I know this is a Super 8 and I don’t come in with high expectations. I’m fine with outdated rooms, but I do expect a clean space.
Unfortunately, the room clearly hadn’t been cleaned properly. The floors weren’t swept or vacuumed, there was a previous guest’s shirt on the floor, dust on the phone and window ledges, bugs on the window sill, and the room smelled.
The bathroom floor had small black hairs, and the worst part was the nightstand, which had a questionable white/clear substance on it.
I’m giving two stars instead of one because housekeeping did come right away when we reported it and cleaned the room, which I appreciated. But basic cleanliness should be the starting point.
This hotel is in need of significant upgrades and maintenance. The room we stayed in had several issues that impacted our overall experience. The toilet seat was broken, and the sink vanity was damaged on both lower sides where towels are stored, which caused the towels to fall onto the floor. The doors throughout the room appeared quite worn, and the bathroom door showed signs of substantial water damage.
Additionally, the curtains were damaged at the top and had noticeable stains that appeared to
resemble blood or sauce. The beds were also very uncomfortable—extremely springy and firm—which made it difficult to get a good night’s rest.
We were also not informed that breakfast service ended at 9:00 a.m., which unfortunately resulted in us missing it.
Overall, we were disappointed with the condition of the room and felt it did not meet reasonable expectations for cleanliness and maintenance.
We booked this property as a youth hockey team after confirming specific details in advance.
Prior to reserving multiple rooms, our team coordinator contacted the hotel to confirm two items:
1. That the pool was operational.
2. That although no conference room was available, the team could use the breakfast area as a gathering space.
We were told yes to the pool and yes to using the breakfast area. Based on those representations, the team proceeded with booking multiple rooms.
ARRIVAL
At check-in, there was a significant backlog due to previously issued room keys being deactivated. Multiple guests were locked out of their rooms. While inconvenient, we initially viewed this as an operational issue.
We were then informed the pool was closed due to a chemical imbalance. This was the primary amenity for the children during a tournament weekend.
Additionally, one member of our group who had reserved a suite was assigned a standard room instead.
ROOM CONDITION
The room presented multiple maintenance and safety concerns, including:
• A television improperly connected with taped wiring
• Window blinds partially detached, so they wouldn't close properly
• An electrical outlet missing a cover plate, exposing wiring
• Loose cable conduit hanging across the room
• A bathroom door that detached from its hinges
• Uncleaned construction debris under the bathroom counter
Staff attended the room; however, the maintenance employee appeared unequipped to complete the repair. In order to restore basic functionality, I assisted in remounting the bathroom door.
These were not cosmetic deficiencies. They were basic maintenance and safety issues.
GATHERING SPACE ISSUE
Later that evening, the team attempted to use the breakfast area as discussed at booking. Access was refused.
When clarification was requested from the manager (Shubham Khaddi), the explanations changed.
He first stated that no such permission would have been given, despite the fact that this arrangement was confirmed prior to booking and relied upon when reserving multiple rooms.
He then stated that municipal licensing restrictions prevented the motel from “serving food.” When asked about the daily breakfast service, he stated that breakfast was “marketing.”
For clarity, we were not requesting food service from the hotel. We had ordered pizza from an external vendor and were simply seeking to eat it in the space previously identified as available.
The explanations provided were inconsistent and dismissive.
LOBBY CONDITIONS
The team ultimately gathered in the reception area. Both sets of automatic doors were malfunctioning, leaving the lobby exposed to outdoor temperatures. Guests were repeatedly instructed to leave the doors open despite the cold.
This review is not about luxury expectations. It concerns misrepresentation of amenities, room assignment discrepancies, basic safety deficiencies, and unprofessional management conduct.
I'll dismiss that the hotel was loud. There were several hockey teams there. The walls are paper thin, so you will hear everything from every connecting room. As for value, neighbouring hotels are similar in price, but offer a much more luxurious and spacious environment with actual amenities.
There were no redeeming aspects of this stay. Based on this experience, I would strongly advise others to consider alternative accommodations in the immediate area.
Our was great. The room was clean and the staff was helpful and friendly. The pool was also nice and warm. Great place for a family stay and it’s close to the 401.
The staff was polite and friendly, eager to help with needs promptly.
Added late check out and never received it. Got a call to check out in 20 mins or pay another day
Didnt drive
Elevator problems
They have a pool
Clean budget friendly hotel. The condition of the room was poor. Bathroom particularly is in need of some upkeep.
would certainly stay there again. Very friendly and polite staff.
Had a comfortable stay. Place is quiet and clean. Swimming pool and laundry facility is in full operation. Breakfast has good variety. I would definitely return.
You get what you pay for - that said, it met my expectations. Property was ok. Fine for an overnight or two. Bed was comfortable, staff was ok, breakfast was fine. Room had an overpowering smell of cleaners though so had to air it out long before bed.
Reception know me upon arrival. Easy check in. Room changed to a Queen on Main floor due to necessary repairs. A nice alternate comfortable room
The staff were very accommodating when we checked in. However, the entire second floor smelt like pot, including our room. Multiple staff members were on the floor (housekeeping for example) and no one seemed concerned. I didn't feel safe complaining about the smell due to the hotels location so I was disappointed that the staff just seemed to ignore what was clearly someone smoking pot in the hotel. Additionally the vanity light in my room was not working, the switch seemed to be broken (not just a dead light bulb) and 2 of the remote controls for the TV were not functioning. As I was leaving I expressed this to the staff and they were on a phone call and just shrugged it off. I wasn't complaining, just wanted them to be aware before they rebook that room. Not sure I would stay at this hotel again, even though it was cheaper than hotels in the area, I feel like I paid more than what I should have for a motel style stay. The pull out couch was stained, the toilet seat looked dirty but was actually damaged/burn marks? There was paint peeling from the walls, etc.
The breakfast offered was similar to most hotels but the layout of the breakfast bar made it difficult for people to get stuff as there was always a line at the waffle maker which blocked the entire counter area.
For the most part the facility was good⁹
Its what you'd expect from a family run super8.
This was a great spot! Clean, spacious room (we had a king suite) and almost next door to the Ajax Go station. Breakfast had lots of choices and staff was friendly.
