We had a fantastic stay, 😀
The Royal Clifton has real potential — the sea views are genuinely lovely and the location is hard to beat.
However, the interior is in serious need of refurbishment. Everything feels very dated, and there is a noticeable musty smell throughout, particularly from the carpets, which suggests they are well overdue for replacement. With some investment and modernisation, this could be a really special hotel. I hope the owners consider bringing it up to the standard the location deserves.

Location staff and breakfast
The bed was uncomfortable, and the shower didn't work on our last morning.
We have stayed a few times before and have seen over that time great efforts being made to update the hotel and these are clearly ongoing. From check in to leaving, the staff are aways very pleasant and helpful. The room was very clean, bed comfortable and the bathroom facilities very good. Breakfast choices are good and plentiful. We love the location, just across from the park, a short walk to the beach and shops just around the corner. Excellent parking is a bonus too. We will be staying again on our next visit to Southport. Thanks again.
Nothing not to like really.
The staff were on point!
I didn’t like the cold shower, no hot water!
The chap who checked us in was excellent

The location was perfect. The staff were cheerful and helpful. I had a problem with my key card and it was sorted very quickly
The windows in the room had a mesh on them so you couldn't see outside. The room was so dated. The internet didn't work properly. There is a sign to say they don't clean the room for you. If you want clean towels, tea, coffee or toilet roll, you have to get it yourself from reception. I know the room was cheap but I would have thought cleaning was part of the experience.
Basic, clean hotel. We had a large room, dated but comfortable. Great position and good value.
