Best secrete in town for relaxing stay, and excellent service.
Pros:

The location is great, walking distance to downtown. Service is outstanding with friendly staff who are genuinely concerned about your comfort. Their Rat, dinning and outside firepit are inviting and relaxing. Been going to Monterey are for over 25 years and did our last three stays and Hotel Abrego.

Relaxing
Pros:

Spacious and comfortable parking lot was big and in the middle of many shops and restaurants and gas stations which helped a lot on the way out. Staff was very polite and accommodated us the best way possible location was clean and the room was nice and quiet, including the beds that were very comfortable to sleep on would definitely visit again

Loved this hotel
Pros:

We went to the Hotel Abrego in Monterey for my birthday in February. The location is very convenient for walking to most everything downtown, the bike/walking trail near the harbor, even cannery row. There are a lot of restaurants near the hotel that you can walk to. Also, the hotel is about a mile from the entrance to the Monterey side of the 17 mile drive.
The rooms are very nice. Upgraded amenities, the fireplace in our room made it feel very cozy. Overall, I would recommend the hotel.

Recommended for convenience & cleanliness
Pros:

Highly recommend! We have stayed at this hotel many times over the years. I stayed in the area for work about 8 years ago, and it was my go-to for price & location. It's clean, safe, convenient and they mostly seem to have competitive rates.
The rooms are always clean and it's fairly quiet (although we have stayed in the main building the last few times & those rooms may be quieter than the outer building). I appreciate that the parking is free, it's close enough to walk downtown, and not far off the freeway for day trips. The staff is always friendly and helpful.
They've done a good job of updating the rooms and adding amenities like complimentary wine by the glass and a breakfast buffet. I'm personally not a fan of warmed buffet food, but it's available. They did have croissant sandwiches wrapped up, which is nice if you want to take something to go. Cereal, toast & bagels and some yogurt and a few other refrigerated items. Enough to each something free! My only complaint was that I didn't see any cream cheese for the bagels, but they could have run out. I didn't ask. A buttered bagel works!
This visit, we stayed 2 nights in a fireplace room and the fireplace didn't work. The front desk credited our account since it was more money for a fireplace room. It was disappointing, but we really weren't in the room that much anyway.

Room needed some updating. Fireplace didn’t work, heater took a long time to warm the room. There was a hole in the wall that needed to be patched. Furniture in lobby/sitting area was really worn.

Pros:

Rooms are very clean and spacious. Beds are comfortable, and lots of pillows. Really helpful to have the refrigerator in the room, Great location to Downtown and Coast.

Nice location, comfortable. Upgraded bed

Cons:

Horrible room the view was of a building with work being done and our front door was in the balcony of the lobby so it was very noisy. We had no soap. Disappointed because I stayed there before and loved it.
Parking lot is difficult to get into and park.
