The location is fabulous. Spectacular views of the redrock formations. The bar/dining area was very nice and took advantage of the views. The staff were great.
The room was noisy. We could hear our neighbors, even when they were just talking. Also a small room and no microwave.
We had actually enjoyed our stay at the hotel, though we were sceptical at first after reading multiple negative reviews. It all depends on your accomodation and price expectations, and reason for the stay. This hotel has lots of rooms with amazing SHARED views, it is centrally located and staff was mostly very helpful, just seem a bit overworked, bar drinks were good with plenty of alcohol and lobby area was amazing, with great views and nightly entertaiment. Please note that this is a 3-star rated hotel, expect rather glorified motel layout. Make sure to get a room which is not facing the parking lot as the only view you will get will be a view of someons else's car parked next to your window (you might be able to request property map in advance). Hotel has no elevator, with floors counting downward, with 3rd floor being on the paking level (I do believe there is an alternative, non-stair access, to downstairs rooms, but check with hotel). And please, please - remember to close curtions to keep yourself private, once again it is a motel layout. This hotel is not for you if you are expecting traditional 4-5 stars hotel experience for price paid or if you are offended by mandatory and parking fees which most of hotels mandate nowdays ( this hotel has $20 destination fee, wich includes $10 food and beverage credit to which they are adding 20% mandatory service charge). Sedona is extremely overpriced, for both food and stays, but this is a popular tourist destination and beautiful place which we were looking forward to visit for a very long time.
We were very pleased with all aspects of this wonderful hotel.
Stunning red rock views, convivial outdoor spaces, and a location that keeps adventure close with a few caveats worth knowing before you book.
First Impressions
We chose Sky Rock for an adventurous three-day, two-night stay built around family time, hiking and exploring the area. The property sits just outside Sedona's center, less than two miles from the main shopping district, a distance that ultimately worked in our favor. Positioned along the quieter corridor between Uptown and West Sedona, it sits near the better end of things, closer to the serious trailheads than to the T-shirt shops without requiring you to run the Uptown gauntlet every time you leave the property.
From arrival, the setting commands attention. The red rocks are front and center, and the hotel's design philosophy feels genuinely intentional: outdoor spaces conceived around the landscape, not just beside it. Molly at the front desk was warm and helpful with local recommendations, which got the stay off to a welcome start. Each guest from our party was allowed to choose a serenity stone with inspirational words written on each. A nice token to return home with to remember the stay.
The lobby earns extra credit for something rarely seen in boutique properties: actual communal life. Games are available to borrow, and guests were using them. We returned from dinner more than once to find people gathered in the lobby at tables and on the couch in front of the fireplace, talking and playing. It's a small detail, but for families especially, it made the lobby a natural place to wind down together before calling it a night.
The Room
We were in a second-floor room with an unobstructed red rock view and that view is the story. It felt immediate, close, alive. Prioritize it when booking; the difference between a view room and a standard room here is significant.
The interiors have been recently refreshed with a clean albeit simple, design-conscious touch. Finishes are current and the space shows it. The layout and size was on the smaller side but sufficient for a family of four. The one miss was a seating area, somewhere to sit other than the bed would have been a nice feature. Managing where to unpack and stow our luggage for a short stay took some creativity. The bathroom carries the same fresh aesthetic, with enough vanity space to spread out our toiletries and other cosmetics, and a comfortably sized standup shower with endless hot water.
Breakfast
Breakfast is served à la carte in the lobby from 7 a.m. The offering itself is simple enough, but the line builds fast. Both mornings the line to order had already backed up shortly after they started taking orders at the bar. For guests planning an early trailhead departure, the timing requires some planning. Just arrive early or plan to eat elsewhere. Town has plenty of café options, but it's worth knowing before you schedule your morning.
Pool & Outdoor Spaces
The pool and hot tub are maintained well and deliver exactly what you need after a long day on the trails. We used both each day.
Where Sky Rock genuinely distinguishes itself, though, is in its outdoor gathering spaces. The fire pit areas became a nightly ritual for us. Dinner finished, back to the property, games in the lobby and then settled outside before turning in. For families traveling with kids, one practical note: bring your own s'mores supplies. The fire pits are in place and lit, but nothing is provided. On one evening, live music on the patio coincided with a Sedona sunset, and the combination was, frankly, perfect.
Location
For an activity-driven trip, the location delivers. Devil's Bridge Trail and Red Rock State Park are a short drive away, and the distance from central Sedona feels like a feature rather than a compromise. One honest note: this is not a walkable property. A car is not optional, it's needed for the trip. Just be prepared though that parking at the Sky Rock is $36 per night.
Final Thoughts
For families and couples who come to Sedona to actually be in Sedona, Sky Rock gets the important things right: extraordinary views, convivial outdoor spaces, and a location that makes the most of everything Sedona offers. It is not a full-service resort, guests arriving with those expectations will be disappointed, but the updated rooms give it a clean look, and the setting does the rest. Factor self parking costs into your nightly rate calculation and manage breakfast logistics early, and this becomes a natural fit for a short, memorable trip.
Ok breakfast
Better food in the evening.
We wish that we had read the reviews of this hotel more carefully. The hotel is in a good location with lovely views, but its chronic poor management does not make it worthy of the Marriott name or the high room rates. The food in the "restaurant" is practically inedible, and the staff looks overworked and tired of hearing complaints. We (other several other guests) were kept waiting for over an hour past the 4pm check-in time because our rooms were not ready. Our first night was pretty unbearable due to a bright strobe light on the smoke alarm flashing all night long. Although we've stayed in many hotels and never encountered this problem before now, the staff insisted that it was "normal" operation but also admitted that they get numerous complaints and the maintenance people spend a lot of time putting stickers over the lights. Bottom line is you pay 4-star rates for a 1-star hotel. Sad, because with proper management it could be a nice place.
The room was a great size and clean. However, the temp was never consistent, it was either freezing or hot at night, other guest complained of the same thing. The pillows were terrible, I barely slept in four days. The breakfast was fine, underwhelming though the staff was great. Overall, we paid for the view, not the property.
The ac/heat/pillows.
Breath taking views
The pool was small and right in the parking lot
Location - near downtown Sedona, in West Sedona. Has a cool retro vibe. Amazing views from communal spaces. Nice to have bar on property.
$36 / night for parking is too much! No elevator up/down 3 exterior sets of stairs, makes arrival and departure *in rain* challenging. King bed in room 110 (Building 2) needs replaced. High price point for moderate amenities.
Prachtige omgeving.
Parkeerkosten van 35 usd per nacht
Amazing location, aesthetic and customer service!
We liked everything!
The room was really run down, not nice at all. It was on a highway and you could hear the cars zooming past all night. I could hear the family in the room next to me -- and hear every word and whisper.
This hotel was great! Conveniently located in Sedona, but feels very private. The outdoor patio has stunning views of the red rocks. Registration and checkout were easy and quick, and all staff were nice. In fact, one morning we planned an early jeep tour and asked for blankets at the front desk. The early morning clerk, Yvonne, left her post to go to the housekeeping office and brought us the blankets - so kind!
A great base for a visit to the area. The only drawback is the emergency light in the room’s ceiling. It made sleep really difficult. Either the light needs to be moved to another part of the room, or some ceiling partition has to be installed.
