Black Swan Lakeside Boutique Hotel

Everything about our stay at Black Swan was magical. The property is peaceful and beautifully maintained, with stunning gardens overlooking the lake. The rooms were luxurious and thoughtfully appointed, and the breakfasts and onsite restaurant were both exceptional. The staff, including Star, Tina and Manika, made us feel completely pampered and treated us more like family than guests. A special highlight was watching my partner spend an afternoon painting the serene lakeside landscape, encouraged by the lovely team. We can't thank you enough for making our stay in Rotorua unforgettable!

Exceptional staff who were so attentive and could not do enough for us to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable. Every single staff member was absolutely wonderful however Star was definitely a standout. Great location for views and a tranquil quiet location. Breakfast was delicious and having fresh fruit and snacks available to us was much appreciated.

Beautiful well kept gardens, the rooms were pristine, and the breakfast was excellent. But the most impressive was the customer service of the employees!! They were exceptional!

Felt very much at home being at the hotel; beautiful grounds to relax in whilst there. The manager, Star, was absolutely amazing at making us feel very welcome the whole time we were there.

We had the best time at Black Swan! The service from Star, Manika and Tessa was impeccable. They were so attentive to our every need and were so kind to our daughter (who is still talking about them!).

Spacious bedroom, nice towels and sheets, beautiful view, and a delicious breakfast. The en-suite fireplace was a nice surprise. We spent two nights at Black Swan, and it was amazing. Monica and Tina made us feel at home.

The location is fantastic, the grounds are unique and beautiful, the food is great, and the accommodations are very comfortable and intimate. What made this stay the most special for us, however, was the staff! Every employee of the hotel was extraordinarily friendly and helpful, most of all Star, the receptionist/concierge. She had an infectious enthusiasm that made every conversation a joy to be a part of. Whatever you are paying your staff, you ought to triple it because they are worth any price to keep! Thanks for a wonderful stay!

The Black Swan Lakeview Hotel is a gem, and it’s easy to see why from the moment you arrive. The grounds are simply beautiful — lush, well-tended gardens create a peaceful atmosphere that invites you to slow down and breathe. There are plenty of lovely spots scattered throughout to sit, relax, and soak in the tranquility, making it the kind of place you never want to leave.
But perhaps the most magical moments of the stay were greeting each morning from my balcony with a breathtaking sunrise — the kind of view that stops you mid-sip and reminds you exactly why you travel. Equally unforgettable were the evenings spent by the in-room fireplace, watching the sunset paint the sky while the fire crackled beside me. It was thoroughly special, the sort of quiet luxury that stays with you long after you’ve checked out.
The outdoor amenities are a real highlight. The hot tub, perched with a gorgeous view over the grounds, is the perfect place to unwind after a day of exploring Rotorua. The swimming pool is equally inviting — well-maintained and just the right touch of resort luxury.
The staff deserve special mention. Friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful, they set a welcoming tone throughout the stay and made every interaction a pleasure. A nice bonus: the minibar was refreshed daily, a small but appreciated touch.
Dinner was a true standout. The dining room is excellent — both in atmosphere and on the plate — and made for a memorable evening. And for those practical travel needs, the laundry service was impressively efficient, with a fast turnaround and results that were just right.
Whether you’re seeking rest, scenery, or simply a beautiful base for your New Zealand adventures, the Black Swan Lakeview delivers on every front. Highly recommended.
