Room clean bathroom had a few issues which were sorted when complained and reception staff very understanding
This hotel caters to bus tours… it’s an older crowd and rooms a bit dated. We were put in the basement due to a large tour. Food and drinks were good but overall inside sleepy.
Lovely hotel for a relaxing break and lovely grounds to walk in. Only thing we could fault was the jacuzzi has been out of order for some time and was going to be fixed before our stay but wasn’t. Other than that I would definitely recommend it and go back ourselves
The Castle itself is beautiful and the restaurant and bar very nice. The room was fair. The water pressure in the shower was dismal and we we directly above the bar, so I could hear every word in the live music until around 12pm the last night we were there. The housekeeping did not leave us any washcloths or a bathmat the last day we were there and they never cleaned our coffee mugs at all. Although I was disappointed in the accommodations, the staff was very nice.
The staff were lovely, the room was great, the food was very good basic cooking and breakfast was excellent. The grounds were amazing. I would recommend avoiding the bar. The prices are robbery. 2 double malts £44 when I had seen the same bottle in the village at £40 - enough for 14 doubles.
Old style and character of the hotel
We were so excited to stay at this beautiful property. Friends back in Canada had recommended it, having gotten married here years ago, so we chose to end our two-week visit to Scotland at Atholl Palace. After traveling through the Highlands, we decided to splurge on something luxurious.
There’s no denying the positives: the grounds are stunning, the architecture is impressive, and there are plenty of amenities. Unfortunately, several negatives dampened our experience:
• Bathroom cleanliness: The rain showerhead in our room was clogged with black gunk. We could only use the handheld showerhead until I manually cleaned each nozzle.
• Hot tub unavailable: The hot tub was out of service with no notice at booking or at check-in. This was disappointing, especially as it’s one of my wife’s favorite amenities.
• Pathway safety at night: Walking back up the property after dark was inconsistent and at times unsafe. Some evenings the path lights were on, other nights they were off. Without lighting it was very hard to find our way back to the main building, and with cars coming and going it felt genuinely hazardous.
• Service issues: This was the biggest letdown. Everywhere else in Scotland, staff have been warm and helpful, but service here felt indifferent and unwelcoming.
For example, we booked the hotel’s afternoon tea well in advance. We arrived promptly at 12:30, but the doors were still closed. A staff member opened them without greeting us, and we had to awkwardly seat ou
It’s a grand property which was renovated 20 years ago and showing. The views are wonderful from the property and it’s convenient to Pitlochry. Unfortunately the breakfast and dinner are average and disappointing given the price.
Loved this place. It’s like staying on a 21st century titanic but with out the fuss of icebergs and sinking. The view from our room was amazing. The grounds were beautiful and the staff were fantastic. We loved the little museum a fascinating insight into the history of the hotel.
Special mention to the staff behind the Stags head bar (x2 Australian lasses and 1 super happy lass from a Balkan country ❤️
Very clean and well kept hotel and grounds. But staff in the main were not very pleasant didn't really speak unless they had to.
A beautiful hotel. The staff are friendly and excellent at customer service. The palace itself is very impressive and well appointed. However, the rooms themselves are a little dated, the beds are less comfortable, and the pillows are flat. However, I highly recommend for people visiting Pitlochry.
New activities such as Pickle Ball - convert one tennis court to several Pickle Ball courts? Information to pre-book theatre and knowledge of other local events - Monday evening highland pipers etc.
Room was clean but flies in bathroom in am that needed to be killed before cleaning. Food was at best satisfactory in veranda lounge. Good swimming pool and hot tub. Grounds are lovely. Check-in and out efficient and staff affable.
The property is located a 15-minute walk from the Pitlochry Station and is located on top of a hill. I would suggest taking a taxi if you have luggage.
The property itself is beautiful and clean. Our room was quiet even though it was located near to the pub.
We enjoyed walking the grounds as well. Lots of nice walking trails.
The location is walkable to town and to the Blair Distillery which made things easy.
Frankly the food was no better than average and not ****
Perfection.
Family Room -shabby and in need of decoration
Bathroom - not cleaned thoroughly. Mould in shower. Water in shower tepid to cold. Food - Distinctly average and overpriced. Some restaurant staff rude. Fantastic setting though.
Went for me and my fiancé 10 year anniversary. It was a beautiful place. So much to do on the hotel grounds
It’s unfortunate that the stay was such a disappointment. The restaurant staff was horribly rude & inconsiderate. The breakfast staff would interrupt conversations we were having within our group in order to “set the record straight” on what we were saying. I informed them the conversation wasn’t including them. The bread at dinner was moldy. Drink orders were incorrect & when we told the staff, they told us we were wrong & we’re confrontational. There was mold in the shower. The restaurant staff seemed to be short tempered with our entire party of 12. We will never return to this hotel again & spread the word on their rudeness.
Good atmosphere. Nice clean room. Great breakfast, lovely food.
