Old and tired.
Place was scruffed up. Just like a related motel
I enjoyed the history of the hotel
The hotel was very nice overall. I would go back for the location and that traditional California feel. Maybe a little overpriced for the age and condition of the property, but that is LA. It would be hard to find a better location / property / service / parking ($45 USD at time of writing this). Being across from the Grove is a real bonus. The reception staff are lovely, they gave me a room upgrade just because and I didn't ask. Rooms have a fridge as well.
The onsite restaurant and bar also a bonus as it's not that hotel vibe, more a place you would go to for the evening.
Price if you don't use booking.com as it's pretty expensive. But you can find sales / room discounts.
location excellent.restaurant very good, we come every year and we feel it like family, the staff very professional and kind.
It could be cheaper for what it offers, the pillows could be more comfy.
This hotel is a hidden gem! It is conveniently located across from the grove and is a quick ride to many LA attractions. The hotel is clean and trendy. The bartenders were exceptional. We would only stay at this hotel in LA.
Short Stories Hotel is located in close proximity to: The Grove, Farmer’s Market (including Dupar’s), Academy Museum and Peterson Car Museum, plus tons of restaurants. The staff of Short Stories is Exceptional! They went above and beyond to make sure our stay was wonderful! The rooms are comfortable with tables and chairs right outside our room. I left clothes and the front desk staff even sent them to me! An espresso machine was provided per my request and the bar staff each day provided a little milk (small cost) for my cappuccino. This is our second time and we will be back for our third time.
The location is great! It's right opposite the Farmer's market and the Grove.
The female receptionists in the morning aren't very welcoming - 'mind your business' type - they were constantly browsing on their cellphones infront the customers. Having said that, the male receptionist at night was very welcoming.
They charge 100 usd desposit for each night, so for 4 nights we had to pay 400 usd deposit, which is unheard of even in the big chains of hotels.
The rooms are tiny.
After our stay here, we moved to another hotel nearby, which was a better value.
Bravo !
The hotel is darling. It is located across the street from the Grove and has a beautiful courtyard for morning coffee.
Unfortunately, we discovered a large cockroach in our room. I understand these things can happen, and we killed it. However, when we saw another one in the morning, in another location, it was VERY upsetting. This was not a cheap hotel, and having spent over $350 for the room and parking, I do not expect to encounter cockroaches!
It's walking distance to The Grove and Farmer's Market. Ideal if you just want to chill and not deal with LA traffic. Great shops and restaurants. An easy way to spend an afternoon and evening without feeling FOMO.
Perhaps the only concerns I have about this place are two things — security and coffee. Since the hotel is a modified motel-style facility, there is no security other than the card lock key to the room. Yes there is a safe in the room . That's it. There's no coffee set up in the room. It's available in the lobby at 6:45 am.
