Comfortable bed, warm room, friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere.
Was a bit worried from the outside but internally it looked much better. Excellent staff and good food. They say they are dog friendly which they are but at a price. We stayed 3 nights and were charged £15 per night per dog for our two dogs £90!!!
Satisfactory return visit
Terrible place i am afraid to say. Run down inside and out (only nice area is the bar) exterior almost looks derelict, rooms and other areas shabby dirty and altogether grim. Food expensive and average at best. Fire alarm went off twice late at night and early morning. Room leading to garden no key and lock open, window catches useless. Shower broken. Carpets filthy but luckily bedding clean although on lumpyist mattress I have ever slept on Breakfast average. Only plus was the lady on reception when we arrived, working on her own doing everything (Reception, Restaurant,Bar) she deserves to work in a much better place. This hotel has a grand name and maybe history but is no longer the case.
Lovely room and view of the gardens. The upstairs room occupant's movements sometimes disturbed the peace and quiet, but I guess that's a common problem. We didn't dine at the hotel as the serving times didn't suit us, but I have to say that the bar seemed to be somewhat "abandoned" later on in the evening. When I attempted to get a drink about 10pm I was basically told all the pumps were shut off. This is not what I would expect from a hotel of this size, and it was unfortunately a big mark-down for the place. Otherwise, we had a comfortable and enjoyable 3-night stay. The town of Cleator has absolutely NOTHING in it, but Cleator Moor, just up the road, offers a couple of shops and takeaways, but seemingly only one pub that was open. St Bees and Ennerdale Water are very close, but a car would appear to be essential while staying here. (There was a bus service, but I didn't see a single bus while we were there!)
I had an absolutely fantastic time at that hotel! It was a truly wonderful night.
Have been before; will come again. Staff helpful. Nice setting, convenient location for my purposes.
Nice hotel … needs a little bit of tlc, but very good value for money
It’s a very old building & the rooms don’t have basic appliances like refrigerator & microwave. Washrooms are too bad nothing works properly. The only thing is staff are really helpful.
This was an ideal stop er on the Coast to Coast path. Comfortable bed and food available, it’s all you need!
Very friendly and welcoming staff were the highlight. Very poor temperature control on the shower meant that even at the coldest setting it was too hot for comfort. The meal was acceptable, but not a strength. Tasty, but pork was tough. Generally, although very clean, the hotel looks tired.
Great Location with lots of country walks and not too far from the coast. Needs a lick of paint but overall great surroundings and Garden
Friendly staff. Large bedroom. Comfortable bed. Games available to play in the bar area
I guess you get what you pay for and in terms of value for money it was fine. The facilities are very 'tired' with many things due renovation or even a coat of paint. It was basically fine other than the shower that was very poor. Food was fine and the staff were generally very pleasant and helpful.
There is no wifi
Excellent all round . Good value lovely hall and wonderful staff and good food . Quiet night despite main road . Will be back
I booked an overnight room - previous occupant had been smoking and very strong odour - manager immediately moved me to another room - lovely comfortable bed & refreshing sleep.
Staff were very nice and situated with some nice walks close by. The hotel is an old building so was a bit creaky at night.
Good location, lovely dinner, spacious.
Friendly staff.
Sadly even more run down than our last visit. Mouldy bathroom. Dust everywhere. Ill-fitting bed linen. No remote for TV.
Shower was nice and hot and staff were supportive when we needed medical assistance.
