The Argonaut is in a great location and allowed us to easily reach friends in the Marina, restaurants in North Beach, and many other parts of the city. The staff were incredibly friendly and we found our room comfortable. The filtered water stations on each floor were great and the fitness center was small but adequate.
The reason I am deducting a star is as follows:
- Our room really needed a deep cleaning. There were marks all over doors/walls and there was mildew all over the grout in the bathroom and some brown drips coming from the ceiling. When I got in touch for help for a quick wipe down, they were very attentive.
-I know everyone is doing a resort fee now and the hotel was up front about it, but there’s not enough amenities at this hotel to justify it.
-There’s no coffee in the room. Given the aforementioned resort fee, I should not have to request a coffee maker (or slippers!). And the coffee that was brought was pretty sad. If you position yourself as a boutique hotel, you should just put nespressos in the room and call it a day.
Other than those items, we had a comfortable stay and the staff were really attentive.
Ideal place to stay to explore city, we stayed for convenience of going on a cruise, nice staff beautiful restored old building and large bedrooms
Booked via Virgin Holidays on a Bed & Breakfast basis.
The hotel is well located within Fisherman’s Wharf, is very quirky given its design and nautical theme, its very clean, well appointed and the staff were all very friendly.
The room is quite small but was fine for us with a large comfy bed.
Breakfast is a choice of continental or a variety of cooked options. Our deal offered the continental only which we found to be more than enough, was disappointing to learn that the specialty coffees were chargeable as filter coffee or tea were the only hot drink included.
We chose to eat in the hotel on one night, the food was good however the service was a little slow. The espresso martini was great!
Be aware that the hotel bar shuts relatively early which we found strange however there is a bar nearby called The Buena Vista which is open until late.
Really nice hotel designed in s historic red brick building! Loved the interior decorations! Everything was clean and up to date. The staff was very professional and friendly. One employee went out of his way to make us feel at home. His name was Enrique, very nice guy! We would definitely stay here again the next time we return!
There’s everything to love about Argonaut. Super friendly staff who go out of their way to help, clean and comfy rooms (great beds!), warm and classy atmosphere that manages to feel boutique despite being quite large, super location (so much food), and an excellent restaurant downstairs (Blue Mermaid). Loved every minute of our stay. My kids and I thank you, Argonaut!
We loved our stay at the beautiful Argonaut. The hotel was lovely and was a fun ambience for San Francisco. My kids thought it was very fancy! The location is spectacular - in walking distance from many of the amazing attractions San Francisco has to offer. And it is right near the water which was special. The rooms were clean and spacious. The service was very on point and everyone was quite friendly. Nils was especially helpful. Thanks for a great stay! We would happily return.
The location was great and centrally located in fisherman’s wharf. The rooms were very nice and clean. The atmosphere was very nautical oriented with upscale charm. The value was reasonable. Noise levels were low inside the room and hotel. There were fewer amenities than I’m accustomed to, but that seemed to be commonplace in SF. We dined at the blue mermaid for dinner; cocktails were good, entrees satisfying, and the “Indian Mango Cheesecake” Brian recommend was delicious. The service was outstanding, thank you to Matt, Ruben, and Carlos (I think) for making our stay very special and personable.
We stayed for 8 nights over New Year at the Argonaut and were really impressed with this hotel! From the friendly, helpful staff to the design and cleanliness of the hotel, we couldn’t have been happier with our stay! We stayed on the 4th floor with a room overlooking the Golden Gate Bridge, which was a stunning view! We had two big extremely comfortable beds and there was even a very lovely thoughtful gift of wine and chocolate left for my nye birthday! We took advantage of the continental breakfast vouchers on the Blue Mermaid each morning which was superb too. The position of the hotel is excellent within walking distance of so much. Overall, the hotel made our stay in San Francisco even better and we hope to return!
The Argonaut Hotel was the perfect hotel for a visit to the wharf/pier in San Francisco. The location was exactly where we wanted ..."in the heart of the San Francisco Pier area". The hotel is adorned in a nautical atmosphere, with nautical carpeting in the upstairs leading to our room , a ship model in the lobby with exposed brick throughout, a cosy warm fireplace and nautical museum next door !
The theme carries through to the bar/restaurant. The transition from the hotel to the next door bar is seamless with the same pleasant vibe that one receives in the hotel. The hotel and bar staff were very nice and friendly and offered tips on the area sights.
The bar/restaurant food and three chowders were unmatched in taste !!!
At the time of our travel to the hotel a discounted card was offered to us for the Italian restaurant across the street. That food as well was excellent !
I highly recommend this hotel and all its accoutrements.
We have stayed here many times. Ovation is great for walking, food and overall experience. Staff is friendly and helpful. We had an emergency on our last day and had to leave that day. The Manager extended us a credit for our next stay. Great place!
Each year when I come to San Francisco, I want to stay in the Argonaut Hotel : for the fantastic location, for the casual and chic atmosphere, I appreciate the cleanliness and the staff is helpful and welcoming.
See you soon again,
Great location, if you're looking to explore the Fisherman's Wharf area. Cable car turnaround, Ghirardelli Square, Lombard Street, and Pier 39 are all very walkable. The Maritime museum right next door is a fun visit to learn about the history of the area. Lots of eateries nearby, including fast food options like In-and-Out Burger and Taco Bell.
While the location was convenient and the nautical theme was unique, everything else about the hotel was subpar. The room was dated with dusty areas that didn't seem to have been cleaned well. The lower-floor room was gloomy with very little natural light from a small window that opened up to street noise. After some persistent requests to the front desk, they moved us up to a higher-floor room that had larger windows and better privacy.
The most disappointing part - they skipped housekeeping despite our request to have our room cleaned. Left our room in the morning with the housekeeping request indicator light on. Came back at night after a cold, rainy day in the city, looking forward to a warm, clean room. Instead, found that the room had not been made up. For a supposedly luxury hotel at that price point, inexcusable to skip something as basic as daily housekeeping. It was indicative in general of the poor service quality. A simple thing we noticed - hardly anyone in the hotel staff smiled. Everyone seemed rushed and overworked. Similar observation in the restaurant. The server got the order wrong and didn't bother to check in before coming in with the check. We were planning to have another meal there, but decided against it, given the service quality.
Hardly a luxury experience and poor value for money.
Shout out to Carlos at the front desk. He was fast, pleasant, and made an extra effort to go above and beyond. When we arrived hours early, Carlos confirmed one of our 3 rooms was available. Without a surplus, he let us check in the suite. This allowed us to go out and eat. For a family of a five, that was a godsend. He made sure my gregarious family were made welcome.
I would say the staff were amazing. The room was clean and housekeeping did a great job. My only think that I would improve would be providing tea and coffee throughout the day. Most hotels do offer that. We had no coffee pot or tea bags.
Fabulous hotel in great position, so close to fishermans wharf and perfect for the trams into town. food lovely and staff helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
We stayed a couple of nights at this property. As first timers to San Francisco, we chose to stay at the Wharf to be walking distance to everything. Loved the hotel, our spacious room, and the convenient location. We ate at the restaurant twice (breakfast and dinner), noting we also had a 20% off voucher that no one told us about,, and only valid if you charge to your room (which we did!). Restaurant was average, nothing to critique but not memorable in a city known for memorable meals. Hotel is large…and hallways unusually long-so ask for a room near elevators if you’re not looking to put in extra steps 😁 Reception team are very thoughtful, and provide free water for your day out. Don’t hesitate to stay here!
Love the room, hotel, Matt the porter/doorman. Beds were comfortable, room was spacey. Close by shopping and restaurants. Staff were helpful and friendly. Would totally stay there again.
Great experience. We had trouble with my reservation and the staff was responsive able to get the matter solved promptly. Great hospitality!
Lovely Hotel in great location, Matt the doorman was super helpful! Would recommend. All good, check in, house keeping.
A beautiful hotel with great amenities, clean, comfortable and lovely service, especially Nils and Enrique who went out of their way to make it a seamless experience. We did notice the WiFi was quite slow.
