, of course, its location just off the main McNamara concourse at DTW. Airport view rooms can be worth it although you may be looking at a wall or people walking on the concourse. The security point between the hotel and terminal can be a time saver. Restaurant is good although breakfast service can be slow.
I am ranking this down from a very good or excellent because of a recent negative experience. We arrived from Europe to find our late connecting flight had been cancelled. I booked a room on points which I later cancelled when we were booked on another late flight to a different area airport. I was expecting to forfeit the points because of the late cancellation. Instead I found five days later that the Westin had charged my credit card for $429. After contacting the hotel’s accounting department I received a strangely phrased and long cut&paste form response stating that, in brief, this was their policy and they couldn’t do anything for me. There is no mention on the booking or cancellation confirmations about this policy. It just states that late cancellations will not receive refunds.
Is this secret policy good for the hotel? It is! Is it good for the customer? No! Is it an unfair and capricious bait and switch? You betcha! It is unfair because it is not stated up front. It is capricious because they can basically change anything they want too irrespective of what the actual $$ rate might have been. Guess I should be glad they didn’t charge $629 or $829?
Oh well, we’ll chalk it up to the greed of yet another company more interested in making a quick buck than respecting long-term clients.
I cannot tell you what an incredible blessing it was for my daughter and I to have stayed at the Detroit Airport Westin! We had already taken off from Detroit to our destination when our plane was turned back to Detroit for mechanical issues. The flight was subsequently delayed overnight and we found ourselves scrambling to make quick decisions about where to stay. I had remembered walking past the Westin in the terminal, so we got on the Marriott app, booked a room, and walked down the terminal to our room. It was amazing! We got a great night sleep and were able to maximize our sleep since all we had to do in the morning is walk out the hotel doors to our own TSA Pre-check right in the terminal where our gate was assigned. The rooms were lovely. The bed was comfortable and the ambiance was sophisticated and calming. While I hope we don’t have to return to this hotel for similar reasons in the future, I would not hesitate to stay here again and again!
Two terminals in Detroit
McNamara & Evans
The Westin is in McNamara
If you’re not on Delta you are most likely in the Evans terminal & if you are checking luggage will have to shuttle to check in.
Pros
Good service
Excellent gym
Clean
Functional
Pool
You can get a pass to eat in terminal
If taking Delta you can walk to check in & if no luggage dedicated TSA entry to terminal.
Cons
Dedicated Westin TSA check point has limited hours.
Not so amazing if flying Alaska or American & have Luggage to check
Valet can be hectic & far from hotel Checkin
The convenience in checking and luggage booking etc.

Convenience to TSA checkpoint
Checked into the Detroit Airport Westin for early next day flight. The valet parking and location are a plus. But the room I got smelled just horrible. Now to the housekeeper’s credit, all surfaces appeared clean, but not good. Ended up having housekeeping try to mask the odor since there was no other room available on the property that evening. Definitely not worth the $500 Marriott charged me. Very disappointed since as a business traveler, this place was way below the Marriott standard I’ve grown accustomed to. For those who read this far, stay away from rom #736.
Super convenient!
Expensive
The property - fine.
The Bedding - who on earth can sleep under - huge - comforters - without running the air C on full blast! Hotels need to stop this huge comforter craze. Absurd!
This hotel is very convienient for catching a flight. Our room was clean and comfortable. We were shorted one coffee cup so if you like morning coffee in the room check what is there. Bed was most comfortable we experinced during our stay in Michigan (used three other hotels). Will stay here again.
Está en el aeropuerto, con su propio check-in y control de seguridad con acceso a la terminal.
Es excesivamente caro para lo que es realmente.
No es desayuno tipo buffet de calidad como debe ser en este tipo de alojamientos a estos precios.
Not much.
What I didn’t like was that they charged me more than the price I reserved! And they came up with a complex response and said gave up fighting with them!
