Professional property host/manager
Our stay at Quinta da Bela Vista was outstanding! The staff were all exceptional, friendly, cheerful, thoughtful and went out of their way to help in every respect. The food was excellent, the gardens were beautifully maintained, the room was spacious and the pool was clean and warm enough to use in January.
We highly recommend this characterful hotel, filled with beautiful antiques, rugs and paintings. An absolute gem!
Great stay! You felt you were staying in a beautifully maintained National Trust property!
All the staff from housekeeping through front of house to the waiting team were delightful and couldn’t do enough for you. Really recommend the half board option as the 4 course evening meal was always a highlight, and very varied. Thank you chefs!
Grounds and pool were lovely, although sadly it looked like the very mature box hedges had succumbed to the dreaded box blight, so the front of the Quinta was not as impressive as it must have been in past years.
I can't recommend this Hotel enough.
It's a lovely mid 19th century manner house, set in a residential district, on a hill above Funchal, with lovely views over the city, best enjoyed at night .
It's quiet and away from all the hubbub of the city.
There is a courtesy bus in and out of town, last bus back at 6.15pm I think.
The rooms, are very comfortable, beds slightly firm, but not to hard, I found.
two comfortable easy chairs, a desk, TV, safe, and sufficient hanging space, and draws.
Everything about it is firstclass. ALL the staff are friendly, polite, helpful, and very professional.
We stayed 7/1/26 - 14/1/26, half board, with inspired luxury escapes, (another company I recommend very highly, great service) the food is excellent, great quality, buffet breakfast, you can request fried or poached eggs, or an omelette, cooked how you like them.
Dinner is a set four courses, soup, fish, meat, and desert, dinner starts at 7.30pm and it pays to be there about this time, then you get your meal nicely paced, if you get there at say 8pm, you might find you feel a bit rushed.
There is a lovely little pool café/restaurant, that serves drinks, snacks, and a full lunch/dinner menu, I think from 10am-10pm.
The crowning glory, has to be the Manner house restaurant, very smart, and excellent food, and the icing on the cake, is there lounge, very smart, very comfortable, with a dreamy log fire, worth going early, for pre dinner drinks, and/or lingering after dinner, to finish your drinks, or maybe a coffee
very good position, wonderful garden, very good breakfast with fresh and often regional products. All the staff was extremely kind and efficient. Ecerything was absolutely clean. You can use very fascinating common areas.
Yet, we would like not to find moquette in the room nowadays...maybe they are going to change this.
This was our third visit to the Quinta da Bela Vista, which should tell readers something! We love this hotel: the rooms are spacious and clean, the atmosphere is relaxed, quiet and peaceful, the food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. Every member of staff, the cleaning, pool, restaurant and reception staff are efficient, keen to help, professional and, above all, friendly. We feel very ‘at home’ here, which is why we’ve returned three times within the space of one year. We have spent two Christmases, one late spring and one New Year here and all have been exceptional experiences. The facilities (pool, gym and tennis court) are very good and the gardens are peaceful and filled with interesting plants. It’s a haven for gardeners. It may be a little distance from the centre of Funchal, for those who like to be in the middle of a city ‘buzz’, as it’s a 30-minute walk into the centre, but the courtesy bus takes you there in 5 minutes and, when it’s not running at weekends, the local bus is nearby, efficient and cheap. We went half-board and the 4-course table d’hote menu was excellent. There is a more relaxed pool bar/restaurant and an a la carte restaurant in the old manor house, which, like the main mansion house, has a lovely quiet library for guests to make use of. The whole atmosphere of this hotel is one of timeless elegance and relaxation and we would not hesitate to recommend it. After a busy day in Funchal centre or going on the many tours available to tourists, it is a haven of peace and quiet, where you will be guaranteed a warm welcome, good food and a peaceful night’s rest.
Fantastic and super friendly service from start to end of our holidays. Superb breakfast and very nice dinner in the Manor house. Food at the poolhouse very good with exceptional service. Traditional setting, clean and spacey rooms. Good location with shuttle service. No remarks whatsoever and can only recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Madeira.
If you wish a hotel enjoyably different stay here. The house is full of interesting antiques. Comfortable en-suite bedrooms with plentiful hot water and good housekeeping. Excellent evening meals both in taste and presentation. Breakfast with a fabulous choice but the hot dishes were lukewarm always and only cold plates provided
The hotel is elegant and set in its own beautiful gardens. A relaxing, quiet atmosphere with large rooms. Ours was kept exceptionally clean and tidy. Service from the attentive, friendly staff was always superb. The set menu 4 course dinner was always delicious. We have stayed here before and will stay here again.
We had the most amazing time at Quinta da Bella Vista. We’re in our 60’s. The staff were really fantastic. Really helpful and always happy to help. We mainly stayed at the hotel, around the pool and using the facilities such as the Jacuzzi but did get the free shuttle bus into Funchal for a trip on the Cable Car up to the TropicalGardens which we really enjoyed. We stayed half board and the food was great - varied menu and top quality. I’m fairly confident we will return!
Lovely staff, excellent food. State of room decor was a little tired (eg: cracked wall tiles in bathroom). Poor coordination between reception and housekeeping led to avoidable delay at check-in. Overall a very enjoyable time.
We had lovely week. Staff from rececetion to resturant are all very polite and helpfull.
Our room was spotless cleaned everyday.
Breakfast was plentifull. Our 4 coarse dinner always very tasty.Thank you to chef who made me yummy vegetable dinner. I will recomment this hotel to my friends and family. Peacefull stay and will surely come back. Once againt thank you Carina for looking after us.
A very comfortable hotel, was a family home, lovely antiques, which makes it more homely. Very peaceful, lovely grounds, swimming pool. Being out of town, ( a shuttle bus from the hotel into Funchal ran every day),gave it a quieter atmosphere
.in the main dining room a 4 course meal was provided every evening. I think the chef was keen to experiment sometimes, sauces failed to compliment the main ingredient!
The other resteraunt, The Manor House, booking essential was superb, silver service, atmosphere!
The rooms were large, well cleaned equipped , comfortable beds.
All staff from the reception the cleaners
, gardeners were very helpful, friendly and helpful.
Overeall a very calm place to relax and ‘chill,’
Beautiful hotel and wonderful staff offering great hospitality at reception, housekeeping and food and beverage.
We did find the hotel lacked any evening vibes and some service in the hotel bar as an alternative to using the pool bar.
Disappointed that the shuttle bus is not available at the weekend.
The Quinta is in a beautiful location with gardens and views over Funchal. We chose to go half board and the food was exceptional - we would definitely recommend this option. Our daughter, despite being the only child staying in the Quinta, really enjoyed herself. She loved the swimming pool, visiting the turtles in one of the ponds and also appreciated the efforts from the staff to make her stay fun. The staff deserve a special mention as without exception they were cheerful and extremely helpful. We hope to return!
This is a beautiful hotel within its own exrensive garden grounds. It is perfect for couples seeking a bit of peace and quiet yet not far from yhe bustling capital of Funchal. The food was excellent. They offer a fixed 4 course menu, a Manor House A la Carte and a poll bar menu. All good value. We ate at the pool twice.. the fixed price once, and the Manor House once.. one night we went out to town. The hotel offers a shuttle bus at predefined times to travel to Funchal but we found UBER was the best option for cost and flexibility. The rooms were spacious and tidied daily. The staff were outstanding.. friendly and informative with great English and good sense of humour.
All the positives in previous reviews are spot on and we had a lovely holiday staying at this hotel & can't wait to return. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. All staff were so friendly and polite. The breakfast was really good with plenty of choice and the handful of meals we had were lovely. We used the supermarket round the corner which also had a lovely cafe. We used the courtesy minibus a couple of times and the local buses were really easy to use if you wanted to travel into town at different times to the minibus or at the weekend. The hotel also helped us arrange car hire which we enjoyed for a few days. All in all, an amazing experience in a really bespoke hotel where we were made to feel very special.
Really enjoyed our stay at Bela Vista. Thanks to all the staff, especially Paula, Carina,Sonia, Magda and Eusabio. We were made to feel very welcome.

Pleasant quiet hotel to stay at, the staff are very helpful and can't do enough for you. The rooms are dated but very clean and well appointed, the breakfast is exceptional as are the other meals. The hotel is not central but offers a drop off/pick up day time curtesy minibus Monday-Friday so be prepared to use taxis out with these days/times.
From the first day we arrived to the last, this was an amazing, relaxing experience. The hotel and it's surroundings were beautiful and tranquil. Staff were helpful and friendly. We had a great break away and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Just returned from a weeks holiday at this sumptuous venue.
My summary comments are as follows:
1) Venue - traditional, well maintained, family owned estate house with large, well manicured gardens. Located in a quiet suburb of Funchal.
2) Amenities - delightful mature gardens, outdoor swimming pool (we didn't use it but it looked fine), gym, sauna, and jacuzzi.
3) Dining - we took the half board package, which was excellent. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive, and could not be faulted. Same for the four course evening dinner.
4) Staff - without exception, every one of the team at this venue was professional, polite, and willing to help. Staff in the dining room deserve special praise as they were true professionals at their craft, as was the chef and associated team.
5) Rooms - large, air-conditioned, immaculately clean (praise to the house keeping team) and well appointed. Our had lovely views over the gardens.
This is a quality venue, and if don't mind paying a little extra to ensure you have a memorable holiday, then I can totally recommend it.
