Pros:

Lovely grounds, staff we polite and friendly it was a nice room

Cons:

Long wait for good, but they seemed short staffed.
Its not that i didn't like it but thete is a fair amount of wear & tear to be dealt with but it didn't affect the stay at all.
Just so you are aware when you get there. Still a beautiful old hotel.

Ok, nice breakfast.
Pros:

Location was good, building is interesting.

Cons:

Bathroom could have done with an upgrade. Balcony door didn’t fully shut.

Warm and comfortable for the price paid
Pros:

Very comfortable room. Warm room overlooking the garden. Friendly staff. Decent cooked breakfast

Pros:

The staff were very accommodating. We arrived early and were soaked from doing the coast to coast walk . We were able to check in early and dry out our wet bones. The beds were comfy and ensuite satisfactory.

Pros:

The staff that I saw were very good and friendly. Mainly the one girl who was everywhere as in she checked me in took payment served me at the bar and was there at breakfast. A very hard-working, polite, and friendly person.

Cons:

The whole place looked a bit run down and in need of renovation inside and out. It was a shame because in the past it was obviously a very nice hotel. Also, it did look a bit understaffed. I also think pictures online are not quite up to date.

Brilliant stay!
Pros:

Comfy bed, bath, hot water, great views, lovely room, good food. What more can you ask for?

A hidden gem
Pros:

The staff were excellent. Nothing too much trouble. The grounds were brilliant for dogs and kids alike.

Cons:

There was an air of faded grandeur but I found it tended towards charming rather than anything else.

Enjoyable stay, would recommend
Pros:

Breakfast was good ample choice , and overall good value as half board

Cons:

The second evening meal, Chicken was off the menu.
The last evening meal, cream was off the menu.
And unable to produce a soft drink during the meal eg. Coke/ lemonade

Cons:

Older than expected. Crumbling down.. Bed was a bit lumpy. Even though it appeared not to have alot of guests we were put next to a room that was being renovated so had workers making noice next door. Thought the restaurant meals were a bit expensive.

Pros:

This is a formerly very grand residence now looking very tired. However, the staff were very friendly, helpful and things ran efficiently. We needed a place to stay for 1 night in Cleator and it suited our needs. It was not expensive and for the money I have no complaints.
