Part 1 This place is a little slice of heaven. So much so that I couldn’t think of any other place I would rather be, on my hard earned vacation. The staff are real people with cool personalities that actually make your holiday.! Emerge yourself in a real Barbados experience and you will not be disappointed we are arriving for our second visit tomorrow and can’t wait to update our experience
This was our third stay at this hotel and we were really looking forward to it. However we were greeted with a miserable rude receptionist. We both smiled, said hello and introduced ourselves. Not even a hello just waved to sit down. Informed us that the room wasn't ready and to get yourself a drink at the bar. We went to the room and it was ready so we took the suitcases to the room. Not a good start to the holiday.
The majority of the staff are friendly however when certain rude, non hospitable staff are on duty there is a distinct unfriendly atmosphere. If I was managing them they would be put on non performance for their attitude. A clue for them is they work in hospitality therefore should be hospitable to their guests.
However Terry as ever is a fantastic barman, hospitable and great to chat to. Sadly it depends what side of the bed Trey got out of to the mood he will be in behind the bar. The bar stocks premium spirits and Terry makes fabulous cocktails.
Food wise OK but not enough vegetables with the main course at dinner. Plus the portion size has reduced compared to our last visit. Not good for a man with a healthy appetite. Looked forward to the buffet/bbq when there was plenty of salad and vegetables.
Rooms are spacious, plenty of storage space but a little dated. Extremely comfortable bed. Could do with better lighting and hot water was an issue. Cleaned daily.
The swimming pool requires work, mosaic tiles missing around the side of the pool.
Despite some of my negative comments regarding the staff I still like the hotel, its layout and size. It is well situated short walk to Pebbles beach, Carlisle Bay and about a 20 minute walk into Bridgetown.
A little gem near pebbles beach - 30 second walk and 5 mins from the garrison, 30 mins bridgetown. Only 24 rooms , which makes it have that homely feel. All the staff are fab and always helpful and happy.
Mix of buffet and menu nights for dinner with something for everyone.
Shout out to bar staff - Tre , Terry and especially Crystal ( pictured) who make you feel part of the family and this lady is a credit to your hotel - to take words from another Barbadian ( with a twist) she ' Shines bright like a 'Crystal'
Def recommend and will return 😜
We stayed for 10 nights and can only say good things about this lovely hotel. We booked in with ease and were offered a refreshing drink. We stayed in room 4 and although a little dark it had everything we needed. Air con was spot on and the huge bed was so comfortable. The shower room with toilet and sink had a large area to shower without banging elbows etc on the walls. There is a fridge, a kettle plenty of storage space and a safe inside the wardrobe which also held an iron and ironing board, spare pillows and blankets etc. The green monkey's which hang around the hotel are amazing to see, we frequently had them sitting just outside our room. The food is buffet style for breakfast with plenty of options. Bacon, scrambled eggs, beans etc. Fresh fruit, toast, granola and cereals. Yoghurt and pastries. You won't go hungry. Lunch and dinner is alternated between buffet and table service. The food is lovely and the staff are great. A special mention to Sharon who was amazing, she made us feel so welcome. Another special mention goes to Crystal, the world's happiest and best bartender. She made us smile daily and her cocktails were spot on. The pool area is nice, and the pool is cold but refreshing, much needed with that hot sun. The hotel is a 2 minute walk to pebbles beach, $15 us for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella for the day and the beach is lovely, much quieter than Carlisle bay as less tourists from the cruises. Highly recommend the cocktails in a coconut. Its about a 25 to 30 minute walk to Bridgetown or you can grab a ZR (crazy bus) for $3.50 bds each. Check out the Tiki Bar, they have a huge array of cocktails, turn right from the hotel and head towards Hastings. The boardwalk is a lovely way to walk along the beaches. All in all it's a fantastic place to stay and being small you get to chat to other guests which was lovely. I highly recommend a stay here, we will definitely be back.
We choose the island for a 2 night pre cruise stop. We got a great deal as we booked really early.
This hotel is in a good location walking distance to all the beach clubs on Carlisle bay and a 30 minute walk into Bridgetown. A very intimate and small hotel. Staff doing multiple jobs, you’ll know everyone in 2 days!
There is also a beach 2 mins walk around the corner but I would say not quite as nice as Carlisle bay.
The rooms are a little dated but the air con was good and the bed comfortable. Fridge, safe, fan, kettle are all present.
The pool area is not very inviting and we didn’t use it opting for the beach club 20 mins away.
The breakfast is buffet and lunch and evening meals are served to you which I liked although choice is minimal. I hate getting up and down for my meals!
Pretty area for your drinks before the meal.
Some staff are super friendly and helpful Angela on reception and Elsie made us laugh.
This is a low budget all inclusive hotel.
You pays your money and make your choice.
This is a 3/4 score for me.
We have just finished our 10 night stay at the island inn.
This holiday has been a dream for us and we have been so excited to come to beautiful Barbados.
The island inn did not disappoint. From the moment we arrived we received a lovely greeting from Crystal who also helped us with our suitcases to our room.
Our room was beautiful with a comfortable huge bed and lovely bathroom with a shower. There is plenty of storage space for clothes. We had room number 19 which overlooked the pool and had a lovely patio area at the front.
The food here was the best food we have had while being on holiday. I couldn't fault it and will miss it very much.
There is a mixture of buffet meals and a la carte meals with plenty of choice supplied for both. Plenty of vegetarian options also.
The dining area at the island inn is beautiful and always impeccably clean.
The staff here have been lovely with particular mention of Sherry-Ann and Sharon. These two ladies are so welcoming and smiley and we were always pleased to see them. Sherry-Ann was very helpful in suggesting the best places to visit on the island. They are both amazing at their jobs and I feel a real asset to the island inn.
The hotel is about a minutes walk from pebbles Beach and about a 5 minute walk to Carlisle bay. Both beautiful beaches. Both of these beaches have places to eat, drink and also have restrooms.
Also within 20 minutes walking distance from the island inn is the garrison, George Washington house, Barbados museum. About a half hour walk will take you to bridgetown. There are plenty of public transport options available also.
I don't have a single negative thing to say about our stay at the island inn. We have had the best time and this hotel really is amazing value for money. We will definitely be returning in the future.
Thank you island inn for ensuring we had the best time at your hotel.
Well …. What a lovely little gem! With only few rooms everyone gets to know each other, and we made friends for life! 🥰 The food is outstanding and Sherry-Ann our regular waitress couldn’t do enough for us ❤️ always ensuring the rum and raisin ice cream was on the menu! 🤣 The hotel is generally quiet which was lovely and the evening entertainment was on only a few times during our stay, but was quality! The staff in this hotel were all lovely, however the bar staff were missing on a few occasions 🤣 the mosquitoes however were not ! OMG we were eaten alive 🤣 our room was comfortable and kept clean daily, we were by the pool and felt like we had a private pool most of the time, we were also only a couple of minutes from the beach 😊 All in all a lovely trip and would definitely recommend this place and the island, although would have to sort the mosquitoes! 🤣 xx
My wife and I travelled with friends, who were celebrating their golden wedding, as were we. We all loved the Island Inn. The small and intimate feel certainly helped make the holiday and you were never short of interesting people to chat to. We found the staff were friendly and attentive - and some were very much part of the fun (special mention for Terry and Elsie). I could quibble about small things but, when I say that the top two are the red wine being served warm and the dress code being a myth, you should realise that I really have nothing to complain about.
We found the food good, although some nights were better than others. The room sizes are generous (although an extra light wouldn't go amiss).
It's well worth a visit to the sister hotels at the Sands and Mango Bay but Pebbles Beach is probably better than either. There aren't actually many pebbles there and, if you are a snorkeller, you can see almost as many fish under the pier as you can at the Marine Nature Park.
1st time at the island inn arrived 5th Oct for 14 nites. I could not fault it in any way, booked to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.Stayed in pool side sweet.very spacious king size bed, very clean.staff were amazing. bar staff very friendly. food very good and well presented.manageress always available very helpful. As this is a small hotel with 50 max guests get to know everyone, meet some great people. If you want a nice relaxed chilled out hotel with great staff food ect book here
Gluten-free, coeliac, food intolerances happily catered for.
Our second visit here. Lovely easy, small but friendly 24 room hotel in the Savannah garrison’s old rum store - loads of character. All on the ground floor, and felt very safe wandering off to Pebble Beach 100m away for sunsets.
Of our party of 7, 4 had serious foodie ‘issues’. Island Inn kitchen and dining staff were brilliant - attentive, great memories for individuals’ restrictions, patient when they (or we) got it wrong. And caring - “not on my watch” when I asked for something that might be cross-contaminated. Exactly the sort of attitude that’s needed.
Will happily return.
Island Inn accommodation 5/5. Ground areas 2/5 it is not ideal for unstable walkers or disability people.
Food 4.5/5
Bar 4/5 service was slow at times. Ambience 5/5 professional staff 5/5 surrounding area 4/5.
At pebbles beach the Men bathe the horses for tourists with entertainment. The waves of the sea are rough, with the beach stones sharp.
Reccomend Take First aid box.
The number 11 bus are cheap to jump on to Bridgetown etc there are many places of Interest. Wild Monkeys roam free around the area. They love the bananas.
It was expensive in Barbados in all areas.
Take Mosquito cream for bites. Wear long trousers at nights.
Small pool available?
This was a super place.
This is our second stay in this hotel. Small (25 rooms) so easy to meet a lot of nice people due to its size. It does need a few upgrades and a bit of paint.
We did notice that the food was not as good as last years menu but still very much edible.
You will always find fault in every hotel you stay in with one thing or another. If you looking for a party time every night this spot not for you. If you looking for a sit back relax have a few drinks and nice conversation, this is the spot.
The only real fault that i found was that some of the staff are very very sour looking. One bartender never smiles and every time you order a drink it is like it is an effort for him. The other bar tender acts like the job is below himself and needs to grow up a bit. Grabbed a drink from my wife because he got it wrong and spilled it over her. Never said sorry and just marched off. The other, Terry, always smiling and so so pleasant cant ask for any better. Some of the servers, here again, it is like an effort for them to do anything for you.
I really hope management reads this and has a talk to some of these employees because it does bring down the atmosphere of the hotel. And they don't realize, it cuts into their tips.
Short walk to the beach which I find no problem at all. Be prepared to pay for your chairs and umbrella. Tell the venders you staying at the Island Inn. We paid $15.00 US per day. All change they give you back in local money.
Would I go back.... YES
The air conditioning was excellent in room 22. Bathtub shower didn’t work and was not fixed while we were there. We did have a walk in rain shower however we would have preferred the handheld tub shower! Room was spacious and bed was firm but comfy! Meals were good, buffets were somewhat predictable and got a bit boring as the week went on I did discover that you could order a few things from the kitchen like eggs cooked your way or French fries at lunch etc. The menu meals were very good with a variety of options. The dining staff were lovely and the other guest were friendly and the atmosphere was very intimate ( you quickly got to know everyone). I only have one area that I was somewhat disappointed with and that was our service at the bar we were often overlooked while others were served before us and often we had to go looking for the bartender. Overall our experience was very good and we would recommend this location to anyone looking for a quiet relaxing time away!
Lovely small hotel with spacious rooms and wonderful staff. It’s way better than some higher rated hotels we’ve stayed in. The food is excellent and mainly served to the tables. The wine and other drinks are all good quality. A lot of our fellow guests were visiting for the second and third time.
It’s a 2 minute walk to Pebbles beach where the race horses are taken to swim every morning. They walk past the entrance to The Island Inn.
Everyone was very friendly, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there and would be happy to return.
This hotel was an excellent choice for me. The staff and other guests were extremely welcoming and friendly, making me feel like part of a family. I highly recommend staying here. From the bartender to the room service staff members were a pleasure to be around
Great location and wonderful staff, this little hotel was amazing, we really enjoyed our time here the staff are what makes it special
We enjoyed our stay very much, we had a garden view room (1) which was spacious and very quiet, with the occasional visit from the monkeys in a morning. Room was kept clean and tidy with fresh towels daily. Food we found to be excellent, with a muxture of buffet and a la carte at lunch and dinner, best rum and raisin ice cream ever, and marmalade I would have happily paid for to bring home. As mentioned on most reviews, the hotel is small and very qaint, which makes for a friendly atmosphere between guests and staff alike, check out Elsie's dance movies! The Manager was often present and always polite, she joined us in a dance one evening. The only slight disappontment we found was the lack of entertainment, singer twice a week and a DJ once a week, that said, it is a quiet hotel, peaceful hotel after all. Pebbles beach 2 minutes walk away, and stunning Carlyle bay a 10 minute walk. We celebrated our Ruby Wedding during the stay, and staff went above and beyond to make it special, room was decorated with banners and balloons, also flowers and champagne in the room was a lovely touch. Will return.
First time in Barbados for my wife and I. Having read the majority of the reviews we understood that the Island Inn is a bit like marmite - love it or hate it. Well we didn’t love it (we really didn’t love it) but we also didn’t hate it. As previously described by others the place is small and comfortable. We didn’t have any hot water for two days so we didn’t get off to the best start. What makes this hotel good is the people that stay there, not the place itself and certainly not the staff. It’s so small that within two days of getting there you know most guests by name so will always be in company at the bar or chatting with different people in the evenings. The vast majority of people staying there when we were there were British. The food is way below par and the portion sizes aren't enough to satisfy grown adults. Only decent meal is breakfast which is buffet style and didn’t really change for the ten days we were there. They also don’t mention that you can get your eggs cooked in different ways. You only find out when you see the person next to you eating an egg cooked other than scrambled. What we found most disappointing is the miserableness of the staff. Most of them are surly and if you can get a smile you are lucky. If you can find the barman (not Terry, who knew his job and was very pleasant) when you want a drink you’ve had a result. When you do find him and ask for a drink he acts like a petulant schoolchild, throwing things around and mumbling to himself with the odd obscenity thrown in especially at night. When I spoke to the receptionist about his behaviour she told me it was because of his condition! He clearly thinks the job of a barman is below him. Others really rate this place but we certainly won’t be going back. Lets face it this is one of the, if not the cheapest all inclusive hotels on the island. Now you know why. Pay a bit more and go somewhere nicer. PS….. you can use the facilities of a sister hotel, The Sands, via reception. When we found this out we went there every day. The staff smiled, were polite and the place had a happy vibe. The food was good and plenty of choice. Best meals we had all week were at the Sands. Island Inn gets better reviews but take my word for it it The Sands is a much better choice and only slightly more expensive. Perhaps that’s why we met a lot of Island Inn guests at The Sands.
Island inn Hotel Barbados
The Island Inn Hotel is small and charming, but with no real Curb appeal. But once you get inside it all changes, the place is full of charm and character including the staff from
Manager all the way through to the night security. It used to be the Garrison Rum Store, with only 24 rooms; the hotel offers a wonderfully sociable atmosphere. If you're the kind of person who enjoys meeting fellow travellers, you’ll likely know most of the guests by day two. It’s not a party scene, but it’s a lovely place to unwind and enjoy good company in the shared spaces, the pool, while small, is perfectly suited to the intimate size of the hotel, and the hotel itself is more for adults than families
The rooms are clean, and everything is well looked after, but looking a bit tired in places, and could do with an independent big brighter light in the middle of the room for when you are getting dressed, there is a drying rack outside your room, and you get used to the tree frog chorus of a night, and the early morning wakeup call as the monkeys run across the roofs. All rooms have irons and ironing boards, TV, kettle, hair dryer, safe and a big can of bug spray, which we didn’t use, but other people did. The air con in the rooms is excellent.
The all-inclusive is a bit different from larger resorts it’s menu-based and served to your table, which makes meals feel more personal and relaxed. Breakfast and other odd times like BBQ evenings are buffet. The food was consistently good, and we never went hungry. The eating area could do with better ventilation, Fans in the covered areas and something to create an air flow on the corridor eating area, as there seems to be no air flow to keep the temperature down as the heat builds up.
Watch out for the monkeys! There were lots of them at the resort, watching you at Breakfast; they snatch those bananas off the table like no tomorrow. The Green monkeys hang out at the closed brown sugar restaurant next door to the hotel. They are friendly as long as you don’t tease then with food if you decide to feed them, but the hotel would prefer you not to.
There is entertainment a few nights a week, a couple of singers and a DJ. There is a lovely atmosphere in the evenings. Because it’s a small hotel, you naturally end up chatting with other guests, and that’s part of the magic. It creates a friendly, family-like feel. The Managers Rum tasting and cocktail party is a lovely friendly event
For the readers there is a very large second hand book 'library' should you run out of your own reading material in reception.
The location of the hotel was great for Pebbles Beach, just a 2 minute walk, Pebbles beach is where they bring the horses from the racing stables to bathe at 6:00 a.m. walking then past the Hotel to the beach and then back home to the stables.
Carlisle Bay beach was a 5/10 minute walk away. We found it was only 20 minutes’ walk along Carlisle Bay beach into Bridgetown
Everyone was so friendly including the locals who helped put you at ease and feel welcome. It is easy to catch a bus of different types to many places on the island. George Washington’s house, museum, the Garrison and horse racing course are nearby.
If you are going out for the day or to the beach request a packed lunch the day before freshly made sandwiches, pastries, fresh fruit and beers. All packed in ice in a cool bag. Check out when cruise ships are in when planning your trips.
You can go to both sister hotels Mango Bay and The Sands Hotels, and used their facilities for the day, which always make for a nice change of scenery. Enquire at reception.
If you come back to the hotel after a certain time at night, the doors are locked, and you need to buzz to get inside.
This was our first stay at Island Inn Hotel and certainly won't be our last; we loved every minute and will definitely be back again.
We’ve just returned from our second stay at Island Inn Barbados, and once again, it was absolutely brilliant. From the moment we arrived, it felt like coming home. Many of the same staff were still there, and their customer service is just outstanding—so warm, welcoming, and genuinely caring.
The hotel is small and charming, which is exactly what we love. The rooms are spotlessly clean, and everything is well looked after. It’s not flashy, but it’s comfortable, relaxed, and has a lovely laid-back vibe.
The all-inclusive setup is a bit different from the big resorts—it’s menu-based and served to your table, which makes meals feel more personal and relaxed. There are occasional buffet nights and BBQ evenings, which are great fun and a nice change of pace. The food was consistently good, and we never went hungry!
Entertainment was also a highlight—great singers and a lovely atmosphere in the evenings. Because it’s a small hotel, you naturally end up chatting with other guests, and that’s part of the magic. It creates a friendly, family-like feel that’s hard to find elsewhere.
We loved every minute and will definitely be back again. If you’re looking for a peaceful, welcoming place with great service and a personal touch, Island Inn is a gem.
