Pros:

Great hotel in excellent location
Pros:

Stayed a week at this hotel. All the staff are friendly and helpful. The buffet in the restaurant was exceptional. Gardens are beautifully kept. Overall can’t really find anything negative to say.

Great stay.
Pros:

Excellent hotel. Very clean in all areas and really well looked after. Excellent breakfast spread. Great facilities. Would highly recommend.

Cons:

Couple of things could have been better explained at check-in. We weren’t told pool towels were in rooms, so walked to indoor pool asked about towels and were told we had to go back to rooms to get them. Not told WiFi code not even sure if was free or not, didn’t go back to reception to ask. Would also much prefer if sauna and steam room were able to be accessible from pool area rather than separate.

Great holiday
Pros:

Stayed here with friends. Hotel is lovely and has many amenities which are all excellent. Our room had a great sea view. Spa was great and treatment I had was excellent.

Food options were good - the main buffet was extensive and we ate in one of the other a la carte restaurants which was excellent. The lounge bar was great for an after dinner drink and did have entertainment.

Local buses stop right outside the hotel so makes it a great location to explore.

Such a wonderful hotel!
Pros:

I bought my husband here for a Birthday surprise and could not have been happier. After a slight couple of hiccups on our arrival which the staff were on to quickly, we settled so comfortably into our ‘Junior Suite’. This was spacious, very clean and with beautiful views of the gardens and pool from our lovely balcony.
Our bed was huge and super comfortable. We even had two bathrooms. Had we been staying longer we would have had more use from our kitchenette.

The hotel itself was lovely. The grounds were kept beautifully. There was even a guy appearing with a hawk. The hawk was used for letting fly around to scare off the pigeons. The problem was it frightened the blackbirds too!

We used the indoor pool during our stay as the outside one was too cold in February. This was gorgeous as it was designed for being able to swim outside.

We had a lovely massage each and as a result I had my best nights sleep in months!

The buffet breakfast was plentiful and with so much to choose from. We preferred to visit later which would then keep us going until our evening meal. There was literally so much choice! The staff worked so hard to look after us all. A shout out to Maria should be mentioned. Such a lovely lady who looked after us in Basilica restaurant too.

Now for the Basilica restaurant. The food was Devine and very special. We felt like royalty! They even remembered my husband’s Birthday.

The entertainment in the evening went down very well with the more mature guests. We caught the end of the ABBA tribute night, where the band were playing really well.

Around and about the hotel itself was kept very clean. We had received a letter on arrival requesting us to regularly sanitise our hands due to reduce the risk in flu and cold season. There were many hand sanitising stations dotted around to do this with.

All in all this was a brilliant stay. Madeira was beautiful and the Lido area no exception. The only negative was that we wished we could stay longer. Roll on next year as we would love to return to Porto Mare hotel. Thank you to everyone for making our stay so wonderful.

Can't wait to go back!
Pros:

This was our first trip to Madeira and the Porto Mare Hotel and we loved it!
We booked a week away for some winter sun and could not have been happier with our choice.
The hotel is beautiful with great facilities and immaculately clean and tidy. We were booked for bed and breakfast as we like to experience and support the local businesses when we are away and there was plenty of places nearby for us to choose from.
The hotel breakfast was excellent and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.
The pool areas, both inside and out, were lovely and the orchid garden is a treat.
We can't wait to return next year!

Pleasant and relaxed large resort.
Pros:

Great location and a lovely, well-maintained site. Very relaxed and welcoming. Good sized room with comfortable beds. We had booked a room with a sea view but unfortunately our balcony faced North-East. We could see the sea but we got no afternoon or evening sun and could not use our balcony much because of the cigarette smoke drifting in from other balconies. Otherwise the room was clean and reasonably quiet. Food at breakfast and dinner was good and service was very good. One of the best buffets we have experienced. Good choice of quality wines. Plenty of room outside to relax and enjoy the sunshine. Good value.

Just lovely
Pros:

Perfect location, aimed for people of a certain age. Seeing our parents so well looked after gave us the freedom to just be. Friendly 'normal' staff, seriously clean, live entertainment, great Poncha!! I would definitely stay there again.

Great Stay Overall, Despite a Warm Room
Pros:

Positives: Really nice grounds and a good location. We enjoyed our spacious room, and the majority of the staff were lovely – especially the breakfast staff and the bar staff in the Portofino Bar, who were very attentive. Happy hour at the bar was great, with really nice cocktails and mocktails.
We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis and couldn’t fault the breakfast buffet at all. Housekeeping were great, and the in-room amenities were a nice touch, including bathrobes, slippers, and Rituals products in the bathroom.

Negatives: The room was very warm and the air conditioning didn’t work properly, as it didn’t cool the room down at all. When we mentioned this at reception, the lady we spoke to was quite rude and dismissive. She kept questioning whether we’d closed the terrace doors properly and continued to doubt us even after we confirmed we had. Her tone was very condescending. She said someone would come to check it, but no one ever did. This may have been because the air conditioning isn’t on full power during the winter months, but the room was still really warm and uncomfortable to sleep in. We ended up having to sleep with the terrace door slightly open just to get some fresh air.
