Beautiful and accommodating staff
Pros:

Very accommodating staff the reception staff Francesca went above and beyond to help us.
The hotel staff were amazing helped me every sitting for food as I am gluten intolerant and they showed me what I can eat.
The entertainment was perfect
The pool was great the views were amazing
The free shuttle bus was a bonus
All round one of the best places we have stayed and it is the staff that make it.
Sarah & Steve

Cons:

We picked wrong room so I did not get views that I had wanted from our balcony but on a whole the whole experience of the hotel made up for that. And I know to make sure to book a room with a view next time not that is affected our stay.

Lovely Hotel and Staff
Pros:

Hotel is beautiful the staff are so friendly and helpful Andreas, Michael barman, Jerico, glass collector and the Poolman. Also not forgetting Victoria the Jet2 rep. The food was varied and tasty and the drinks were great. We stayed in balcony room 504 overlooking the pool and sea it had a lovely view but the balcony was about 24 inches wide and difficult to move around on also the room was very small nowhere to store the empty suit cases. However overall a great holiday and lovely hotel and staff.

A Great Base for Exploring Sorrento – Good Value for What We Paid
Pros:

We stayed here from 9th–16th August as a couple in our late 20s. Before arriving, I’d read quite a few mixed reviews and, based on some of them, was half expecting it to feel like a retirement home! 😂 In reality, there was a real mix of ages. I can see where some of those comments come from, as there were lots of couples who had clearly made friends at the hotel and would sit chatting together for hours, but it certainly wasn’t exclusively an older crowd.

Rooms:
Our room was fairly basic but absolutely fine for what we needed. There was no main ceiling light, only lamps, which made getting ready quite difficult unless you were in the bathroom. We had a small French balcony overlooking an alley, so not much of a view. The double bed was two singles pushed together and wasn’t the comfiest, but we managed.

The air conditioning, however, was fantastic – especially considering it was around 40°C while we were there! We actually found ourselves switching it off during the night because the room got so cold.

The bathroom was dated and very traditionally Italian in style, but it was clean, everything worked and it did the job. Overall, the room was okay and, as we weren’t spending much time in it, we had no major complaints.

Staff:
The staff were very friendly, chatty and welcoming throughout our stay. They always seemed happy to stop for a conversation and made us feel comfortable at the hotel. It also seemed as though there weren’t many staff, as we often saw the same people working long hours and appearing in different uniforms depending on their role or shift. Despite this, they remained pleasant and helpful, which we really appreciated.

Food & drinks:
The food wasn’t awful by any means. For the first few days we thought it was quite nice and there was always something we could eat, although after a while a lot of the dishes did start to taste quite similar. Breakfast was probably the weakest meal for us. I generally stuck to a croissant and fruit each morning.

Lunch was served outside, and personally I would have preferred it to be indoors. Some of the food appeared to be left uncovered and we did see pigeons around the serving area, which put us off a little. We also weren’t particularly keen on the smell of lunch drifting over towards the pool.

There was a good selection of drinks and cocktails available. They weren’t the highest quality cocktails we’ve ever had, but the spritzes were definitely our go-to and were perfectly enjoyable by the pool.

Pool & entertainment:
The pool is quite small and could get busy, but it was lovely for cooling off in the heat. One thing we would have really appreciated was some background music around the pool. It was very quiet, which meant you could hear everyone else’s conversations extremely clearly!

The evening entertainment wasn’t really aimed at us as a younger couple and was quite dry at times – although, admittedly, we sometimes found ourselves entertained for completely the wrong reasons! 😂 That said, we hadn’t booked a party holiday and actually wanted somewhere relatively quiet and relaxing, so it wasn’t a major issue.

Location & shuttle:
This was where the hotel really worked for us. We mainly chose it as a base for exploring Sorrento and the surrounding area rather than somewhere we planned to stay all day, every day.

The shuttle bus into Sorrento was brilliant and very reliable. Both drivers were lovely, and the journey generally took around 10–15 minutes. It made getting in and out of Sorrento really easy.

During the week we did a fantastic boat trip to Amalfi and Positano, visited Pompeii with a guide and travelled there by train, spent a day at a beach club and had plenty of time exploring Sorrento itself. For the type of holiday we wanted, the hotel worked really well as a base.

Hotel:
The hotel was pretty much what we expected from the description and price. It has plenty of character and a real Italian feel, which we actually liked. It isn’t modern or luxurious, but it felt authentic and suited the area well.

Overall:
We booked through Jet2 and felt the price we paid was fair for what we received. There are definitely areas that could be improved and it isn’t a luxury hotel, but I also think expectations need to match the price.

It wasn’t perfect, but perfection wasn’t what we booked it for. We wanted somewhere clean and comfortable to come back to after exploring, with a pool, air conditioning, drinks and easy access into Sorrento – and for that, it did the job well.

We had a fab holiday overall and came home with some amazing memories of Sorrento, Amalfi, Positano and Pompeii. If you’re planning to use the hotel as a base to explore this beautiful part of Italy rather than expecting a luxury resort experience, I think it offers reasonable value for money.

Awful food & staff.
Pros:

Stayed for a week 1st - 7th Aug 26. Reception staff are lovely and helpful and so are the jet2 staff, but that's as far as it goes unfortunately! The hotel is lovely but the Bar and restaurant staff really let it down, they are all miserable, do not chat to you, never smile, the restaurant is one of the worse restaurants in a holiday hotel I have ever been to, the atmosphere is so flat, there was no no background music so it was very quiet every one talking in hushed voices, the waiters hover around your table as soon as you have took your last bite they whip your plate away! They don't ask half the time iether! It would be lovely if they came round at breakfast serving you coffee/tea in stead of walking the length of the restaurant to the only coffee machine to que to get your coffee, which is not very nice anyway! Evening meal the waiters don't even offer you a drink! it all self service again in one place! Awful restaurant!
The food is also awful! We were so disappointed, chili flakes on everything? everything was so bland, and pork on every night even on the so called "fisherman's" night! Breakfast is terrible, the man cooking the omelettes clearly hates his job, very bland omelettes! Lunch by the pool was not nice too! Very uncomfortable sitting in the heat, sweating whilst trying to eat! It was just slop most days! All the pasta dishes were tasteless, I had to resort to adding tabasco sauce just to get some flavour. Drinks were ok at best, the "Coke Zero" was deffo not zero but you can't say anything to the waiter as they pretend they don't understand you! We are out a few time that was really lovely, went to the restaurant at the top of hill the last night, unbelievably good food and service, staff are lovely! Wished we had of gone at the beginning of the week as we would have gone up there quite a few times! Free transport from the hotel is amazing too. The location for us was not good! Would like to be about to leave the Hotel and easily walk to restaurant's and bars but this hotel you can't. I will definitely NOT go back to this hotel, but would go back to Sorrento stay more centrally to the town and go B&B only.

What a gem of a find
Pros:

Wow what a gem of a find when I booked this holiday and reading some of the reviews I was wandering what we would find and we were not disappointed.
The hotel is amazing set outside the main town in a beautiful area and it had the proper Italian feel.
Grand entrance and amazing and friendly staff waiting.
Our room was well spacious beds were very comfortable, bathroom large and spacious
Very clean and tidy, plenty of storage and still in the lovely traditional Italian style.
The food was also not a disappointment, plenty of choice not over the top, you are seated to your table and then you go get your food. Wine is in bottles not off the pull so beautiful wine no cheap rubbish.
Ask for a beer and it is poured for you nothing too much trouble.
Husband not a dessert man but he was addicted to them lol.
Breakfast good lunchtime menu was amazing so much choice and pasta made fresh for you. Evening meals the same , I liked the fact there wasn’t loads of choice but what was there was plenty and something for everyone
We are over 55 and this hotel is say is more suited to people who want traditional style feeling a relaxed atmosphere there were nights when there wasn’t a singer entertaining and we made friends with some great people
Swimming pool is just the right size beds very comfy and pool towels provided
Bonus a shuttle bus is laid on taking you to the town and back free of charge and runs as late as 23.00
Sorrento town is amazing plenty of restaurants and bars and not expensive at all. There is a street full of all the souvenirs ( I called it tat alley) but perfect and the chocolate and lemonchelo is a must.
I could go on and on about this place there’s so much to say and do and
We wi definitely be coming back
This is exceptional value for
Money
Thank you Grand Hotel Pace for
Making our Sorrento holiday a special experience

A tale of two halves
Pros:

As my mum would say fur coat and no knickers. Lots of room for improvement!
We appreciated the location and the old fashioned charm.

Staff - amazing smart and very polite.

Room - was fine, horrible Outlook abandoned building and no natural light.

Pool - much smaller than pictures and can get really crowded. You can stand in a space but can't move. Saw pool cleaning am and chemicals in pm, however I couldn't understand why dead flys floating in pool and a oil slick on top of water from sun oils when I entered the pool - reason filtration system not working I actually put my hand in filter and not working 😕

We did witness sunbed wars not pleasant or relaxing!

Plus we had to set alarm to get up to get pool bed so not relaxing at all.

We saw 4 sunbeds collapse, back legs giving way in one day dangerous and embarrassing for people involved.

Age - the ages whilst we stayed older guests and young guests a good mixture.

Food - breakfast fine.
Lunch - same every day ok but pizza cold disappointing.
Dinner - dinning room lovely it was so much better than the canteen atmosphere at alot of A/I restaurants. However the food was not good seafood pasta tasted great but had 2 small pieces of squid and second time 2 mussels and 1 small prawn. The food is done on the cheap and is very disappointing.
We have been A/I from canary islands to Maldives and never eaten out. This time we ate out twice.

Shuttle bus good.

We go on holiday for peace and never get involved with entertainment. We thought velvet bar wasn't for us so we're thankful for pool bar open to 11pm it was our haven.
However some guests really want to make friends we don't (just our way) we soon worked out we're to sit to avoid people telling their life stories over and over to different people.

Not for us mainly because of food and guests. However lots of guests been before and will no doubt return. Just not for us.

Highly recommended
Pros:

This place is amazing! When you walk it is like going into a stately home. Rooms are stunning with beautiful tiling on the floors and bathroom walls. Rooms have: 3 towels per person, plus 1 pool towel, robe, slippers, tea & coffee facilities, mini fridge with 2 large bottles of water which are replaced during your stay.

We though the food was excellent. the dining room is not too crowded so feels more luxury than your average AI. Lunch is served at the pool bar consisting of pizza, caprese salad, pasta dishes and some meat. You will not go hungry!

A great place to explore from: we visited Pompeii and Herculaneum (get the train from Sorrento) and also had a boat trip from Sorrento itself. The hotel runs a regular bus to and from Sorrento. NB: do NOT use the reps to book excursions, but do book tickets for Pompeii and Herculaneum online before you go. You will save an insane amount of money!

Entertainment is mainly a singer in the Velvet bar, but you sit in the hallway areas or go up to the pool bar if this is not your thing.

Only downside was that the pool is fairly small and not cold enough.

Good value all inclusive
Pros:

Just back from a week at la pace, once we got used to the rooms yellow tiled floors and yellow bathroom we had a very relaxing stay, yellow is a big theme in Sorento anyway, I am quite picky and usually have to eat out a few times wherever I stay but must say I enjoyed the food here, decent choice and quality food, only meals out were on trips, drinks are ok as well and Peroni on tap 😁, very good free WiFi and hotel will arrange trips for you if you want, the hotel could really do with more guest entertainment, even a quiz or a game of bingo on a night would be appreciated, Saturday night is disco night and it’s a bit cheesy but everyone was up for a good dance so it was fun, some nights there is solo singers providing entertainment in the only nighttime bar but at least 2 nights there is nothing, pool is very quiet in the daytime so maybe even some pool activities now and then might be good, my wife’s main gripe is there is really nowhere to safely walk too, no pavements and narrow bendy streets with fast traffic, one little pizza place and a small grocery shop are all that’s near, shuttle bus is a godsend but needs to be hourly instead of odd times, we like a walk after dinner but couldn’t do it here, staff too a person are lovely and so friendly, there is a free taxi at reception up the mountain to a restaurant “ Croce picco”. Don’t bother it, it’s expensive and staff couldn’t care less and if you have a complaint they want you gone, don’t make our mistake, it ruined our wedding anniversary night, the hotel is very clean, beautiful Italian style especially in the main areas. Enjoyed it being adult only, grand hotel la pace sister hotel parco de sol is in a better position being in the town centre but isn’t adult only. Very nice hotel, excellent food for the price and great if you like a relaxing holiday

Underwhelming all inclusive holiday
Pros:

This is the perfect hotel for you if you enjoy the atmosphere in a Wetherspoons on a Wednesday afternoon. It feels like it is a place for retirees who enjoy getting slowly drunk on own brand alcohol of dubious origin. It gives you the sensation that you're in a sunny retirement home.

The rooms with balconies are directly onto the pool so privacy there is non existent. If you have a room without a balcony be prepared to be directly at the lift with a growing amount of other people's dirty glasses collecting over the day having been left there from the night before outside your room door.

The room will also slowly smell of damp as there is no way of drying wet clothes and there is no extraction in the bathroom so everything, including walls, is soaked with condensation when you shower. This means there is lots of mould everywhere which, when pointed out, is met with a shrug of 'Cannot be cleaned'.

Don't recommend if you are under 55 and like basic cleanliness or basic hotel maintenance (see stained carpets on five out of six floors and mould and peeling paint on the top of walls in the rooms / gym / restaurant).

Also, be prepared to grab/reserve a sun bed with your frayed blue towel before 7:30am otherwise there won't be anything until 5pm at the earliest.

On the plus side, the attentive and friendly staff do listen to your complaints. However, it does take many reminders for them to begin to do anything about them and they don't fully solve said issues. (They were helpful if you have a gluten free diet though.)

Wonderful!
Pros:

Beautiful hotel in a lovely location with wonderful views. The staff were incredible, the hotel was clean and very well organised, the food and drink were excellent, the pool was super and the service was outstanding. Yes, the hotel could do with some renovations, but that did not dampen our holiday.

Elegant 19th Centry style hotel.
Pros:

Grand Hotel La Pace, elegant 19th century in styling so not for everyone, high up in the hills overlooking the Sorrento peninsula, a steep 25/30 walk into Sorrento, but a free shuttle bus runs directly into Sorrento throughout the day until 11pm, rooms are spacious and come with a variety of views, we had room 415 which looked out to the side of the hotel with a mountain and side sea view including Mount Vesuvius, the air con was crisp, much needed in 36 degrees heat 🥵 the food on offer was exceptional, with lots of variety to suit all tastes, breakfast and evening meals are served in the restaurant and lunch is served by the pool, there was entertainment most evenings, which included participation if you're up for it, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the housekeeping team kept the hotel and rooms spotless, the pool which is open until 7pm is refreshing relief after a hot day out, im not one for spending hours on a sun bed, but many are reserved at the beginning of the day, despite signage saying you can't!, if I had one gripe about the pool it would be the level changes, these are not very visible and you do suddenly step down. If you're after a relaxing child free break, with a touch of class this is the place for you, would I go again, definitely, but probably when it is much cooler and more bearable.

Go with low expectations, and you won't be disappointed
Pros:

Booked four nights here for a quick last-minute break - chosen partly because of location, mainly because of absolute bargain price (we booked a couple of days before travelling). Wasn’t terrible, but four nights was enough!

The hotel pitches itself as five-star - Jet2 list it as four-star. At best, it’s three-star. There are good points - unfortunately, for almost every good point there’s a “but…”.

The vibe of the hotel could best be described as “faded grandeur” - it clearly used to be a lovely place, and it still has a nice look to parts of it (polished marble floors, sweeping staircase, and so on). But… it really needs some investment to get it back to its best. We’re both in our fifties, but we felt like the youngsters among most of the other guests!

Many of the staff (the ladies on reception in particular) are lovely - pleasant and welcoming, doing everything they can to help. But… there are a small number who clearly hate their job, and want the guests to know that. The older gent who was often on the bar by the pool was particularly miserable and rude.

Housekeeping is generally good - the housekeepers and gardeners, on the whole, keep the place looking nice despite its advancing age and need for a refurbishment. But… attention to detail is really lacking in some areas. We had a poolside room in the small annexe, and while the room was mainly very clean and tidy, there was an ashtray full of dog-ends which remained un-emptied on the wall of our terrace for our whole stay.

The pool area is fairly nice - lovely view down to Sorrento, across the bay and over to Vesuvius. But… there aren’t enough sunbeds for the number of guests (it’s not the kind of place where you’d expect there to be a ‘sunbed rush’ at dawn, but that’s what happens!), and the beds that there are - and especially the parasols - are in pretty bad condition.

Some of the food is pretty good (breakfasts are quite nice, and the desserts at dinner were good). But… there’s not much variety, they’re hopeless at keeping the buffet refreshed and tidy, and lunch was pretty awful. The “theme nights” in the restaurant are comically unimaginative and unimpressive!

The atmosphere at dinner was really strange - they advertise it as being available from 19:00 to 21:30. In a Mediterranean country you’d expect it to be the norm to eat later, but if you show up for dinner after about 20:00 then there won’t be much food left, what there is will look pretty messy and unattractive, and there won’t be any atmosphere at all as most of the guests will have been and gone.

There’s a very useful free shuttle bus which takes guests down into Sorrento. But… some of the timings are really odd, and dovetail badly with the slightly restrictive mealtimes which the hotel operates.

In summary - it was OK for a short last-minute break to chill out a bit and spend a couple of days exploring Sorrento, Capri, etc. But if I’d been there any longer I’d have been wishing for departure day to come around.

One of the best hotels we have been in.
Pros:

Very luxurious hotel, it is certainly very Grand in style. Excellent air conditioning, you can make the room icy if you wish. Pool is quiet and relaxing. Food and drink available all day. Lovely location and a good view of Sorrento. Free shuttle bus to town. Good value and very clean. We would love to go again.

Don't listen to the haters. We loved it!
Pros:

I booked this hotel as a short 4 night getaway for my wife and I to celebrate her 50th birthday. After booking I was a little apprehensive reading some reviews, but from the moment we arrived to when we left, neither of us could fault the experience.

The staff were faultless. Literally to a person they were wonderful. The reception staff were helpful and knowledgeable of the local area. The bar staff were good at getting the drinks out quickly and the restaurant staff were also fantastic.

Our room was clean and more than presentable. There were some signs of wear, but we didn't mind that as it was super clean, spacious and the air con was ice cold which was the case throughout the hotel.

Food was good and varied. Breakfast had a great deal of choice, the pool bar also offered a lot of options and the evening meals were lovely.

Drinks were plentiful and didn't seem watered down or of low quality.

Entertainment was the right side of cheesy which we loved!

The shuttle bus to Sorrento was a great addition and was always on time and was never full so plenty of seats.

The pool was a good size and was cleaned well on an evening. We NEVER struggled to find a sunbed and this is despite us not getting out there until 10am and onwards. The hotel could do with a few more parasols, but this is a minor niggle.

Overall we loved our stay at Grand Hotel La Pace and will be returning. Those who complain about food choices or decor need to - in my opinion - research the hotel fully before booking. You are getting an experience with a distinct Italian flavour - why come to Italy if this isn't what you're wanting?
