The room I was in had two windows within the big pane that you could open. Great for some fresh air [I was there in the heatwave in May 2026]. The Hotel has been recently refurbished and so the bed, mattress, bathroom, curtains all fantastic. The location of the hotel is not far from the railway station and is close a particularly lovely historical area - well, it's in York, so that is a given. It is basically at the top of Micklegate, with all its history and eclectic independent shops. There is some parking space - do make sure you inform the Hotel at the time of booking if you wish to come by car. The breakfast room also has a bar open at night. It is very comfortable and it's a buffet style breakfast. Loads on offer, go as often as you like/can and there is a great range of food according to taste/diet. I like fried eggs: so I asked at the kitchen and they were brought to my table [otherwise scrambled eggs are available as part of the buffet]. The coffee - go as often as you like for refills - comes from a machine and is lovely [I am a great coffee drinker]. I spotted that it is Tchibo coffee [One of my favourites]. If you're sending postcards etc home, then there is a postbox and post office at the top of Micklegate within a few minutes walking distance. The No 4 bus takes you into the city centre if you prefer and stops by the Hotel, which is good for the way back, if you're tired and don't fancy walking any more after busy sightseeing or shopping. There are some nice restaurants nearby - that's York for you, anyway. The Everyman Cinema - also called the Odeon because it is a listed building - is just across the road and offers up to date films; and I discovered an excellent café/restaurant at the front on the right as you go in that offers nice reasonably priced food, if you are happy with burgers or pizzas. I had an appropriately named "Spielberger" [well, it is in a cinema].
I have awarded 10 out of 10 elsewhere, so I should have nothing to say here. I found the new decor a bit busy for my taste, but that would never stop me from going to stay again. Everything was beautifully clean and tidy.

We were lucky to get a secure parking space just after the check-in time opened and we were happy to pay the £15 a day parking fee.
Check-in was quick and welcoming and the first impressions of the hotel were great. We loved the quirky modern style. Room was a good size, well equipped and a lovely shower / toilet room.
Breakfast was well presented with everything you could need to set you up for a days exploring.
The hotel was perfectly placed for us to quickly walk into the city either directly or more leisurely along the walls.

No fridge in room. No rail for hand towel . Light over the bed against the wall shines onto the tv resulting in an orange glow in the middle of the picture . Lighting in room too dim .
