A charming harbourside hotel, just a short stroll from the town centre.
In these days of contactless keycards and even digital keys on your phone, it was a novelty to be given a real room key on a ring with a big fob. That's not to say that the place is old-fashioned. Despite being Kinsale's oldest hotel, Actons is bang up to date in the ways that matter. Along with the key came a slip of paper with the WiFi login details in both QR code and text form. Fibre broadband delivered one of the fastest connections I've encountered in an Irish hotel.
Our room was a little on the small side with too much furniture crammed in, but that's to be expected when the building was originally a number of houses. The en suite was modern and spotlessly clean with premium toiletries from County Sligo brand VOYA. The peppermint-scented seaweed hand soap smelled so good that I took it home with me to enjoy for weeks.
Dinner in the bar and breakfast in the restaurant were both excellent. Parking was free, and we were fortunate to get a space right next to the entrance. I look forward to returning to Actons and will make sure to bring my swimming togs next time to enjoy the pool!
The room was excellent
nothing
This hotel was spotlessly clean. Staff were very friendly and there breakfast was fabulous. The position of the hotel was on the harbours edge and a five minute walk to the centre of the town.
THE BAD: Stayed in a twin bed room (2 people). first, and most notable was the bedding and the mattress where absolutely terrible. The mattress was firm with no give, a bit of bounce and felt more like a cot than a bed. The sheets were so scratchy and uncomfortable. While visiting Ireland for almost 3 weeks, we stayed at least three nights in five different accommodations, and this was my least favorite, and also the absolute worst Comfrt when it came to sleeping.
The elevator, carpet, and look of the guest room hallways was had the appearence of being old and unclean though I doubt it was unclean because overall the hotel seemed to be well taken care of.
THE GOOD: The bathroom was very nice. Aside from that there was a good amount of closet. Space, I believe it’s safe and a refrigerator as well. It’s a good lesson to keep in mind that the price says more about the accommodations than the website photos and that was truly my bad.
The parking was a bit difficult, the lot was not big enough to fit our car. Granted this was over winter break so that might’ve been why. But though the parking lot looks big, it was full up 24h over three nights day. There is also a gym, but I am not sure if it is part of the hotel or not. The town city center starts directly next-door to the hotel. So the location of the hotel is spectacular.
there is a children’s playground on small a public park, not on the property, but within about 200 or 300 feet walking distance
The staff was very nice and helpful overall. Especially the front desk, the servers and the attendance. The bar staff wasn’t as attentive as the rest of the staff, but still very sweet and nice. So I was very happy with the service.
The view is very pretty, even a back facing room has a view of a very steep hill, where you can see part of old town and the view also captures a nice picture of what the town feels like. The view from the front facing room is spectacular overlooking the water and the beautiful sailboats.
They have a free breakfast included, which is full menu, very convenient and nice and the hours are generous for breakfast. They also have a full restaurant in full bar. Very nice public restroom on the first floor.
OVERALL: bedding, sleep and room accommodations are the most important part of staying at a hotel, especially the bedding & the quality of sleep, and because of this, it gets three out of five stars I was tempted to give it a two, but I don’t think that is very nice because the rest of the hotel is a high 4/5 stars.
Because of the look & the view, I guess I expected a bit more. From their advertised photos, I did not feel like the room matched up. The TV is very far off to the side, and the room wasn’t anything to look at. Outlet placement and availability was “ meh”.
pleasant enough room. small bathroom. just average overall
size and furnishings of room. Very cheap cutlery at breakfast, flimsy paper napkins. This could certainly be improved.
Outside of health and fitness centre looked terrible - dingy, needing painting, mould on walls and roof . Did not go in. Too uninviting
Excellent hotel, lounge and dining. Beautiful rooms and bathrooms. Spotless. Friendly young staff. We have stayed before and think the staff were under a little pressure this visit. The food is very good and being in Kinsale, a real 'foodie' town you have many choices. Check-in efficient and elevator service to all the rooms.
I used the pool (its a separate but directly adjacent building). One standard water depth. Spotless changing rooms and towel service. Our room was a suite - not large but warm and cosy - a free upgrade. The main bar and retaurant are fairly busy all the time so best to reserve for dinner or try one of the many dining options just a few steps away in the village. There is an automated launderette short drive away in the local supermarket's underground parking lot (very handy unless you want to wait a day for the hotel service). Big machines - only takes 45" to wash/almost dry and sends you a text when the machine is done.
The staff were lovely and so accommodating.
Very helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast. Good sports facilities. Everything was great, we were very happy with our stay and will return again.
Breakfast and dinner excellent, staff very friendly and great service
Our bed room was cold , sea view room 318 draft coming in around windows that made room for cold
Location was perfect
Nothing
Breakfast excellent
Good view of harbour from our room
Too much salt in many of the food dishes
More parking spaces
Lovel hotel , great location , lovely room, great breakfast choices- A few points to improve : soup at lunch too cold as was eggs Benedict at breakfast .
Breakfast is included with price of the room. It is spectacular. Open 'buffet' for fruits, cereals, breads, yogurt, juices. Also a menu to order from for eggs, french toast, Eggs Benedict, etc.
Fantastic location and hotel in a busy town. All staff were friendly and helpful
Great location, friendly staff, clean and wonderful breakfast
Lovely hotel and staff very nice. Rooms Lovely but need to look at upgrading windows. Very bad draft and very cold. Alot of condensation on windows in the morning. Room did not hold the heat.
