Absolutely gorgeous grounds! Great classic vibes. If you love tropical landscape and animals, this is your spot. Giant tortoises, 2 koi pond very numerous waterfalls. Some nice birds, pet and wild. Lucy the cat is adorable and friendly. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They will even take you at turtle feeding time and bring you along. The owner Kate was very welcoming and a great conversation. Very clean everything. Mattress was the best I've ever had in a hotel! Sheets and towels were soft clean and fresh. Great air conditioner and TV. Room smelled great and floor and Furniture very clean. Furniture was lovely. Wine bar is a great touch. Wonderful live piano. Breakfast looked great but I am up and out of the room very early and back in the evening so I missed that unfortunately. If you are taking the key West Express and are worried about what to do with luggage before check in, no worries. They will let you bring your luggage early and leave it until your room is ready. Also you can use Paradise Porters service to do that for you. Snacks in the lobby and coffee, tea, wine. Housekeeping was good and also flexible if need be. The balcony's are so great. Chairs, table, nice cigar ashtray for smokers. Fans always going and a nice cool natural breeze. If you are a non-smoker, no worries no smoke lingers with all the island breeze and fans. I did not even notice the smokers enjoying and island cigar, it is Key West after all! Obviously I cannot say enough great things, truly my best hotel experience ever. Worth every penny. I stayed 3 nights but next time it will be a week! Thank you Kate & Crew.
Great staff. Beautiful grounds. Great room. We loved it so much we are going back this weekend. That’s 2 weekends in a row.
Beautiful property. Embarrassingly bad service.
We stayed here for my wife’s birthday, and while the property itself was lovely, the service was bad enough to overshadow the experience.
To start, the jacuzzi was broken and we were never warned about it. When I asked about it the next day, the response was basically a shrug. On its own, that would not have ruined the stay, but it set the tone for the indifferent attitude we kept running into.
The main issue was one staff member who was both the breakfast server and the pool bartender. She was consistently rude, dismissive, and acted like helping guests was a burden. Breakfast was unpleasant because of her attitude alone.
Later, we waited for the pool bar to open, and after it still was not open 45 minutes late, I went to the manager’s office. While I was there, that same bartender came in, and the manager told her directly that my wife wanted a Bloody Mary and that we were waiting. She responded with a grunt and stormed off. After that, she proceeded to move at a glacial pace setting up the bar, and we eventually gave up and left.
What made it especially frustrating is that we were not difficult guests at all. We both work in hospitality and service ourselves, so we understand staffing issues and know not everything goes perfectly. We were easygoing and gave the hotel every opportunity to handle things better. Instead, we got indifference, rude treatment, and no real sense that anyone cared.
What was especially telling is that no one ever asked how our stay was. Not at checkout, not when I returned to drop off the key, not once.
This is a beautiful place physically, but the service was genuinely and embarrassingly bad.
The Gardens Hotel was one of the most beautiful and most enjoyable stays we have ever experienced anywhere in the world. Gorgeous, clean, comfortable, relaxing, welcoming, wonderful breakfast, location, all of it! We loved this hotel as much as we loved anything abuot out Key West vacation and we look forward to out next stay at The Gardens!
Positive: Friendly efficient staff, charming house, nice garden, served breakfast, very clean, good location.
Negative: Lavatory seat was broken, bathroom plug and door handle didn't work properly, no free TV, no wardrobe; there was a shallow 3ft cabinet with child coat hangers in it - adult hangers wouldn't fit.
Quaint, beautiful and serene
Traffic noise in the garden.
What a GREAT escape for my wife and me! We walked over from the Key West Express and were immediately welcomed with a refreshing drink! Room wasn't ready but we were able to change and go have lunch nearby. All the recommendations that staff gave were spot on. We stayed in the "historical" part of the house and it was immaculate. My wife loved the "Wine Bar" concept, and even found a new favorite wine. The room had plenty of space for us. Very comfortable bed. Housekeeping was great. The hot breakfast in the morning was plenty for us and a great start. The waitress/bartender/do it all was very firm, to the point, but very efficient and delightful in her own way. It was too cold for the pool, but that area and the gardens were so inviting. Truly a marvelous oasis near Duval Street, and no wonder they get so many awards! We were there during St. Patrick's Day and it was cold for the season, but we didn't find the "Key West Party Scene" around Duval Street or Mallory Square. The walking traffic during the day was much more than at night. I would give 6 stars out of 5 if I could!
My husband and I had the pleasure of staying here March 19th -23rd. We arrived early so they held our luggage until our room was ready. During check-in, we were greeted with glasses of champagne. We stayed in the GH 2. It had a balcony which was great for sipping wine while listening to the nightly events with live music. My husband fractured his leg a week before the trip and a chair for the shower was provided by the hotel to make it easier for him. I can not say enough great things about The Gardens Hotel! Great made to order breakfast every morning. Staff greets you with a smile which made you feel welcome!!! Will definitely stay here again!!
This hotel is amazing. There were 4 of us (my husband and our 2 adult children (24 and 27). We stayed in the Poolside Cottage (Cottage 1 & 2), which had 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with a pull-out couch in the living room and a large kitchenette and air conditioning, which was a must for us! Outside our cottage was a pool, shared only by the people in the other cottages. There is also a larger pool in the common area, where there is also a bar, seating area (where an amazing, included breakfast is served) and grounds that are right out of a tropical fantasy. There is also nightly entertainment, sometimes outside, sometimes inside. The inside sitting area is lovely and has a wine gallery (self-service wine bar!) The staff is incredible. We were greeted by Judith, who treated us like family as soon as we arrived. Annette, who served us breakfast and sometimes tended to the outside bar (among other things), was amazing. Funny (loved to joke around with you) and the hardest worker I have ever seen. A true gem. The rest of the staff was also amazing. The cottage and everywhere on the property was well cared for and very clean. It is one street over from Duval Street, but you would never know it. Quiet in its own little oasis. You can find properties less expensive, but for what you get, it was well worth it. We had an incredible vacation in Key West and would highly recommend The Gardens Hotel for your stay!

Beautiful grounds. Pools were very nice. Staff was mostly very friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Very convenient to everything.
There were political fund raisers held on the grounds two of the three days we were there including the first evening when we just wanted to relax at happy hour by the pool. They did compensate us with free drinks but we had to sit and listen to political speeches!
This was our second visit to the Gardens Hotel and we enjoyed the stay as much as the first time. The staff was very welcoming. The grounds are the nicest we have seen in Key West. There rooms are well kept and clean. We look forward to our next visit.
We can’t say enough good things about The Gardens Hotel. We’ve been visiting Key West for several years and only discovered this hotel last year, but it quickly became our favorite. We returned a little over a week ago for our second stay and came home missing it already.
This place is truly magical. The entire staff is wonderful—so warm, welcoming, and attentive. Rhoda, Nancy, and Phillip in particular made our stay extra special with their kindness and hospitality. This year we also had the pleasure of meeting Kate, the owner, and absolutely adored her. We loved hearing her stories and truly enjoyed all of our conversations with her.
The nightly music and happy hour are such special parts of the experience. They gave us the chance to catch up with friends we met during our visit last year and to make new ones this year. By the end of the trip, we were all saying the same thing, “See you next year.”
We’re already looking forward to our next visit.
The Gardens Hotel is by far one of the most friendly, beautiful, and special places we’ve experienced in every imaginable way. We simply love Phil, Annette, the Georges, Jim, Rhoda, Lynn, Nancy—and most importantly, Kate! The jazz music is superb and makes the whole experience even more memorable. 🎶✨
Always a pleasure at the The Gardens Hotel. The amenities can't be beat and the staff is wonderful!
We will be back!
Nice hotel in perfect location one block off Duvall and short walk to good eats and fun bars (DJs Clam Shack lobster rolls, Kayo Caribbean grill, Mangoes late night music, the Green Parrot just to name a few). Good breakfast, nice pool and pretty grounds and good music in early evening. But, if you stay on ground level you can hear the guests above you who thud across the floor. Unfortunately they woke us at 6 am on Sunday morning after a late night out in town and again for several hours at night when we tried to go to sleep.
The hotel is an oasis in the middle just off Duval, so centrally located. We were fortunate to stay in the main building - in an historic room (#3). The bed was comfortable and the room generally spacious. Breakfasts were a highlight each day and we really enjoyed getting to know Annette over the 5 days we stayed. She was so much fun, and had some great tips on places to go and where to eat - all spot on. The pool area was very nice and the gardens wonderful. If not for unusually cool weather there dueing our stay we would for sure have used the heated pool! The hotel had a wine room where on demand, and self-service, we were able to taste or get a glass of a very wide variety of wines at a wide range of prices - this was a unique and excellent addition to the stay. Overall it was a great experience we hope to repeat!
Location is great. However prices were exorbitant yet hotel and rooms are very dated. Breakfast is plain and starts late at 8:30am. Not recommended.
great location, fabulous atmosphere, suite was super, single room downstairs in outer house would not choose again, value equal to experience, very clean with plush linens, Noise level not ideal when live music playing so plan around that for naps and such, service exceptional, amenities good.
