The room are incredibly small, it’s very har to move and I had difficulty also in find a place for my luggage (a small trolley). The shower is on the roof of the bathroom, so once you use it it flood all the bathroom. Unfortunately, my shower didn’t get the hot water (while the sink had it). The hotel is ok, it’s been renewed short time ago and it’s in a very good position. There was a strange smell in the elevator area.
Hotel 1929 New Management and New Name
Hotel is under new management and Manager Alfred who can be very blunt and rude.
Room renovated to even smaller and no biday in the toilet.
There were no shampoo, soap or toothpaste and when told to manager Alfred his response was "our staff are very diligent in checking and putting all those things before you come" basically he implied that we were lying.
Too much noise of loud music till midnight and Alfred's response was that we should know about the noise before we book this hotel including the room size. We told him this is our 3rd booking but this place is renovated.
The noise was less in our previous 3rd floor room but he lied his hotel is fully booked when we see 3 rooms are vacant and fully available online.
Alfred the manager is extremely rude. I saw another person complaining about the noise and the response from the staff is the noise only up to 10 pm when it goes to midnight.
The room was in a state of disrepair with flaking paint and cracks in the walls therefore it was difficult to discern how clean the room was, suffice to say I felt uncomfortable staying there. And there was no table or even a chair to put my luggage on so I just had to leave my things on the floor. It was a bad experience and I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
Great location and staff shower was good
Musty smell and room was tiny I got a single superior
Great welcome,very good staff
We booked the 1929 based on our experience from staying there a few years ago. Back then we loved the location, the quirkiness (chairs from VITRA design museum in the rooms) and the great restaurant Amber next door which also served as the breakfast restaurant. Now the only good thing left is the location. The hotel feels completely neglected. The lobby has been reduced to an unwelcoming area with a receptionist sitting in a corner. The “balcony room” was dirty, stains and mold on the walls, mold in the bathroom, floor tiles broken and never replaced, the bathroom fixtures broken. For added security they put the room number on the key card to make easier for anyone finding a lost card to just walk in and clear out your room. Yes, it is not expensive but you don’t even get what you pay for. Always read the reviews and avoid this place!
The hotel portrays itself as something of a 1920s retro colonial style building so we were disappointed to find when we got there, a very run of the mill, rather shabby boarding house.
I loved the location
I think bathrooms need updating
Very close to Chinatown
Price vs value is very low. Uncleared tower bags in hallway for the entire day. Smell musky and air very stagnant, and bug spray smell. Wall pain peeling off, doors at bath don’t close fully. Door safety lock broken but was not replace. We have 2 rooms (deluxe) booked for transit sleep for 1 night only, and we stayed out as long as possible to not go back.
Location was cool. Great restaurants around the area
It was moldy and smelled of wet carpet and mold as soon as you walked in. Moldy grout and tiles missing off the floor. Someone had slapped paint around and had gotten it on the curtains and door frames extra. Room was TINY. No place to put your bags. We looked in another room and it was even worse. Not worth the money. Singapore is expensive hotels but look elsewhere then here
Great location. 5 minutes walk to Outram Park MTR, and 6 minutes walk to Maxwell Hawker Market. Room is ideal for a single traveler who wishes to spend more time outside than in.
Great location in Chinatown next to 2 subway stations.
Friendly and helpful staff.
Hotel is above a noisy bar, wear earplugs or go to bed late. Room is small. Shower and toilet are together making the floor always wet.
Location for me was ideal. Area had plenty of character. I had a couple of requests which the staff willingly fulfilled.
Room safe would have been nice. Biggest let down was the very dim lighting in the room. Bright light inside the shower room but there should have been a bright light over the wash basin.
