This is truly a five-star hotel. The gardens are vast and lovely, the pool is large and warm and clean, the room was cleaned every day to a fine standard, and the food was delicious. The staff are friendly and very helpful with travel plans. On our anniversary, we were presented with a bottle of bubbly in our room - a pleasant surprise!
We have just returned from a week staying in this lovely hotel. Set in beautiful well kept gardens it is very quiet and relaxing. The hotel is about 2 or more miles from the centre of Funchal and we walked down many times into the town, however it is a steep climb back but taxis are numerous in the centre. The hotel does operate a free shuttle but not at weekends. The food was lovely and we mostly ate in the pool bar as it was less formal. Big shout out to Muhammed who was the best ever waiter.
Would recommend this hotel if you want peace and quiet, but not if you want to be in the middle of bars and shops.
The hotel is comfortable and full of traditional charm. The staff could not be more helpful; from the reception staff to the staff in restaurants, bars and the staff who look after the rooms, everyone seems invested in looking after you. There are lovely grounds which must be a full time project to maintain. We had a wonderful time thank you.
To offer feedback for improvement,my personal opinion would be that, the
patio slabs around the pool and pool bar area could do with upgrading over time and perhaps the bathrooms could benefit from being modernised; however, careful attention should be given to maintaining the traditional overall charm of this lovely hotel.
I would definitely recommend this hotel. The food is outstanding, the rooms are clean and very comfortable and all the staff are extremely efficient and friendly.
Although it’s a fair way out of Funchal town centre and harbour the hotel courtesy bus runs regularly throughout the day from Monday to Friday and the public transport system is very good and stops locally.
An oasis of calm inFunchal, staff are without exception friendly and helpful. Especial mention to eusebio and sonia in the restaurant and Mohammed in the Pool Bar.
Trainee Receptionist gave good advice - hope to stay there again.
don't bother hiring a car, local buses , Hotel's own shuttle and Uber services are good.
This is a gem of a hotel! Situated in a very quiet area of Funchal and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The service and food is excellent and the staff are friendly and professional. We thoroughly enjoyed our week and will definitely stay again!
A beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. Food and drink are to a very high standard. Courtesy bus to Funchal on weekdays.
A very traditional genteel hotel experience, catering to the older clientele, white table cloths, sparkling glassware and excellent staff all combine to offer the perfect winter getaway , the breakfast buffet is bountiful with all you would expect with pots of steaming tea and coffee always readily available. The four course table d’hote dinner was excellent, using varying local seafood , never repeating the main protein over seven days, fresh vegetables and delicious surprising desserts added to a very complete wine list made each nights dinner a pleasure.
The bedroom and bathroom were spotless, extremely comfortable with quiet air conditioning, plentiful toiletries and beautifully crisp linen on a really comfortable bed, an added benefit was the full length windows which opened fully so you can view the beautiful and extensive gardens, which are a pleasure to stroll around. The pool area is clean, permanently manned with polite attendants and offers superb views down to the sea in Funchal, it also has a discreet pool bar for a cool drink or light lunch .
I cannot finish without mentioning the staff at the hotel , everyone was extremely courteous and friendly, as well as being thoroughly professional, I cannot speak highly enough of them and they really made the holiday special.
I would definitely recommend this hotel if you want a truly relaxing break, the hotel is small and set in magnificent gardens away from any hustle and bustle But with local transport (which is excellent by the way ) on the doorstep.
Wonderful tranquil experience.service was exemplary, food was very good and so well served. Thanks to Magda and Sonia and all the staff .
Easy access into Funchal .
Simple rooms and decor but all you needed was right there.
Great views over the city.
A truly quiet oasis for those who like peace.not for the noisy crowds.
Overall this was an excellent venue overlooking the city of Funchal. The staff were professional and yet so friendly and helpful - a credit to the management. Our room was comfortable and had all that we required. We thoroughly enjoyed Madeira as a holiday venue and would not hesitate to recommend it. I would not hesitate to recommend Quinta da Bela Vista to anyone. The hotel was just perfect.
We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. It is so well managed with happy professional staff who did everything to make our stay comfortable. The food was delicious. We heartily recommend a stay here!
Had a wonderful week in this beautiful hotel but the outstanding feature has to be every one of its staff. They are exceptional, professional, courteous and nothing was any trouble to them. For me the staff turned a good holiday into an awesome one
One of the best hotels we have stayed in.
From the moment we arrived at reception the staff were welcoming and friendly. Nothing too much trouble.
The room was lovely. High standards of cleanliness throughout. It had everything we could want. Looking out onto the green and beautiful gardens.
There are choices of restaurants. We ate in the Table d’hote restaurant which served the most exquisite food every night. The breakfasts were also amazing. Offering everything you could wish for.
Silver service was professional but not pretentious. A wonderful eating experience with great wines too!
Very many thanks for a wonderful holiday.
Our stay at Quinta da Bela Vista was outstanding! The staff were all exceptional, friendly, cheerful, thoughtful and went out of their way to help in every respect. The food was excellent, the gardens were beautifully maintained, the room was spacious and the pool was clean and warm enough to use in January.
We highly recommend this characterful hotel, filled with beautiful antiques, rugs and paintings. An absolute gem!
Great stay! You felt you were staying in a beautifully maintained National Trust property!
All the staff from housekeeping through front of house to the waiting team were delightful and couldn’t do enough for you. Really recommend the half board option as the 4 course evening meal was always a highlight, and very varied. Thank you chefs!
Grounds and pool were lovely, although sadly it looked like the very mature box hedges had succumbed to the dreaded box blight, so the front of the Quinta was not as impressive as it must have been in past years.
I can't recommend this Hotel enough.
It's a lovely mid 19th century manner house, set in a residential district, on a hill above Funchal, with lovely views over the city, best enjoyed at night .
It's quiet and away from all the hubbub of the city.
There is a courtesy bus in and out of town, last bus back at 6.15pm I think.
The rooms, are very comfortable, beds slightly firm, but not to hard, I found.
two comfortable easy chairs, a desk, TV, safe, and sufficient hanging space, and draws.
Everything about it is firstclass. ALL the staff are friendly, polite, helpful, and very professional.
We stayed 7/1/26 - 14/1/26, half board, with inspired luxury escapes, (another company I recommend very highly, great service) the food is excellent, great quality, buffet breakfast, you can request fried or poached eggs, or an omelette, cooked how you like them.
Dinner is a set four courses, soup, fish, meat, and desert, dinner starts at 7.30pm and it pays to be there about this time, then you get your meal nicely paced, if you get there at say 8pm, you might find you feel a bit rushed.
There is a lovely little pool café/restaurant, that serves drinks, snacks, and a full lunch/dinner menu, I think from 10am-10pm.
The crowning glory, has to be the Manner house restaurant, very smart, and excellent food, and the icing on the cake, is there lounge, very smart, very comfortable, with a dreamy log fire, worth going early, for pre dinner drinks, and/or lingering after dinner, to finish your drinks, or maybe a coffee
very good position, wonderful garden, very good breakfast with fresh and often regional products. All the staff was extremely kind and efficient. Ecerything was absolutely clean. You can use very fascinating common areas.
Yet, we would like not to find moquette in the room nowadays...maybe they are going to change this.
This was our third visit to the Quinta da Bela Vista, which should tell readers something! We love this hotel: the rooms are spacious and clean, the atmosphere is relaxed, quiet and peaceful, the food is excellent and the staff are wonderful. Every member of staff, the cleaning, pool, restaurant and reception staff are efficient, keen to help, professional and, above all, friendly. We feel very ‘at home’ here, which is why we’ve returned three times within the space of one year. We have spent two Christmases, one late spring and one New Year here and all have been exceptional experiences. The facilities (pool, gym and tennis court) are very good and the gardens are peaceful and filled with interesting plants. It’s a haven for gardeners. It may be a little distance from the centre of Funchal, for those who like to be in the middle of a city ‘buzz’, as it’s a 30-minute walk into the centre, but the courtesy bus takes you there in 5 minutes and, when it’s not running at weekends, the local bus is nearby, efficient and cheap. We went half-board and the 4-course table d’hote menu was excellent. There is a more relaxed pool bar/restaurant and an a la carte restaurant in the old manor house, which, like the main mansion house, has a lovely quiet library for guests to make use of. The whole atmosphere of this hotel is one of timeless elegance and relaxation and we would not hesitate to recommend it. After a busy day in Funchal centre or going on the many tours available to tourists, it is a haven of peace and quiet, where you will be guaranteed a warm welcome, good food and a peaceful night’s rest.
Fantastic and super friendly service from start to end of our holidays. Superb breakfast and very nice dinner in the Manor house. Food at the poolhouse very good with exceptional service. Traditional setting, clean and spacey rooms. Good location with shuttle service. No remarks whatsoever and can only recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Madeira.
If you wish a hotel enjoyably different stay here. The house is full of interesting antiques. Comfortable en-suite bedrooms with plentiful hot water and good housekeeping. Excellent evening meals both in taste and presentation. Breakfast with a fabulous choice but the hot dishes were lukewarm always and only cold plates provided
