Exceeded expectations
Pros:

The online reviews were excellent, so we arrived with high expectations, but the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff still surprised us. In particular, Greg at the front desk was a gem. The room was absolutely spotless and had little touches which made us feel both welcomed and at home. Sadly, we were only staying for one night, but we were still able to enjoy the lounge with its tasty light bites, cocktails, and music.

It was a 10 out of 10 experience, and we'd return to, and recommend, The Wallace without any hesitation.

Outstanding
Pros:

This place is an absolute gem! From the friendly and considerate staff, to the convenience and cleanliness as well as the lively night lounge, we’d recommend The Wallace over other big name chain hotels. It was terrific.

Great stay!
Pros:

We had a great stay at The Wallace! We selected it based on location (attended an event at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater) and the price, which was an incredibly great value given how much we enjoyed our stay. We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival, which was very spacious, clean, and comfortable, and we enjoyed snacks (free fries during Happy Hour) and drinks in the lounge before heading out for the night. All staff members were friendly, professional, and welcoming. Highly recommend!

Worth it
Pros:

Cleanest hotel room I've ever had. Staff upgraded us to an incredible room with a balcony and then because our check in was a bit late, they left a complimentary bottle of wine in the room. Everyone was so pleasant and we'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Nordic room experience in a classic area of NYC
Pros:

Newer Upper West side hotel. Rooms are Nordic style with non-standard controls. No information in room about how to operate anything. Looking for a shoe under the bed I discovered a handle. Pulled handle and drawer slid open to display ironing board. No one would expect that. Lighting and room controls are electronic and have the smallest possible font and hard to read unless inches away from panel. Lighting panel has "privacy" switch". By second day I learned this is the equivalent to "Do Not Disturb" sign. No one knows this without a guide.Nordic duvet-in-bag bedding, my least favorite style. There is an in-room Nespresso machine. No American coffee in the building. One must go out for that. No sodas in building, no machine. One must leave the building for that also. At first entry to room ask bellman to describe how to operate EVERYTHING. Demonstrate to you, not just words.
Reading lights work well. Bath is large and shower only in my room so comfortable size. Adequate water pressure and temperature. Bath plumbing is not too post contemporary. Toilet is higher than standard hotel height. Good. Adequate storage space for us. Quiet floor during our stay. Ground floor bar becomes live music club in evening. A pleasant experience.

Worst Service Experience in 25+ Years of Staying in Hotels
Pros:

i have never written a review online of anything in my entire 25 years of being an adult staying at hotels. before today i would have said that the Wallace is one of my favorite hotels in NYC. what happened to change this - i checked in late last night after calling and speaking to the front desk about room availability. i asked about a room w a terrace and said i didn't want to book room (and especially to pay extra for a suite) if no terrace available. when i arrived there was someone else at the desk and they said there wasn't a room available, as the only one open had to be cleaned so was showing as unoccupiable. i told them i booked the room based on being told one w terrace is available. they said there was nothing they could do at that time bc housekeeping not there anymore, so i should call back in the afternoon and they would move me. i just called back and they told me there wasn't any room w terrace available. i said i wouldn't have booked had i known this, and was told explicitly that there was one available. he put the manager on the phone, who reiterated they had no room available. i then said bc i was told something ab the room that wasn't true, i should get a refund or at least a credit. the manager became very rude and said i'm not getting a refund and he wasn't even apologetic. i said how is this different than if i had booked a king bed room and they could only give me a room w a twin bed, wouldn't they provide a credit? he just said again i'm not getting a refund or credit, then started raising his voice saying it's like i'm going to someone's house insisting on something they don't have and not playing by the house rules, whatever that even means. i said what rules did i break, i'm just asking to be treated fairly as a customer who had their product misrepresented to me in a material way. he then said aggressively that there's nothing he will do for me and this conversation is over, then literally hung up on me!

This hotel is nice could be better
Pros:

This is a lovely hotel. The room is very nice indeed. Spacious, very clean and well maintained. Ideal for extended stay perhaps. The staff were helpful and friendly.
The cons for this hotel: location is local, a bit unkept, good supermarket and restaurants nearby. Location is a long way from the NYC energy. Which can be nice if that’s what you are looking for. Central Park a 10
Min walk.
The big misses for me were no cafe, restaurant, room service or breakfast at the hotel. You should expect this for the stars. The other negative for me was the very loud voices of the service/cleaning staff in the hall way all day and night. Very distracting.

Classy, Charming Upper West Side gem
Pros:

The staff at The Wallace are superb: warm, kind, fun, and helpful! We especially want to point out Joseph, Nykah and JaySean who made our stay memorable. The hotel itself is hip, with fantastic updated decor, good size for NY and include helpful amenities. We would definitely stay again!

Excellent stay
Pros:

The Wallace has been our “go to” NYC hotel the majority of our stays over last 2-3 years and will remain so. In a great area of the city that is still easy to get anywhere you need to go. Staff is amazing and rooms are all great size for th city. Lounge is quite fun in evenings.

A gem in the city
Pros:

I hesitate to write this review, because I don't want to give away a secret. It was my first stay at the Wallace, from overseas, for an extended stay of two weeks. Plenty of opportunity for slip ups. Yet there were none. Everything was just great-- a full five star experience at a four star price. It is a small hotel, which allows for personal attention: they know who you are. The staff is excellent, and give you the attention and the smile. The rooms are beautiful and feel more as a residence than a standard-issue hotel. The hotel is located just away from midtown madness, right next to great restaurants and subway and bus lines that take you everywhere. A lounge provides great live music. And no, I am not the son of the owner.

Fantastic Hotel!
Pros:

Absolutely loved our stay at The Wallace.
Lovely staff, beautiful interior and lounge/jazz bar, fantastic rooms. It has a lovely classy calm vibe unlike so many of the ‘party’ type hotels we had looked at before booking.
Our suite was perfect. Loved the electric blinds, comfy bed, big shower, wet bar area and great view. It was so nice to be able to come back to it after a long day sightseeing. Maid service was great, not that we needed it everyday.
Happy Hour is lovely in the bar with great cocktails, live music and complimentary fries.
Great location, close to a multitude of pubs, restaurants and cafes and a 5 min walk from either 79th St or 72nd St subways. But away from the crazy hustle and bustle of say Midtown.
The close by Fairway Market and beautiful Citarella shops are an ideal place to pick up supplies for the room.
No specific restaurant at the hotel (not that we would have used it). We loved The Wallace! Thank you.
