The staff was great, very helpful and friendly. The breakfast was also good.

Cons:

I dont like to drink from a paper cup. The free wine was great but served in a paper cup took away from that. same with the coffee. I was able to ask for a coffee mug and did find a wine glass when I asked for one.

I had a very disappointing experience during my stay. Upon entering the room, it was immediately clear that cleanliness and maintenance standards were not being met.

The room was infested with ants, and there were moths everywhere — both alive and dead — which made the space feel neglected and unhygienic. In addition, I found several dead spiders around the room, which further reinforced the impression that proper cleaning had not been carried out prior to my arrival.

To make matters worse, the bedhead was damaged, which not only affected the overall appearance of the room but also raised concerns about general upkeep and attention to detail.

I contacted the property to request a partial refund, but received no response. As a result, I will be proceeding with a chargeback.

Overall, the condition of the room fell far below expectations—especially given the €400 price point—and significantly impacted my stay. I would strongly recommend that the hotel improve its cleaning protocols and maintenance standards to ensure a more acceptable experience for future guests.

Hotel Abrego was very comfortable -- everything we were looking for at a reasonable price.
Pros:

Checking in was top-notch! Gentleman who checked us in (Aman?) was very friendly, welcoming, informative. Had answered every question I could have thought of. Took time to review local restaurants for dinner and make suggestions. I loved the glass of wine on arrival. Who doesn't enjoy a glass of wine while you settle into your room?!

Cons:

Breakfast was not a great experience. It seemed like they were tremendously short-staffed - only 2 people seemed to be working. When we arrived for breakfast about 9:30, there was pretty much no food. Over the next 30 minutes, they were gradually replenishing the food. It took quite a long time to get the 1/2 and 1/2 refilled. But the food that they had was pretty good.

Relaxing
Pros:

Will be returning. The asistant Manager was super helpful, and displayed great adversity. My girlfriend and I wanted to extend our stay, but had scheduled the stay for the wrong date. He walked me through the steps on how to switch the dates since we had done it through a 3rd party site, and was very calm and secured our rooms for the correct date.

Rooms were great, clean, comfortable.

The hotel restaurant dinner exceeded our expectations and the staff were warm, welcoming and friendly.

Location is great, very convenient for exploring Monterey.

Breakfast was a good wide selection and the hours were generous.

Cons:

I had to have my door key reset 3 times as it failed to work. This was sorted quickly but was a bit of a faff to keep going to reception.
