This lodge affords beautiful vistas and reasonably appointed rooms. Park service is friendly and helpful. The dining is not gourmet, but it is very good. Have returned many times and will do so again.
A comfortable lodge with several types of room and cabin options on mile 51 of the Skyline Drive. The dining room has great views and there is an information center close by.
Big meadows Lodge was great. Very clean and all of the staff members were friendly and helpful. If it weren’t for the drive up the mountain, I’d go again!😳😂
Stayed at the Lodge in a King Suite with woodburning fireplace. It was very nice and comfortable and would definitely stay there again.
We chose Big Meadows Lodge because we had stayed there many years ago and because we happened to be there for dinner and decided to stay the night since they had availability. We had not had opportunity to check out ratings on Trip Advisor. First of all, I would suggest that you ask to see the room before paying for it. The reason I gave this room (Room # 23) only a poor rating is because, unfortunately this room just doesn't even come up to an average room. (I'm comparing this to the many places we have stayed.) The bed was very comfortable but the room and bathroom had probably not been updated since the lodge was built. It was fairly clean, as clean as you can get something that old. We didn't even use the shower, but it was dripping all the time. The toilet roll holder came off as soon as I used it. Yes, the lodge is in a beautiful area and we enjoyed the delicious dinner in the dining hall, and the beautiful out doors and even spent all evening in the beautiful rustic lodge with the beautiful fireplace. Rustic is nice but this room was way beyond rustic. This room was in the main lodge and seemed to be kind of all by itself in an area where the workers seemed to be, as most of the doors indicated. Just to look at us, we are obviously seniors, and this room went though several sets of narrow steps and hallways. The lady at the desk did not even ask us if we were ok with steps. With all that being said, paying $200 for this room was not worth it. When we returned our keys, the lady at the desk was not very friendly. Maybe she knew that Room 23 usually gets complaints.
Quiet lodging surrounded by nature. Great food (blackberry ice cream pie!) and helpful staff. Amazing night skies at the Big Meadow!
We had a great experience at Big Meadows Lodge. Located right in the middle of Skyline Drive, so close to hiking, the only gas station, and a great meadow for stargazing.
We loved our room, which had a fireplace. The food in the dining room was great and we also enjoyed the Tap Room, and hike on the property to watch the sunset.
The staff was excellent - very friendly and professional. Great experience all around.
The cabins at Big Meadows Lodge are quaint and situated next to a short walk to some beautiful scenery. However, we could NOT get the heat in our cabin to work well, so we spent much of the night freezing. Also, we were unable to access any Wi-Fi in the cabin during our visit.
Great getaway from the hustle and bustle of DC. Loved the trails, and the views were breathtaking. Very comfortable rooms, but don't expect internet anywhere but in the lodge. This encouraged us to put our phones away and explore more.
I stayed at Big Meadows Lodge for two nights as part of a solo East Coast road trip. My accommodations were very comfortable and I had both dinner and breakfast in the dining room. The food was excellent and the service was fantastic. The entire staff was very welcoming and helpful. I would definitely stay at Big Meadows again in the future.
Right in the middle of the park.
Wonderful location.
Rooms perfect - particularly as there is no TV.
Great location for many hikes! The property was built I think about 60years ago, but for hiking and camping resort, it is great!
Room was great, staff was excellent, food good to very good, though a little slow. Accommodations were pricey, but they are the only game in town, so to speak.
Cute cabin. Very overpriced.
Absolutely one of the best meals ever. I am an avid cook and must commend the chef for the perfectly cooked trout, fluffy quinoa, FRESH steamed spinach appreciated and green been cooked to perfection, as well as the delicious lemon/butter sauce. Delicious!!!!
Loved staying at Big Meadow Lodge. I was not sure what to expect based on reading some of the feedback, but this place was pretty fantastic. We stayed in a preferred room and it was perfectly clean, the view was spectacular and the big Meadow area in general is just so serene and peaceful. We saw plenty of deer grazing the area and were able to watch the beautiful sunset from our private balcony. The area around the lodge is dimly lit in the evenings, giving it a calm atmosphere and you are able to walk down to the dining room or tap room to get something to eat. It is just a lovely stroll. We visited on a weekday so it was extremely quiet and laid-back, which may have led to the peaceful atmosphere. Friendly staff all around as well. Highly, highly recommend!
Fun place to stay. Beautiful scenery.
We liked the clean air and outdoorsy feel.
Wish we could have stayed longer!
It is rustic but so perfect for the area. Good food in the dinning room, clean room, beds were good. Just a sweet place to step back in time and slow down. Look forward to visiting again!
