While the location is excellent—a short 15-minute walk from the Bahnoff and perfectly situated in the old town—our stay was largely disappointing, especially considering the mandatory €5 resort tax per person per day. It's unclear what this significant fee covers, as the hotel is in sore need of comprehensive renovation.
The Positives:
Wonderful Staff: The hotel employees were truly lovely and accommodating.
Heated Floors: A welcome feature in our room.
Location: Excellent access to Lucerne's center.
Bedding: The two separate quilts were a practical setup for co-sleeping.
The Areas Needing Improvement:
Facilities: The hotel feels dated. The elevator is extremely small, accommodating maybe one or two people plus two cases, necessitating multiple slow trips up and down.
The Room: Our room had a noticeable musty, old smell. We observed many cracks in the floorboards and bathroom tiles, and the use of shower curtains felt very old-fashioned. The generic soap/shampoo dispenser had an unpleasant scent.
Amenities: Only paper cups were provided. The room had a coffee machine but no kettle, and only a single wine glass.
Pricing: Lucerne itself is prohibitively expensive. Staying three nights was our limit, as the overall cost is astronomical.
Overall: While the staff and location are great, the dated condition of the hotel does not justify the mandatory resort tax or the high room rate.
This location is in the heart of Old Town in front of a beautiful square and so much shopping and restaurants. The hotel is quiet and very clean.
This hotel is a nice distance from the train station, and close to all amenities. The rooms are small, but clean and functional. We misheard the staff that checked us in and thought we were told breakfast was included...but it was not and we ended up having to pay 90 francs when we checked out...good lawd....its not worth it! Also the building next to us and across from us was under construction but they started and ended work at decent times so that wasn't an issue.
Beautiful hotel! Close to shopping, restaurants and historic sights. We loved it!
Because there was no air conditioning, we had to open windows (it does cool off nicely at night) and leave drapes open. Room was facing the square and a huge construction project was going on next door. If we managed to fall asleep over the noise of the small room fan provided by the hotel, we were awakened in the very early morning by the incredible noise of hammering, trucks, cranes, delivery vehicles—you get the picture. This started at 6 am. Probably got a very light 6 hours of sleep in two nights. Room was huge, had an extra twin bed? Okay bathroom. Front desk staff efficient. Couldn’t wait to check out and get a good nights sleep anywhere else. PS: I always check for elevators and AC when I book hotels overseas. I like the small boutique hotels for their charm and character. I might have missed the lack of air but . . . This hotel also lacked charm and character. Ver, very disappointing.
Great location and easy to walk to from Luzern train station. Property needs to be renovated; the room showed a lot of wear and tear. Wasn't very clean either. Bathroom was fine and shower was decent for European standards. It was okay for the few days I was in Luzern but should I return I would not stay here again.
My family of seven and I stayed here two weeks ago. Overall, it was just OK. The location was fantastic and the rooms were clean, which we really appreciated. However, one of our rooms had a musty smell and the bathroom wasn’t great.
The biggest drawback was the lack of air conditioning. I know that’s common in Europe, but we happened to visit during a heatwave (85–90°F every day), and the rooms were unbearably hot. We asked about getting an extra fan but were told that only one fan per room was allowed, which made things pretty uncomfortable.
All in all, if you’re visiting outside of summer, this could be a decent choice. But during hot weather, I personally wouldn’t stay here again.
1. Hairs on the bathroom floor on arrival. Bathroom was brown/dirty as if not properly washed. Bathroom walls have evident red/brown marks.
2. The room only had one wine glass for two people and some paper cups (which leak). We asked the front desk for two glasses for normal drinks, the receptionist asked why. I replied we wanted some proper glasses to drink our drinks, not to share one wine glass. He said the wine glass is absolutely fine to drink from and implied it was an inconvenience to provide two drinking glasses.
Poor service overall. You can sense a rudeness/arrogance from this particular member of staff. Not clean. They live up to their 3 star and clearly have decided not to exceed expectations by any means nor do they care to provide good service since their location is good, which is a shame.
Breakfast was excellent. Staff was good.
The location was great and was within walking distance to almost all of our points of interests. The room was spacious and had pretty good amenities, but with only one fan (triple room), it became unbearable at times to sleep through the active heatwave. We tried asking the receptionist for an extra fan, but we were told that all were in use.
The beds were generally comfortable, and fortunately, the receptionist/housekeeping was able to rearrange our three beds to maximize the fan’s reach. The other receptionist also helped called us a taxi to the train station.
The wifi was unfortunately very unstable. There were hours where there was basically no wifi in our room. A lot of the TV channels were also not available.
I wish we were told in advance that a Lucerne Visitor Pass would be provided as part of our stay, since it would have affected how we purchased the Swiss Travel Pass. Had we known that the Lucerne Visitor Pass would have provided basically the same benefits, we would have purchased a different travel pass instead and saved more money.
The receptionist was very rude. The one room available at the time we arrived was tiny and extremely hot, not at all what the photos and description of the hotel showed on Hotels.com. The luggage storage room was unlocked and open to everyone. We left immediately after checking in and paying fees and breakfast for 3 nights as well as the original pre-payment for the 2 rooms for 3 nights of $1,908.62. We told the clerk that we wanted refunds but he didn't respond so we left. We still want a refund!!
Great Hotel! Close to everything including the train station.
Nice hotel and service. Great location
Neat, clean and centrally located
perfect location
Excellent
Excellent location, close to train station.
Property looks nicer online than in person. No air conditioning either which is rough when Switzerland is having a heat wave. Shower curtain kept falling off. Elevator is tiny. Wouldn’t stay here again. Surprised it has a 3 star rating honestly
Great location, convenient and quiet
My reservation was made 6 months in advance and held with a credit card. The card was approved at the time of booking. Two weeks before our trip, Visa issued me a new credit card number due to suspicious activity on my card (which happens frequently). On the day before my arrival, the hotel apparently tried running the old credit card number again, which was declined. At 8:06 AM on the day before my arrival, the hotel sent me ONE email giving me until 6:00pm (less than 10 hours) to provide a new card number. I did not see that one email because 1) I was already on vacation hiking in the mountains and 2) I didn’t have daily access to email to limit international data charges. The hotel did not call or text me to warn me that it would be canceling my reservation on the morning of arrival, nor did it even send a follow-up email. Luckily we found other accommodations nearby despite being peak summer tourism season.
