Incredible property, amazing staff, gorgeous views, great food, fast service, genuinely 10/10
Very good location, Rooms are ok, but not excellent. Seervice is so-so, concierges are absolutely helpless, the worst concierge service I ever met at 5-stars hotels, food is so-so… not a proper value of money paid
As long-time fans of the Mandarin Oriental portfolio (having loved our stays in Hong Kong and Miami), we were looking forward to our time in New York. I initially emailed customer service directly to share our experience, but after receiving no response, I am posting my feedback here. While our stay was acceptable, it unfortunately fell short of the personalized, high standards we usually experience with the brand.
I understand most New York Hotel prices have gone significantly up in recent years but for $1000usd per night I hope it’s still reasonable to have expectations for a 5 star stay…
The Good:
We were highly appreciative of an upgrade to a Central Park view room—the views were absolutely spectacular. The house car service was excellent, and a few specific staff members truly stood out. The pool attendants on June 1st were fantastic, making a genuine effort to connect with our kids, and our evening turndown housekeeper was meticulous.
The Disappointments:
1. The Room: The accommodations felt quite dated and in need of refreshment. There was also a noticeable lapse in housekeeping detail—a distinct footprint on the bathroom tile floor on our first night remained there for our entire stay (unclear if it was a permanent stain or skipped during cleaning).
2. Arrival & Service: Prior to arrival, we were asked for our children's names, but there was no welcome or acknowledgment of them at all. Furthermore, the front desk experience felt surprisingly transactional. Rather than making us feel welcomed as returning brand guests, there was a heavy, uncomfortable emphasis on trying to upsell us at check-in. (By contrast, a recent stay at The Peninsula nearby offered remarkably attentive service and a seamless experience).
It was a decent stay, but for a luxury brand of this caliber, we expected a lot more—both during our stay and from customer service afterward.
We choose Mandarin Oriental because of the bespoke luxury it represents. I share this feedback—and my disappointment regarding the lack of initial follow-up—in the hope that it helps fellow travels and management.
We stayed at the Mandarin Oriental New York in April for 5 days with our 8-year-old son and we had a very lovely stay. The room was spacious and offered a great view. The best part was the breakfast where we got to enjoy the most spectacular view of Central Park. The location is excellent, right by Central Park and close to the subway, making it very easy to explore the city. The service was also very good, although not quite comparable to the high standard we experienced at the property in Thailand…
After long and busy days in New York, the hotel was a wonderful place to relax and find some peace. The pool was a welcome change as well, even though the water was a bit too cold. Overall, everything was very beautiful and high-quality, but also quite expensive — $14 for an orange juice at breakfast is definitely a lot, although that may simply be normal for a hotel of this category in New York.
My week-long stay at the Mandarin Oriental, New York was nothing short of exceptional. I booked through Amex Travel, and from the moment I arrived until the day I checked out, I was treated with genuine warmth, kindness, and respect. Every member of the staff made me feel welcome, and the level of hospitality was evident in every interaction.
The hotel itself is stunning. The rooms are beautifully appointed, impeccably maintained, and provide a peaceful retreat in the middle of New York City. Every detail reflected the high standard of excellence the Mandarin Oriental is known for.
What truly made this stay unforgettable, however, were Miles Gomez and Marisol Martinez. They went above and beyond to make me feel cared for throughout my visit. Traveling solo can sometimes feel intimidating, but they consistently checked in, remembered me by name, made sure I felt safe, and genuinely cared about my experience. When I decided I wanted to extend my stay, they were incredibly accommodating and made the entire process seamless.
Their professionalism, attentiveness, and authentic kindness turned a wonderful hotel stay into a truly memorable experience. It's rare to encounter hospitality that feels so personal and sincere.
I left feeling refreshed, appreciated, and already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you to the entire team—and especially to Miles Gomez and Marisol Martinez—for making my stay so special. I cannot wait to return.
My daughter and I came here for the afternoon tea. The place looks a bit plain with simple decor. Had afternoon tea at the Barracat Hotel twice and it was gorgeous inside with beautiful crystal chandeliers so coming here was a bit disappointing . Christopher waited on us and was so helpful, personable, service with a smile and we enjoyed his background stories of the tea we selected for our drinks. He took the time to entertain us, shared his knowledge and made sure we were taken care of. The food was good. The sandwiches were delicious especially the scones. The desserts were good as well, but could’ve been better. Overall, it was good, but a bit pricey. We got seated with a view which added to our enjoyment. Seats by the window with a view costs more on weekends at $185 versus $135 on weekdays. Weekdays is quieter and less crowded.
Amazing staff, Michael at the front desk made us feel welcome during check in. A really spacious room with great view.

The mandarin oriental towers over Columbus circle with some of the best views from the lobby and most certainly from each room depending on location you might have views of Central Park, the Hudson and or all the amazing buildings that tower thru midtown manhattan I have been traveling to New York For many years but I have always lived my stays at the Mandarin Oriental it’s a luxury 5 star hotel with an amazing spa , a nice indoor pool and fitness center. The best part is the service and the personal attention they give each and every guest. One of most favorite Mandarin Oriental employees now works in this location his name is Sebastian and he is in management at the front office. He always takes care of my needs and makes sure I feel valued as a loyal guest of the MO. I highly recommend this location because downstairs is a great shopping mall the shops at Columbus Circle
Location was great
Little things like no garbage can in the room. No automated lighting system.
great location, great staff and lovely comfortable rooms
Only one restaurant option - surprised there isn’t a stunning Asian restaurant option in addition to the bar/cafe option
La amabilidad y atención de la gente que trabaja en el hotel
Las almohadas. Muy altas
Starting with the positives, the views from an elevated position overlooking Central Park were incredible. We were the only guests having afternoon tea in a nearly empty dining room so the atmosphere wasn’t great, although arguably this isn’t necessarily MO’s fault. Not had an A/T in NY previously so can only compare to places like London and Dubai. In that regard the experience overall was a little underwhelming and not in the same league. Didn’t feel a particularly special experience, unlike the best ATs, apart from the view and perhaps our expectations were a little high based on the very high price tag. The food itself was good overall and no real complaints other than the portions weren’t particularly generous. The views weren’t enough to rescue the experience sadly and in hindsight probably wish we’d tried elsewhere
