Great staff but avoid the breakfast !
Pros:

Lovely friendly staff , nice room. Really let down by a horrid cooked breakfast. Rubber hard eggs and bacon, tinned mushrooms. Even the hash browns were off. The tea station was complicated just to get hot water. Shame, I was so looking forward to what turned out to be a rubbish breakfast with the food cooked at least an hour before and held on hot plates

Noisy and very disappointing. No security staff to monitor activity through the night.
Pros:

Location
I am a Bristolian so knew the area well. Arnos Hotel was never the best so there were no real surprises.

Cons:

The room itself was fine. The bathroom was disgusting. The hand basin had a huge crack in it. The taps didn’t work properly and the floor was yellow from possibly urine and very sticky. We didn’t even attempt to a shower.

Reasonable price and location but
Pros:

The reception staff were excellent, especially Emily who explained everything in detail and provided advice.

The room size was adequate. The catering and bar staff were friendly.

Cons:

Every morning I would ask for a glass of soda water from the pump. The first two morning the reception staff would get me the water from the bar and when I offered to pay was told they do not charge for the water. On the 3rd morning I was charged £3.20, for a glass of soda water from the pump, I was totally shocked. Having stayed at many hotels at which nearly everyone the soda water was free and the most I have ever been charged was £1. When I questioned it, the young lady with a foreign accent firstly didn't understand and then just brushed it off saying I had to pay.

The room I was in had no bedside lamp, so I had to walk in the dark from the door to the bed, very risky. I questioned this twice and nothing was done about it.

Wouldn't wish this place on my enemy
Pros:

The building looked pretty from the outside. The price was reasonable. I'm struggling for anything else nice to say.

Cons:

There was no lift, despite the hotel having multiple floors and relatively tight staircases (which for an old building is perhaps understandable, but the absence of a lift should have been advertised at the booking stage). Navigating narrow stairs with heavy luggage can be difficult and unsafe at the best of times.

There was no in-room fridge, or access to one when I asked at Reception. Staff had initially said they would help by storing items in the kitchen's fridges but after buying perishable items and returning to the hotel with them the story changed due to "health and safety". Idiots. Had to go out again to buy a cool box and ice cubes and somehow make do with that.

The restaurant was closed without advance notice on the Bank Holiday Monday.

There was severe repeated noise nuisance from other guests. Loud music, shouting, etc. Walked down to Reception at 3am / 4am to complain, twice. Guests ignored staff advice and continued making a nuisance. Apparently the hotel staff called the local police, who then ignored the call saying they had other things to deal with. I appreciate some people are thoughtless but if the staff can't control some of their guests, where does that leave the other guests? Something to think about when booking.

There was no phone in the room. Your options are either to walk (down all the narrow staircases) or use your mobile and call. Maybe they assume everyone has mobiles these days, but I've actually never been in a hotel before which didn't provide an internal phone in the room.

To round off the experience, there was out of date milk cartons provided in the room. Resembled yoghurt when opened.

Thanks a lot Arnos Manor. I won't be returning.

Pros:
