Dear owners,
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding my recent stay at the Aigburth Hotel on Dec 05 -09, under booking confirmation 5072305658. My experience at your property was unacceptable, unsafe, and far below any reasonable standard of hospitality. I am therefore requesting a full refund.
Upon arrival, the hotel appeared completely unstaffed. There was no one at reception at night, in the morning, or later in the afternoon, leaving guests without support or even access to basic necessities. I am six months pregnant, and not being able to obtain fresh drinking water placed me in an extremely distressing and unsafe situation.
The first room provided was in an appalling condition. It had a strong, unpleasant odour, and the amount of dust present made it resemble a construction site. It was clearly unsanitary and unsafe. Guests in front of me also complained, and the elderly couple travelling with me refused to stay in such conditions.
Management then moved us to the front of the hotel and offered what they referred to as a “suite,” which was equally unacceptable. In addition, the manager repeatedly referred to me as “big boss,” a comment I found inappropriate and insulting.
The alleged suite contained:
Mould on the windows
Leaves on the bathroom floor
Bugs inside the lighting fixtures and elsewhere in the room
Cobwebs throughout the space
I was travelling with elderly dependants, who were exhausted and had no alternative accommodation at 11pm. We had no car and nowhere else to go at that hour. I did not feel safe in this hotel, either physically or hygienically.
The following day, I was forced to spend $200 on an Uber to hire a car and move everyone to a safe, clean hotel—one that cost the same but actually met basic standards. As we left, the manager followed me outside and attempted to offer a third room, another “bigger suite,” which I declined. At that point, I had no confidence in the hotel’s ability to provide safe drinking water for me, my unborn baby, or my elderly relatives.
This entire experience was humiliating, distressing, and completely unacceptable, especially given my pregnancy and my responsibility for vulnerable travellers. The fact that I have even had to write this complaint after such conditions—and after not being offered an immediate refund—is extremely disappointing.
Given the serious health, safety, and hygiene failures, and the total lack of functioning staff, I am requesting a full refund for booking.
This complaint was never taken by customer service!!
The room smelt of wet dog and had black mould, the smoke alarms were covered by toilet roll, the main lights didn’t even work, you could hear every noise from every room, the bed was uncomfortable, the window had green moss growing on it and was drafty, the lock never felt secure and someone actually came into our room whilst we were sleeping, the manager refused to accept responsibility, became verbally abusive and threatened to call the police when issues were raised.
Lovely welcome, and efficient service. I was upgraded to the business suite, which was huge, lovely clean crisp bedding, massive bathroom and everthing you may need.. Would definitely stay there again..
This hotel is barely 3-star. It was unclean, untidy and unkempt. The description online is not accurate and the place is in significant need of upgrade. The photos are clearly taken from years ago. The lobby area is dirty and the doors are covered in grime. The hotel manager was sitting at a chair in the ‘glasshouse’ and after 48 hours the table was covered in dirty crockery and food wrappers. It had been cleaned at all. The glasshouse was littered with rubbish bags, a mattress on the floor and curtains. Sitting on the bed - you went straight through to the frame. Mattresses are cheap and you wouldn’t want to sleep on them. This is not a place anyone should consider staying at. I have requested a refund for dishonest and inaccurate advertising (don’t believe the photos) but the hotel manager has refused to comply as of yet - hence this very negative review. Please look elsewhere for somewhere to stay.
First room we were given the door didn't lock and there was water pouring through the air vent in the bathroom moved us to a different room but in the middle of the night our door which has a key pad to open, opened and a man tried to enter our room twice , in 25 years of coming to Liverpool this is probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed in so much so we left at 06,30 the next morning to go home avoid this place
My wife and I stayed here for one night while attending a birthday party in Liverpool.
The building is very impressive and was once a wedding venue. Unfortunately it has seen better days and needs a lot of money spending on it.
The whole ground floor is basically an empty shell. The reception desk is not manned but there is mobile number to call when checking in.
The lift was out of order when we stayed but I'd also read previous reviews mention this also.
The room was clean and functional but was showing signs of years of neglect. We opened the window and the wooden frame came away from the glass at the bottom.
Overall it was OK, a bit pricey at £180 for 1 night but OK. I hope the new owners plan to invest and try and restore this place to its former glory.
From the warm welcome as soon as we arrived Hassan and his Son could not have been more helpful and friendly. The hotel is undergoing some work to renovate this beautiful Victorian building, the rooms are lean and comfy and the real feel of a family run hotel makes it a great place to stay. Eating In lark lane round the corner is fantastic and a walk around the beautiful Sefton park is essential, great location it will be my place to stay on every Lpool visit
The hotel was old and dirty, my bedroom had chips in the doors and woodwork. My TV had 1 or 2 televisions and the rest were foreign language. The window didn’t close properly and was extremely dirty with cobwebs and dirt. The room seemed to have a bug problem with bugs found in and around the room. The room had a strong smell of cigarette smoke enough to make me feel sick
Great hotel, sitting on the edge of Sefton Park.
Easy check in even though I was late getting down from Glasgow.
Hassan the hotel manager, WhatsApp me my room access key allowing me to go directly to my room without having to worry about the late check in.
Plenty of parking spaces and costs £5 for 24 hours, on par with parking in the city.
Hassan also upgraded my room to a lovely suit which was very much appreciated, roll top bath, large double shower, and a bed that could sleep a family.
Room and bathroom spotless.
If im back in the area I would have no hesitation in stopping in this hotel again.
A short walk from the hotel there are fabulous restaurants and bars to enjoy an evening out.
And then there is the park on your doorstep, well worth a stroll to walk off your dinner.
My stay was amazing. My room was cosy, warm and clean. Very comfortable. Very good location by Sefton Park,
The staff was very helpful.
I highly recommend it
A cool and peaceful hotel… special thanks to the manger, Hassan Nazeim who helped us with everything we asked… amazing. I recommend coming here.
THIS IS NOT A BEST WESTERN.
The photos on the website in no way resemble this hotel.
I booked a Best Western, so knew what I was getting—or so I thought.
We checked in and, running late for an event, quickly dropped our bags and headed out.
It wasn’t until we returned around 2:45am that we discovered the room was in a shocking state: dirty, damp, and dusty walls; a stained carpet; an odd smell in the bathroom; and an exterior light beaming into the room through curtains that wouldn’t shut. The sheets were stained, the window frames were rotten and cracked, and there was cosmetic damage to nearly every item and surface. I couldn’t even bring myself to get into the bed. If I hadn’t needed to collect equipment nearby on the Sunday, I would have left immediately. I have asthma and it's a good job I had inhalers with me.
We weren’t alone. In the morning, we encountered three other groups of guests who were equally appalled. I understand the property has just changed ownership, but that’s no excuse. The owners should not be accepting bookings until the rooms meet basic hygiene and safety standards. This was not just disappointing—it was wholly unacceptable.
Hassan was a great host, provided great service upon arrival and helped out when required too. I stayed here twice in 1 week. Great location, across from Sefton park and easy routes into the city.
Georgous hotel smelt amazing as soon as you came in Hassan is a lovely man my husband and i booked a room and Hassan immediately changed and upgraded our room as my husband has asthma and needed more window air spotless room and bathroom with coffees and teas etc I recommend staying here and its really cheap we paid £46 and it was worth well more i would definitely stay here again x
Owner were absolutely amazing very friendly and welcoming would definitely recommend staying here I will definitely be coming back and it’s lovely location to 😀👌
4 weeks before my daughters communion they cancelled by email our function room booking, that we had booked 6mths in advance.
No warning just sorry we are cancelling your booking & dep etc will be refunded within 30days.
Sadly the booking was cancelled so last minute that we couldn’t secure another venue for our daughter’s communion celebration.
I’ve since found out, that this is one of the hundreds of hotels cashing in on the government’s diabolical migration scheme to houses these poor folk in a hotel room for months / if not years on end.
While theses hotel companies make a huge profit, this sadly do have a knock on effect economically on local areas & business, they no longer have people staying / tourists spending money locally.
For the price this is a good find, bar was closing when we got there so limited in that respect, room was decent albeit a little dated, small bathroom. But very decent for the price
We booked our stay in October 2022 for this next week May 12th 2023
The Hotel then canaled our booking without any notice.
This has left us stuck with no where to stay! I will never recommend this hotel
Very disappointed with our stay at this hotel. Room was very outdated. Premium price paid. Mattress was in need of replacement. Very uncomfortable. No cleaning service to room for duration of stay. Staff pleasant.
Wedding noise meant we had to be moved room even though when i checked in i was assured we would not be disturbed by the noise. In reality our room was right over the wedding disco and the noise was awful.
