Came to this hotel for Christmas day, no bar, no entertainment!! The room we were put in was full of mould on walls, freezing cold and toilet was black with feaces. When complaining and asking for room change, we were made to feel like liars as they sent someone to check the room. Disgusting!! The drawers in our friends room was full of cigarette butts. Never again!!
Don't touch this hotel with a barge pole!! We booked for 22 July. That morning we received a "hope you enjoy your stay" email and on arriving in the afternoon were greeted by a locked and empty hotel with a message on the entry door saying it was temporarily closed. We later found out that it had been closed for sometime. Booking.com are currently investigating this on our behalf
Turned up at the hotel to be shown a message saying please telephone as the hotel is closed for unforeseen circumstances. following discussion and numerous telephone calls, and then booking into the Cavendish Hotel, to be told the HOTEL HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR SOME CONSISDERATION WEEKS. the booking was through Booking.com and the hotel change is a SCAM! DO NOT BOOK AND STAY THERE. we were not the only people to be disappointed on this occasion. please be very mindful.
The room was clean and the bed very comfortable.
However the whole hotel was very run down and scruffy. no air con nor a fan
Despite what I had heard they don't provide parking permits to guests
Reception only staffed from 11.00
Terrible hotel. Avoid!!!
List of problems at hotel:
- No personnel at front desk at check-out time (before 11am) - this is a complete red flag, as it makes it difficult to have them deal with any issues
- no direct phone number to the hotel available. Only a number to a general helpdesk, where staff is friendly but not knowledgeable
- no inclination to offer any customer service - I encountered a dirty bathroom floor and showed them the dirt picked-up with my towel. They only offered to take action the next day, leaving me with a dirty bathroom.
I checked out a day early, because they had not dealt with my complaint the evening before. Customer service when I went back to complain and hopefully reclaim some of my money for the second night, was horrible.
Problems with the room:
- dirty bathroom floor
- very dusty room, a lot of dust in room corners, underneath desk and on top of wardrobe
- unsafe electric connection to fridge (unfused extension lead)
- missing curtain hooks so curtains don't close
- no mattress or pillow protectors - not meeting basic hygiene standards
- one pillow was badly stained
- only one very bright light in the room. No bedside lamps
- bathroom lamp not meeting bathroom safety standards
- bins without bin liners (they were lucky I did not have my period!)
- people drinking alcohol and smoking weed in hotel entrance
- incredibly worn, old and tatty room
The only positives about this hotel are room size, location and the sea view from my room and I have nothing bad to say about the cleanliness of sheets and towels.
The sad thing is that the building is beautiful and with well cared for rooms, this could be a lovely hotel. Currently, it is not.

Please if you book this hotel CANCEL NOW ! This is a cheap and nasty horrible dirty hotel not even a one star. Our room was big filthy carpet old furnished. The bedside light never worked. The curtains never met missing links on the pole had to use a chair to keep hold of the curtains shut they also were see through no blackout. Only could open one window. The bathroom was poor water pressure low bath was dirty cheap rough towels too.Couldn’t sleep at night as people they put up in the hotel sat on the steps outside smoking drinking and talking out loud. When returning to rooms was noisy too The lift was full of some liquid on the floor on one occasion. Reception staff very unhelpful and treated us as though we were a rehousing person. This hotel should never take bookings or put on any hotel website. Also should be reported to the Eastbourne tourist board to check what it says
what a horrid place and horrid staff !!!! DO NOT STAY HERE !!!!
lady on reception when we ariived early said that not a hope in hell could we check in before 4pm ! charming ! when we asked to change room because ours was so horrific we were told they were fully booked and no room has a sea view anyway !!! lol !!! really !!! isnt this the seaside ! we asked to change rooms as the fridge in there was pushed right up against the long dirty broken curtains which was such a fire hazard there was no where else to put the fridge as the room was so small !
The lift is like stepping a broom cupboard, its dirty its run down no bar no where to get food - it basically hasnt recovered since lockdown and has been left to rot ! needa a whole new revamp, re think and new staff with personality and a smile and polite !
It is actually disgusting the rooms were filthy curtains were broke the bathroom light didn't work there are stains all over the bathroom walls definitely not worth the money I asked to move rooms due to anxiety issues the staff at reception was really rude and didn't take my mental health into consideration never staying here again I asked for a refund and he has said its not refundable witch wasn't stated at check in not happy at all !!
What a bizarre place it was actually giving me the creeps I couldn’t figure out what it was a hostel or a hotel. On arrival they wanted me to pay £100 deposit in cash!! I stayed one night even though I was booked for the week. Room was very cheap and worth less then 100. On the plus side it was quiet and slept ok but the place needs a big makeover and no jumping through hoops on check in.
Omg please please DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS HOTEL.. it is filthy dirty I wouldn't leave my dog there .. me and my partner booked in and booked straight out it an absolute pit
Our room smelt discussing
The carpet didn't even reach the walls
The waste pipe from the toilet was leaking
The whole place is stuff of nightmares
Omg.......this has got to be the worst place I have set foot in....I.would.say stayed at.but we lasted less than an hour.
Hotel was dirty,.smelly, room smelt of a.mixture of old.disinfectant and a ncp car.park. probably due to the leaking soil pipe on the toilet or maybe the old food and towels left in the wardrobe ...or it could of been the subway wrapper left between the wall.and the fridge .
The carpet didn't reach the walls, stained and dirty that it was . The bathroom floor was filthy ,.as was the toilet. The walls were marked and stained.
When we were leaving there were residents walking up the stairs sniffing nox, an absolute.pit of a.place. the pictures others.have put on here are from before it was the diamond....it has been left to.fall to ruin....
the worst hotel I have ever stayed in its more like a hostel its really dirty cups in room wasn't even washed carpet full of stains bathroom full of cobwebs no toilet roll cold tap in sink no water no plug for bath the only good thing about this place is leaving never again please don't waste your money there are far better hotels for less money
I booked this hotel in advance 2 weeks. Had a letter from them 1 day before my stay that my booking was cancelled because of the “circumstances” that they didn’t even explained… On same they they putting the room booking online even for less, it was 89 instead of 120 (that I had paid). Who can explain me this? Just taking money in advance
I stayed in this Hotel in June last year and it is one of the worst Hotels I have stayed in. I had no hot water after the first night and had to keep filling with the kettle. Even in the day time. The response from the lady on the Reception was not good.
The bath was absolutely filthy before I used it so I had to scrub it clean as well as the bed cover stains. There were broken items (see photos.) There was even a broken chair with nails sticking out outside the room which is a health and safety hazard. At least you can open the window wide though unlike other Hotels!
When I asked for extra towels I was told I would be charged extra for clean towels!!! When she told me that the Cavendish charge extra for towels I corrected her (that is one GOOD thing about the Cavendish Hotel.) She then asked me how many Hotels in Eastbourne I had stayed in so I told her a lot (not all reviewed.)
I would avoid this Hotel at all costs
Steer clear!! Mould on walls, light fitting in bathroom coming away from ceiling. Filthy toilet. Staff never at reception!! Made to feel a liar when asked to change room. Friends room had cigarette butts on floor and in draw.
This is a very basic hotel, but considering how cheap it was you couldn’t complain.
The room was average, bed comfy and while the bathroom was a bit cramped it was clean. Only down side was there was only a small amount of loo roll in the room.
The staff were friendly and helpful. The views of the sea were amazing and the hotel decor was quirky. It is close to the pier, theatres and town centre.
To be honest, if you’re looking for luxury accommodation, the Diamond Hotel is not for you. If you are looking for a cheap place to stay in comfort, the Diamond Hotel is custom fitted to your needs.
I visited the Diamond Hotel as a last minute night away. We arrived to a warm welcome and a very quick and easy check in. I asked about parking as I couldn't get any of the machines to work using card only cash, which I didn't have any cash on me. I was offered a parking permit straight away for £2 which was valid until check out the next day, which was amazing value as it would have cost me alot more if I'd of got the machine to work, so glad it didn't!
We stayed in room 209 which had an amazing sea view and was quite big with everything you would need for a night away. The bed was really comfortable, I didn't want to get out of bed Sunday morning! We asked for late check out, which was they said would be £10 extra (very reasonable and happy to pay) but when we did check out, Nor (sorry if I spelt your name wrong) said not to worry about the charge and didn't charge us any extra, which was so kind and very much appreciated! Our whole stay was lovely and always someone around if we needed anything. We will definitely come back and stay again and be recommending to friends and family.
The hotel is also perfect location and easy walking distance to the town and super close to the pier.
Thank you for a lovely stay and we will definitely be back soon.
Victoria
We booked a week here and due to vehicle breakdown in France were unable to make the date. We phoned to inform and after a few days to cancel completely. We were fobbed off with lines such as phone later and someone will ring you back tomorrow. Of course they never did and refused to credit us any of our £524 for a future stay a few weeks later. A very short sighed policy as we would have been regular visitors as would some of our friends and relatives. The hotel had empty rooms and no one was turned away whilst they "saved" our room for us.
Last minute check in.
Pros
Clean bedding
Hot water
Cable TV
Kettle with T and coffee
Clean towels ( but coarse)
Beach side view
Free wifi
Cons
Dirty carpet ( with hair on it-not mine I’m bald)
Floor uneven,floorboards raised and creaking
Ceiling light had no bulb
Plug socket away from beds behind Chester drawers
No bath plug - had to use sink to wash 2 year old as he likes baths not shower
After 3 flushes stool still would not go and very noisy when flushing
Patio doors lead out onto balcony but there is no railing or anything to stop anyone especially a child from falling to the ground from the 1st floor (very dangerous)
Patio doors have no lock ( anyone from other rooms could climb out of their window onto the balcony and into my room, I had to put a dresser by the door for safety
This hotel was last minute no time to research it.
I stayed in 109 and can only comment on that room and not on the overall condition of the hotel
Very old, dark and dingy hotel that needs a full refurb inside and out. You only need to look from the outside that it’s going to be bad !!!
Our room wasn’t very clean !
Curtains hanging off , plug sockets held on with sellotape , lamps not working , phone not working , holes in walls , plugs hanging off of the hair dryer , broken dirty wardrobe, dirty carpets, head board broken .
Our friends were also staying here and their room was even worse (we compared rooms and ours was ok in comparison)
No food served (although this may have been a positive) and bar was completely closed down, so no drinks or anything !
Rickety old lift and very strange old decor .
Positives of our stay was that the bed was comfy , view was amazing and good location . (Although you can get the same view just up the road in a much nicer hotel )
I don’t think that this hotel should even be open until they have at least got the staff to be able to clean the rooms properly , or open the bar , do some rooms up a few at a time ? Even a lick of paint throughout the whole place would cheer it up for now …
