Fabulous place with lovely staff
This is a lovely hotel in a great location. Its only a few minutes from the motorway, and over the years we have dropped in many times for a lunch or a sandwich on our journey from Scotland to Cumbria, and also on the return drive. The food is excellent, and the staff are always very pleasant and helpful. However on our journey south on 15 July, when we popped in for a sandwich as we only had a limited amount of time, we were told that these are now off the menu, and only lunches (including some sandwiches with all the trimmings but twice the price) were available. The staff were apologetic, but it's not their fault. There is an unfortunate trend these days of hotels and even pubs removing snacks from their lunch menus, putting customers - some of them semi-regulars like us - in the embarrassing position of having to leave and go somewhere else, or stay and have a bigger meal than needed or intended. We decided to leave, and went across the road to the little Munchies Cafe, where we enjoyed our sandwiches before heading south. As Moffat House now only seem interested in revenue rather than customer satisfaction and choice, I'm afraid that we will go elsewhere in future. Poor show Moffat House.
Hotel and grounds were lovely. Person at reception on arrival was friendly and very helpful.
The bed was extremely hard so very uncomfortable. I like a firm bed but this was like sleeping on a table. There were only shutters on the windows that didn't meet in the middle so it let quite a bit of light through. The service in the restaurant in the evening and the morning was lacking. The barmaid also made a rude comment to my husband when he asked where the toilets were. Another member of staff apologised multiple times on her behalf but she didn't apologise herself.
Excellent hotel situated in Moffat town centre but you actually feel like your in the middle of the country. Didn't eat in the hotel so can't comment on the meals but breakfast was very good. Staff so friendly and helpful.
Excellent quality
Very good excellent choice and good quality served in pleasant dining room
Spacious room. Lovely decor and great breakfast.
No a/c or fans as it was extremely hot.
It’s alway a nice stay very comfortable
Sorry to say although the food is good, it’s tipping into silly money soup, steak and 1 beer & £50 plus, plus I have never had a one scallop starter ,
staff very helpful, beautiful interior, lovely lounge overlooking garden
not enough outside seating
Central location with good parking and quiet grounds to the rear of the property
Fans or A/C for the room would have been useful in the hot weather
Dinner was very good.
Service wasn't quite as good as I would have expected for a hotel of this sort.
Superb period look and feel, the room had a warmth and coziness. Well located. Staff were exceptional. Good food, well presented.
A lovely hotel situation in the heart of the town.
Very clean and staff are welcoming and friendly.
Breakfast was superb.
As it was heatwave we would have liked the offer of a fan provided in our room.
Great rooms with friendly obliging staff, wonderful gardens at the back. Well worth a day.
