Not really a dislike but on first arriving did look a bit like Beirut or an immigrant hotel. That’s why you should never judge a book by its cover. Pleasantly surprised 👍

The pillow
I stayed at the Britannia Hotel Coventry on Friday 1st May, and honestly, calling it a “hotel” feels generous — it was more like a dive.
From the moment we arrived, things felt off. You have to ring a buzzer just to be let in, and the reception area felt more like a prison security desk than a welcoming hotel. There were security cameras everywhere and a guard standing by, which immediately made the atmosphere uncomfortable. The floors were sticky, and the whole place looked dated and unclean.
Check-in was frustrating. I was asked for ID, which I don’t usually carry, and there was no mention of this requirement in the booking confirmation. I had also paid for breakfast and asked in advance about an early option due to an event — this was refused without any effort to accommodate.
The lift had broken buttons, filthy carpets, and felt generally unhygienic. I was placed on the 7th floor, right at the far end by a fire door. As a woman travelling alone, while my family were on a different floor, I did not feel safe at all.
The corridor to the room smelled awful, and the room itself was no better — dated, dirty, and clearly not properly cleaned. The carpet was heavily stained and gave the whole space an unclean feel.
We had planned to meet in the bar, but a member of our group with a 10-year-old child was told they weren’t allowed in. Instead, they brought drinks back to my room and shared that their room smelled strongly of mould and was also in poor condition.
At that point, we decided enough was enough. Within 10 minutes of arriving in our rooms, we checked out and found another hotel. I genuinely did not feel safe staying here.
I would strongly advise others to avoid this place at all costs. I’m honestly surprised it’s even listed
