Professional property host/manager
Our stay at Quinta da Bela Vista was excellent the staff were friendly and the food was delicious, dining experience was top notch. Breakfast was also very good although buffet style catering there was never any problem having freshly cooked food. We were lucky to upgrade our bedroom with a small additional cost to obtain a better view of the tropical garden, the bedroom was comfortable and what you would expect by staying in a country manor house in the uk. The pool area was useful for a departing lunch pre flight. All in all good value for money with excellent service. My only gripe was the weather during our stay. March is a difficult month even in Madeira?
I think this is what hotels used to be like many years ago. Personal service, beautiful grounds, people who genuinely want you to enjoy your stay.
Although it dates back 40 or 50 years the main property is 200 years old and every corner is filled with beautiful Antiques.
The gardens of very well kept, the pool and Jim lovely and nothing is too much trouble.
Very unusual to find a place like this and we will come back
Opened before Madeira's mass-tourism boom of the past quarter-century, this is an establishment that feels more '50s than late-'80s (when it, in fact, opened)! On the plus side (and the pluses far outweigh the minuses), this means that the bedrooms, though perfectly comfortable, display an almost monastic restraint in their decoration; blissful to find beds not piled high with stupid cushions! There's also a feeling of quiet professionalism among the very friendly staff, many of whom give the impression of having been there for ever. And every meal comes complete with a flurry of tablecloths. On the flip side, some of the facilities can feel a little bit dated, and things which would (hopefully) come as standard nowadays, like access ramps for those with limited mobility, have not yet been invented here. The many repeat guests, however, attest to the appeal to those for whom tranquillity is more important than the latest bells and whistles.
Beautiful hotel set away from the centre of Funchal. Very pretty, well tended gardens, heated pool, great food and fabulous attentive staff.
Quaint hotel with traditional furnishings set in lovely grounds. Bit out of the way but transport is readily available.
The food was very good, hot, tasty and well presented.
What really made this hotel though were the staff, they are amazing! Very professional, polite and helpful but managing to blend in just the right level of friendliness to make you feel very comfortable and relaxed.
This was my first time to Madeira and I had sought out a more peaceful hotel away from the busy coastal stretch. I was not disappointed. I was delighted with the hotel, my spacious, quiet bedroom, the peace and quiet of the beautiful gardens and the stunning views.
The food was first class. I ate in each of the three eating venues and each offered something special. Breakfasts in particular provided an amazing choice of food.
Over and above all of this was the superb staff team. I was impressed by much but the courtesy and attention to detail by staff was just super impressive. In particular as a single woman travelling alone I felt that the staff showed particular care. It was clear that many guests were repeat visitors to the hotel. I would return in a shot. I had one of the best holiday retreats ever. Thank you so much to all the staff and management.
From the moment you enter the short driveway up to the 5 -star hotel reception at Quinta da Bela Vista you will enter a true feeling of tranquility, as total peace and quiet engulfs you. The hotel is nestled in an elegant 1844 Manor House and with only 84 rooms the ambience in all areas of the hotel is one of total calm and relaxation.
The hotel is located on the hillside approximately 2-3 km from the centre of Funchal but a free courtesy bus operates daily (Monday - Friday) to transport guests down into and back from the town centre.
The position of the hotel offers stunning views onto Funchal harbour. However, one should be mindful that as some of the connecting pathways in the hotel grounds are a little uneven in places those with significant mobility issues would need to be bear this in mind.
The grounds contain a variety of trees and shrubs from various locations throughout the world and I'm sure when all are in full leaf and bloom the gardens look exquisite.
All staff at the hotel work as a friendly and accommodating family unit and that is abundantly clear from the moment you arrive. Reception staff extend a genuine and caring greeting on your arrival and are available 24/7.
The hotel is adorned with beautiful antique items and is absolutely spotless in every area that you are able to visit. The bedrooms are large and spacious and contain everything one may need to enjoy refreshment in their room. The beds are of excellent quality as are the pillows and a good nights sleep is ensured.
The bathroom and shower area contain a separate toilet area too.
The choice of food is first class both in the restaurant areas and the pool side bar area which is open until midnight with food being available until 9.30pm.
The pool area is enclosed by trees and planted borders, albeit there is an open area that affords the view down onto Funchal harbour. The sun bed mats are of a good thick quality which makes sunbathing a pleasure. The sun beds are a good wooden quality and all are neatly positioned in permanent positions all round the pool area.
The small but modern gym adjacent to the pool area contains a variety of high quality equipment from mats and weights through to running machines. The gym area also contains a jacuzi and sauna that have to be booked at reception but once booked are reserved for your own personal use only.
There is also a full sized tennis court with all equipment available from reception.
Yoga classes are available as is a relaxing massage experience which is conducted in the privacy of your own room.
Your experience at the Quinta da Bela Vista will be unique. There is no live music in the evenings, other than a gentle piano accompaniment during your evening meal. There is no late noise as other guests fumble their way back to their rooms and there is no noise from ground staff starting ground care machinery early in the morning.
Everything the hotel has to offer is guest orientated to ensure you are able to completely relax and enjoy your visit to Madeira.
I would definitely recommend the Quinta da Bela Vista to you and would not hesitate to visit the hotel again.
Delightful hotel with a genteel atmosphere. Well kept gardens and a tennis court. Enjoyed the pool. Room cleaned on a daily basis. Excellent breakfast buffet but tea and coffee served to your table. We opted for half board which included a daily 4 course dinner. Food very well presented. Attracts ‘the Grey Pound’ and didn’t seem suitable for children. We hired a car for our week but many guests seemed happy with the hotel mini bus and booked tours.
This is truly a five-star hotel. The gardens are vast and lovely, the pool is large and warm and clean, the room was cleaned every day to a fine standard, and the food was delicious. The staff are friendly and very helpful with travel plans. On our anniversary, we were presented with a bottle of bubbly in our room - a pleasant surprise!
We have just returned from a week staying in this lovely hotel. Set in beautiful well kept gardens it is very quiet and relaxing. The hotel is about 2 or more miles from the centre of Funchal and we walked down many times into the town, however it is a steep climb back but taxis are numerous in the centre. The hotel does operate a free shuttle but not at weekends. The food was lovely and we mostly ate in the pool bar as it was less formal. Big shout out to Muhammed who was the best ever waiter.
Would recommend this hotel if you want peace and quiet, but not if you want to be in the middle of bars and shops.
The hotel is comfortable and full of traditional charm. The staff could not be more helpful; from the reception staff to the staff in restaurants, bars and the staff who look after the rooms, everyone seems invested in looking after you. There are lovely grounds which must be a full time project to maintain. We had a wonderful time thank you.
To offer feedback for improvement,my personal opinion would be that, the
patio slabs around the pool and pool bar area could do with upgrading over time and perhaps the bathrooms could benefit from being modernised; however, careful attention should be given to maintaining the traditional overall charm of this lovely hotel.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. The food is outstanding, the rooms are clean and very comfortable and all the staff are extremely efficient and friendly.
Although it’s a fair way out of Funchal town centre and harbour the hotel courtesy bus runs regularly throughout the day from Monday to Friday and the public transport system is very good and stops locally.
An oasis of calm inFunchal, staff are without exception friendly and helpful. Especial mention to eusebio and sonia in the restaurant and Mohammed in the Pool Bar.
Trainee Receptionist gave good advice - hope to stay there again.
don't bother hiring a car, local buses , Hotel's own shuttle and Uber services are good.
This is a gem of a hotel! Situated in a very quiet area of Funchal and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The service and food is excellent and the staff are friendly and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and will definitely stay again!
A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. Food and drink are to a very high standard. Courtesy bus to Funchal on weekdays.
A very traditional genteel hotel experience, catering to the older clientele, white table cloths, sparkling glassware and excellent staff all combine to offer the perfect winter getaway , the breakfast buffet is bountiful with all you would expect with pots of steaming tea and coffee always readily available. The four course table d’hote dinner was excellent, using varying local seafood , never repeating the main protein over seven days, fresh vegetables and delicious surprising desserts added to a very complete wine list made each nights dinner a pleasure.
The bedroom and bathroom were spotless, extremely comfortable with quiet air conditioning, plentiful toiletries and beautifully crisp linen on a really comfortable bed, an added benefit was the full length windows which opened fully so you can view the beautiful and extensive gardens, which are a pleasure to stroll around. The pool area is clean, permanently manned with polite attendants and offers superb views down to the sea in Funchal, it also has a discreet pool bar for a cool drink or light lunch .
I cannot finish without mentioning the staff at the hotel , everyone was extremely courteous and friendly, as well as being thoroughly professional, I cannot speak highly enough of them and they really made the holiday special.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want a truly relaxing break, the hotel is small and set in magnificent gardens away from any hustle and bustle But with local transport (which is excellent by the way ) on the doorstep.
Wonderful tranquil experience.service was exemplary, food was very good and so well served. Thanks to Magda and Sonia and all the staff .
Easy access into Funchal .
Simple rooms and decor but all you needed was right there.
Great views over the city.
A truly quiet oasis for those who like peace.not for the noisy crowds.
Overall this was an excellent venue overlooking the city of Funchal. The staff were professional and yet so friendly and helpful - a credit to the management. Our room was comfortable and had all that we required. We thoroughly enjoyed Madeira as a holiday venue and would not hesitate to recommend it. I would not hesitate to recommend Quinta da Bela Vista to anyone. The hotel was just perfect.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is so well managed with happy professional staff who did everything to make our stay comfortable. The food was delicious. We heartily recommend a stay here!
Had a wonderful week in this beautiful hotel but the outstanding feature has to be every one of its staff. They are exceptional, professional, courteous and nothing was any trouble to them. For me the staff turned a good holiday into an awesome one
