Yes its expensive, but you get more than you pay for. Not only are the facilities extensive and vaied (in temperature, so you can pick your preference), the staff professional and friendly, and the place immaculately clean, but there are loads of extra treats like brownies in the lounge, hot and cold facecloths at the pools, a help-yourself mask bar, and someone walking round with hot chocolate shots! The treatments were all excellent, and ran for the full time. Of course, the setting is amazing, and we were less bothered by the busy road in front than we expected - the design is really clever.
Another great visit to Low Wood Bay yesterday. Last min plans meant we were in the Lakes for a few days so we had to stop in at Low Wood while we’re here!
We booked the £175pp spa package - 50 min treatment and 3 hours thermal experience. Our massages were excellent - thank you Jess (and I think the other therapist was called Hannah!) - best we’ve had in ages. We booked the Berry and Birch head to toe massage; highly recommend.
The thermal experience is always a highlight for us when we’re visiting LWB. We booked in for 4pm after our massages and that was perfect as it gave us an hour or so of watching the sun go down over lake Windermere from the warmth of the heated infinity pool.
All the spa facilities are excellent - clean, well maintained, diverse range of options. Love the fellside sauna overlooking the lake and of course the infamous infinity pool. Also enjoyed the coconut scented hydro-sauna this time, a great place to chill and read with a cocktail.
All staff faultless as always - can’t do enough for you. Shoutout to the gentlemen on the gate who popped over for a chatty welcome and goodbye despite it being 0 degrees! Started and ended our visit on a lovely note.
Love staying at low wood. Everything is perfect. Spa is amazing, first time in Windamer club but will definately stay again.
Excellent experience - can’t fault anything. Staff, accommodation, spa and Blue Smoke Restaurant- amazing!
The spa was excellent. It was spotless. The service was excellent. Millie Hodgson was particularly welcoming and always smiling.
The afternoon tea (veg and non veg) were very tasty. Highly recommended. Could only be improved by being a little hotter.
We stayed over Christmas on a three day package which included meals and one spa thermal journey.
Our rooms were in the Winander Club which are modern and there was a mini bar fridge with complimentary snacks and non alcoholic drinks. We were gifted some lovely presents including We Love the Lakes box and ESPA bath product.
Whilst the breakfast was lovely prepared in the Winander Club (a big shout out to the lovely Mel), Christmas Day lunch in Blue Smoke was disappointing, the main course was served on cold plates and food was only lukewarm. We did raise with our server when he asked if everything was okay with our meal but given that we had already start to eat we had gone past waiting any longer. He said ‘let see what I can do’ - he did nothing and never came back.
The Christmas Day evening buffet was good but given that the majority of people were stuffed from their lunch….this buffet was a bit wasted on everyone.
We enjoyed the thermal spa session this was one of the highlights on Boxing Day however everything else was disappointing. We were told that there was a cocktail hour from 5pm, however when guests turn up in the lounge no one had a clue what was going on and in the end guests were informed that the cocktail hour was only 20% off drinks not a complementary ones. We were informed by other guests that last year drinks were complementary. The evening buffet was very poor given that there was no other meal included in the Christmas package. The evening was drawn out waiting for the entertainment to start. A number of guests had left by this point.
If you are going to charge guests £££££ we expect five star and sadly the food and some of the service at this hotel is certainly not.
We met with the Duty Manager, Sofia and she listened to our concerns and apologised that our stay did not meet our expectations. I’ve already received an email today and that our concerns have been raised with senior management.
An absolutely wonderful experience, staff went out of their way to make our stay with family as comfortable as possible. What a wonderful location as well.
Another fabulous Lowood Christmas - with excellent food and attentive staff where else would I want to be !
First experiences at the hotel - staff not very helpful or friendly, apparently we booked with afternoon tea, but nothing was said, and not sure if they can fit us in over next few days, no spa treatments free over our trip, and access to spa pool area only first thing in morning or late at night. No space in restaurants and have to try chatting to the manager to see if can eat, might be able to eat at bar or order room service. Rooms dated decor and noisy road. So not a great start. Might just go home and call this a misadventure!
Hotel was gorgeous on the refurbished side. In comparison our "cheap" room was somewhat lacking. The stairway had a really bad damp/mouldy smell. The divan base of the bed was dirty and there was hair on the floor and in the bath. The shower also leaked. The door to the room offered no soundproofing from other guests. The bed was comfortable though.
We were a bit disappointed with our room to be honest.
We’ve just stayed at low wood bay for a 2 night getaway, we also took our dog who is a part of our family and who we travel with a lot.
The room was standard but tired with no extra for the dog (bed, bowl etc) despite an extra charge per night for them.
Breakfast we were tucked away from the main restaurant in the dog friendly area which was a part from the restaurant and we had to constantly ask for coffee as the hotel wasn’t particularly proactive in staffing that area.
You can’t eat in any of the restaurants with the dog and even in the bar area you have to stick to the bar menu rather than have the full menu.
Overall, a disappointing stay as we felt the dog was tolerated rather than us being welcomed as a trio.
On a different note we ate at Rothay manor one night - if you travel with a pooch it’s well worth a visit. Probably the best service and food we’ve ever had in the lakes.
Been before. Shall return. Great location. Wonderful spa. Very dog friendly. Great food and cocktails. Friendly staff. Pampered. Truly relaxing.
If you’re staying at the hotel, you can only use the pool and spa facilities before 10:30 and between 17:30 and 20:00. That’s a game-changer if you want to relax in the spa on the day you check in and check out. Be very careful as to when you book the thermal journey as you may end up having very little time in the spa.
The spa facilities themselves are amazing, breakfast was fantastic and the room was fine though very small.
Such a shame they have this policy where hotel guests aren’t welcome in the spa during the day.
The setting for this spa is fantastic but the facilities really capitalise on this to give you amazing spa experience! Loved every minute of our trip and the staff went out of their way to help, the little touches such as the hot chocolate and tiffin treats were really kind! Thanks so much!!
This is my 4th time at Low wood bay- the whole experience is always perfect. The staff are really helpful and friendly, and the little finishing touches like hot chocolate or mini desserts served by the pool really make it special. The bar cocktails are always delicious (and strong) haha And the spa facilities are wonderful. The best spa I’ve visited by far.
Throughout our spa experience, staff provided us with complimentary drinks and small foods. With this, a hazelnut hot chocolate was brought over to each of us. Exactly what you want on a cold October day!☺️except I have a hazelnut allergy so I passed on that after explaining to the pool assistant. To my delight - completely unprovoked - that same man brought me a hazelnut free hot chocolate a few minutes later. The kindest, most thoughtful gesture. I felt so seen and so inclined to leave a happy review as I have never experience service like it! It really sold the spa trip for me❤️
The Spa is beautiful and great layout with many facilities, the staff were very attentive and helpful. However our package came with lunch, the service was slow and the staff did not know what coffees they served, so a bitter sweet experience.
The whole team were pleasant and helpful especially the Spa team who went over and beyond to help me find my hearing aids which I had in me robe pocket. Whichever member found them I send them my heartfelt thanks
Excellent place to relax and very friendly staff. The location is perfect for visiting the lakes with a touch of luxury. The amenities are excellent with the highly recommended Spa and two good restaurants. I can highly recommend the Blue Smoke. Staff are vey helpful and service is excellent. The staff are very knowledgable in the dishes they serve and willing to suggest things that will complement each other.
There are also some lovely walks around the hotel complex with stunning views over the lake and surrounding hills.
Visited this spa yesterday, 16th December, to speak to the spa or reception staff about purchasing a voucher for a Christmas gift for our daughter. Very disappointing experience, the two young female staff in reception could not be bothered to help us, or could explain what the spa treatments were or what they included and the price options for us to buy a voucher. Told us to go on line instead, no eye contact, it was like we’re an inconvenience to them, terrible front of house service for a premises as good as this is supposed to be. The guy working at the car park barrier was more polite. Awful.
