Location of the hotel. Pleasant bar/lounge.
Bedroom was small and basic. Did book an "executive" room but because we had a dog, we were downsized to standard double.
Food was good
Room was fine
None
Nice setting
Bedroom lock was temporary with plywood over it and had a physical Key door sometimes difficult to lock. Staff explained it would be changed
Location, comfortable bed, size of room
The new breakfast format was better with the self-service breakfast as could have what you wanted at no extra cost.
My husband booked a Mother’s day Afternoon Tea here as a surprise and change and after looking at the good reviews and the menu but we left disappointed.
The bar and restaurant is light and bright with a nice atmosphere and views. However we were sat in a smaller room behind the main bar which although an clearly an old room and light it lacked atmosphere, had no view out at all and was extremely hot. We asked about turning down the heating and were told that it was hot but that nothing could be done. Our daughter had a headache due to the heat but even a change of table wasn’t offered. We had a late booking for five people and when we arrived there was only one other group in the room who were finishing, so the room was empty. The restaurant was also emptying but we were not allowed to move to it.
The waitress was very pleasant but seemed to be the only one dealing with the afternoon teas. We were not given a menu, which would have been nice. We were told after asking what teas there were, there was a very limited choice of teas available. The tea arrived in metal canteen tea pots, that you’d get in a supermarket cafe, I thought they’d have some nice tea pots, cups and crockery to make the experience a bit more special but that wasn’t the case
The afternoon tea itself looked decent. The sandwiches came on a variety of breads but lacked any filling and taste. In fact there was so little in them we were basically just eating bread with a scraping of tuna etc and there was no garnish. My husband noticed after looking at the menu on his phone the quiche’s were missing. He asked the waitress about it who then questioned him if there was quiche on the menu. She went off to the kitchen coming back with them and apologised. The kitchen had forgotten them. My mother in law then pointed out that they were cold and still frozen in the middle, the waitress apologised and took them back but didn’t bring them back again, nor did she offer anything else replace them, even when asked so we had one less item.
The cakes were edible but nothing special and lacking in taste. The lemon meringue tart had been replaced by a kind of soft mousse lemon cheesecake, which must have sat out too long as it had gone very soft. The scone was plain and a decent size but there was no alternative available. We were given a box after asking for the remaining scones and I asked for a tub for the cream, I was brought foil, yes foil, to put it in as there were no tubs.
Overall the experience was disappointing and I don’t think it was worth the cost, of £22.50 each for 5 afternoon teas. You can get better afternoon teas elsewhere and in a nicer setting for a similar price, where the sandwiches are full of fillings and come with a garnish, the cakes are homemade and tastier, you’re offered a choice of scones and a better selection of teas and soft drinks.
We have stayed at Mosborough Hall for 41 years and recently we have noted poor care.
Yet again cold water for making own coffee at breakfast and no orange juice as decanter empty.
Second morning at breakfast it had changed from cook to order to buffet.
I went to buffet and got a bit after lady said so ,only to see other guests received a cook to order poached egg ,which I would have had again.
We always stay there to see family and probably always will but small things have disappeared.
Love the staff but it just needs a gee up xx
Steeped in history this lovely hotel is a lovely place to stay
All good
Stayed for one night and really enjoyed our stay. We had an executive double room, the bed was extremely comfortable.
The room itself was very clean. Such a lovely touch to have received a birthday card and bottles of water. We were also given a complimentary drink of choice in the bar which was nice.
I do think it needs a refurb, granted it’s an old building but some areas look really in need of care, and there were many cobwebs on all the lights on the corridors.
We stayed in 2014 in a normal room and the John Darcy suite in 2015 and the hotel hasn’t changed at all.
Would stay again if in the area the staff are lovely.
I think it’s good value for money
The staff in the hotel could not have done more to help us, absolutely lovely. Preparing poached eggs for me even though I ordered them a little after 10am. Bar staff lovely too and offering recommendations when I didn't know what I wanted.
The only thing I'd like to have seen for such a big hotel was a gym, even a basic suite but just something to let people do a little bit of training.
Location
Friendly staff
Dated rooms
Expensive and very average food
Excellent friendly staff, nice room all amenities, Excellent restaurant and bar.Staff helpful and polite.
Comfortable bed nice staff. Modern bar area
Room a little small and furniture dated. The dark wood and purple wall made the room seem oppressive.
The staff are so friendly, the hotel is so quiet and the surroundings are beautiful, the food is delicious, breakfast and Sunday lunch were 10/10, we will definitely be back
The only thing that was a downside for us was the amount of stairs, there were 3 flights of stairs to our room and the wooden staircase is very steep and hurt my legs, a lift would be beneficial
Firstly we had to pre order food and there was nobody in the restaurant at all!!
The food that came was terrible!! From hardly any food on the plate to other meals being cold absolutely not worth the price!
The room was cold the beds are uncomfortable the room needs decorating and updating theres no need in 2026 to walk into a room stuck in the 90s! The radiators just ran with water all night but no heat! There's nothing best about any vest western hotel!!!
