This is a wonderful hidden gem!!! Everything was so beautiful. Our first time but not our last. No other hotel in South Boston Va can hold a candle to The Berry Hill Hotel & Conference Center. We have been to all of the other hotels & this is by far the best. Customer service was amazing! Thank you all so much!!
Awesome stay! Will be back!
Disappointed is the best way to describe the experience. As a photo opp location it is good. But, when you look closer you start to notice how run down it has become.
The front desk staff are petulant and condescending, The continental breakfast was probably the worst I have seen in 25 years. All the items that should have been hot, were stone cold. The fruit was molding. Hello, can you say Health Code Violation? Eating at the "Darby's Tavern" is a travesty. Definitely the worst place I ever eaten at. I have never been served a steak with more grissle and fat. Totally uneatible. Grèen beans with the stems still on, and mashed potatoes that were days old and had been barely microwaved. And that's after waiting 20 minutes to get the order taken and then waiting an additional 55 minutes to be served such a disgusting meal.
Staff are prompt professional and friendly.
The property is absolutely beautiful! And the grounds are equally lovely
loved it
Location , old looking not update
This property is very historic and off the beaten path. If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle this is the place. Super quiet almost eerily so. Parking was a chore. Breakfast/brunch was very convenient. Would go back but with a better idea of what is offered.
Only complaint was Bed was extremely hard for us- otherwise enjoyed our stay and looking forward to going again.
Neat property! We want to return and spend more time checking out the historical places on the property. We stayed because we live out of town, but work near the resort. It was great that everything was at the property, and after a long day, we were just able to relax! The Tavern was great! Food was good and service was impeccable!
Only stayed one night so did not use many amenities, but a wonderful place. We will be back!
Adorable property. Look forward to staying again in the future.
The room and basic facilities were very nice, clean and well-maintained. The breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Darby's Tavern had great food and a great assortment of beverages. I could not find an ice machine that worked anywhere in the complex. Truly a beautiful facility!
Great building and staff was lovely
Its not the same old chain hotel. Its a throw back in time. Get out of your box and try it
I stay at Berry Hill every time I’m in town. I love everything about it- it’s comfortable, clean, convenient- it’s great. This time, I had my sisters staying with me, and we decided to take advantage of the pool. The pool was SO hot it felt like a hot tub. On a high-90s August day. That’s my only complaint. Maybe consider having the pool heated only in the colder months, and allow guests a cool dip in the dog days of summer. Or at least don’t have it SO hot. Very unpleasant. Another guest in the pool area shared our sentiments. Other than that, great stay, as always! :)
We enjoyed the colonial atmosphere and architecture. The staff was very friendly.
We booked the Bruce Suite in the historic mansion at Berry Hill Resort for a special couples weekend. Unfortunately, the main house was affected by water damage and strong musty odors, and the spa services fell short of expectations.
Upon arrival, it was immediately clear that the mansion was dealing with a major water issue. The entire second floor (where our suite was located) had multiple dehumidifiers and fans running, and the air was heavy with a musty, moldy smell. While the suite itself was climate controlled, the environment was unpleasant, and it was obvious that water damage was actively being managed.
Because of this, we asked to be moved to the newer hotel wing. That section of the property was much fresher, cleaner, and comfortable. However, while the staff did accommodate the move, we were disappointed that we were not refunded the approximately $250 difference in room rate. We paid for the Bruce Suite, but ended up in a standard hotel room instead.
To be clear, there are positives here:
• The grounds and setting are beautiful.
• Staff were polite and tried to be accommodating.
• The newer wing is in better condition and provides a much more comfortable stay.
But future guests should know I strongly recommend avoiding the historic main house rooms. If you’re considering Berry Hill, book a room in the newer wing. The suites are located in the main house and they should be avoided.
The spa services were as other reviewers have stated - hit and miss. Out of three couples, two had "good" experiences, but one never received their treatment because the staff couldn't accomodate the pre-booked time. Rates are charged at a high-end level, but service quality doesn't match the pricing.
This could be a fantastic resort experience, but right now the mansion suites do not deliver the comfort or health standards expected at this price point. The newer hotel section is fine.
Other feedback:
We enjoyed our dinner at Darby's Tavern. Our food was excellent and we had excellent service. We ate there twice during our weekend stay.
Molasses Grill in nearby Halifax, VA is not to be missed. Excellent food and service. Would highly recommend this resturant. It's about 10 minutes away from the Berry Hill.
Factory Street Brewing is a welcoming community space with friendly staff and good beer - highly recommended.
The continental breakfast was horrible… I’ve had way better at cheaper hotels.
This was our second stay at the Resort. It was just as great as the first time. People are friendly, great Darby's Tavern makes you feel like you are in the era. The mansion is very interesting to look around in and the grounds are fabulous. Last butnot least, the staff are friendly and aim to please! We really do recommend a stay, especially if you want to relax and just chill!
