Actons Hotel Kinsale

We were really disappointed with our stay here. For a hotel advertised as 4 star, the overall experience simply did not reflect the standard we expected, particularly considering the price.

We stayed as part of our honeymoon and my partner had called the hotel in advance to let them know. Unfortunately, this was never acknowledged at any point during our stay, including at check-in. We certainly weren’t expecting anything extravagant, but even a simple “congratulations” or acknowledgement would have been a nice touch and is something I would expect from a 4 star hotel.

The service on arrival also left a lot to be desired. When we arrived, we asked if we could leave our luggage until the room was ready. The staff member simply pointed towards a door for us to leave the bags ourselves, with no offer to assist us. Again, this might seem like a small thing, but at the price being charged and for a hotel presenting itself as 4-star, the level of service just wasn’t there.

Breakfast was also disappointing and, in our opinion, nowhere near the standard we would expect from a 4-star hotel.

What made the difference particularly noticeable was that we had stayed at another 4 star hotel in Cork City immediately beforehand. It was actually cheaper, yet the difference in service was night and day. The staff there went out of their way to make us feel welcome and made our honeymoon feel special throughout our stay. We will absolutely return there.

Unfortunately, we wouldn’t return to this hotel. Overall, it felt very overpriced for the quality of the accommodation, breakfast and service provided. If we visit Kinsale again, we would choose to stay elsewhere

Wonderful stay,- comfortable room, bed, great view of the harbor, and yes a bit dated but lovely and clean. Good coffee /tea service in the room. SHort walk to town, breakfast was good with a fair amount of choices. Hotel staff all wonderful...but the Pool was icing on the cake! Grateful for the parking ! Would definitely stay there again!

Sehr zentral zum Ort.

Actons Hotel, beautifully situated on the harbour, with parking, which is at a premium in the town. However, I would say that the quality of the hotel is quite shabby. The room was okay and we had an excellent view. I felt that the cleanliness of the hotel wasn't really up to par. We were in the elevator several times over the course of our couple of days stay, and there was smudges and dirt in the elevator that were not cleaned off also as well. The carpets in the dining room and in the main rooms were actually dirty. Having the breakfast, the quality of the food seemed to be the cheapest food that you could possibly have. So overall, disappointed with the hotel and felt that on the website it was portrayed as more luxury than it actually was. There is a swimming pool and health centre which is nearby, which was actually really, really good, and one of the best things about the stay. Although you must remember that in Ireland you always need to wear a swim cap in the swimming pool. The location is great for exploring the town and everything is walkable from there. In fact, we stayed there for two days and did not move our car until the end of our stay.

Beautiful view overlooking the pier, the room was spacious and luminous. A nice coffee machine and two large bottles of water, still and sparkling, were appreciated.

Gorgeous hotel, comfortable, staff look after gluten free guests, excellent.

Hotel well situated and we had a nice room overlooking the harbour. We did have to change rooms though as tricky shower over bath in first one. Nice front lawn to sit on. Decent size pool (a bit aged), nice lounge bar food and good breakfast. Decor is quite tired given price of hotel. Housekeepings is very slow - we waited hours for cleaning despite chasing which made going back to the room difficult. Some rooms require quite a few steps up and down with luggage even once you have gone up in the lift which is not ideal and no warning of this. I hovered between 3 and 4 stars but whilst we had a nice time not sure it is worth a very good grading - probably 3.5 stars and good rather than average though. I would go back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at the Actons...well located close to the town centre, wonderful view from our Harbour View room and great service throughout including the delicious breakfast.

Friendly staff.
Pool quite small and has lots of members.
Food was good but poor selection of fresh fruit for breakfast.
