The property is a curated exotic garden with postcard picture pockets with sweeping views, places to relax like hammocks, and sensory soothers like water features, birds. The pool was serene with light music, attentive staff, and never felt crowded.
Staying at Hotel Wailea felt like stepping into a movie set of the white lotus or something— unique, special, immersive, and beyond relaxing.
The employees love their jobs and treated myself and others like gold— going above and beyond every time for any little need.
Do not skip eating dinner at the Birdcage or breakfast at the restaurant. The lemon ricotta pancakes are probably the best breakfast food I’ve ever had in my life.
I have no complaints
the birdcage restaurant food is great but very overpriced. menu sizes between starters and mains are inconsistent.
Located in beautiful Wailea the suites are spacious and welcoming and face the ocean. A large lanai allows for enjoying the outdoors. Each suite has special amenities, and the hotel staff makes every effort to accommodate one’s requests. The suites are serviced every day and always well maintained.
On the good side, large bedrooms/suites, quiet as it is adults only, the pool sunbeds were easily available and there was friendly service. On the less good, average food that was nothing special, breakfast and dinner were both. lukewarm and slow to arrive, the attention to detail is lacking for a hotel changing c$2000 a night, the pool team were more interested in chatting to each other than serving customers, we had problems with the tech and phone connections in our room, no clear and comfortable bar area to relax in and communication was mixed between the valet and reception and with our travel agent. We are lucky enough to stay in great hotels around the world and this could be one of them but it lacks the professional and standards to make it so.
We returned to Hotel Wailea again to celebrate our anniversary. It was incredibly special as we also spent our honeymoon here. This property has become our favourite place on earth, and we visit Maui almost every year. This latest visit only reinforced why.
From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense of peace and tranquility. It’s not just the stunning sunset and setting, but also the thoughtfulness woven into every detail.
We were greeted with champagne on arrival, and throughout our stay, we enjoyed special touches - from a floral design class to a thoughtful gift bag with treats on a rainy day. We felt genuinely cared for.
A heartfelt thank you to the entire Hotel Wailea team for making our stay so special again. You’ve built something magical here. We can’t wait to return.
I think this was our tenth time there. Nice room, staff was friendly and helpful. Poor attendant, forgot her name, she’s from Paris, and she was great. No James working the pool bar anymore, and you can tell the difference, just a rotating mix of some non aloha dudes.
The only bad part:
The cabana situation. Used to be first come, first serve. Now I don’t slide down at 7:00am and lay a magazine down to hold a spot, no one should. But now they put up a “reserved” sign. For the first couple of days, three quarters of them sat vacant. I finally asked about them to the staff, $250, which feels like nickel and dime process. HW needs to come up with a better process. It’s not their style to be this non hospitable
ATM~ you need one again
We’ll be back
This was our second time staying at this property. We love the adult only aspect, mainly at the pool, but also just serene in general. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and kept, the food was delicious, and the staff always available, prompt, and friendly. The pool was a very comfortable temp, and the jacuzzi appropriately warm. The room is perhaps the nicest, most well designed ever - like a small house. Absolutely everything you'd need was provided in the room. Very comfortable, spacious, and quiet. A gym was available with complementary yoga, but we just couldn't drag ourselves away from the room in the early morning. We participated in yoga on our first visit though, and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel is up a hill, but still great if one is a walker, accessing the ocean path and shopping. It was wonderful to be out of the fray, but still close to restaurants, etc. The shuttle on demand was always available and prompt. The property was spotlessly kept everywhere - the pool, public spaces, and the room.
No faults whatsoever.
My wife and I stayed at Hotel Wailea over the MLK weekend to celebrate our anniversary. This was our fourth visit to Maui, and our first time staying here. We were thoroughly impressed and would absolutely return.
Location
The hotel is located in Wailea, perched on a hilltop about a mile inland from the beach. While it’s not beachfront, the elevated setting offers beautiful views of the Pacific and a much quieter, more private atmosphere than the large resorts along the shore. The complimentary shuttle service is excellent — quick, reliable, and able to drop you off anywhere in Wailea. We never waited more than a few minutes.
Room
All accommodations are one-bedroom suites, which immediately sets this property apart. We booked a garden-view suite and loved the peaceful outlook over a grassy meadow. The suite was spacious, well appointed, and very comfortable. A nice and increasingly rare touch: the minibar snacks and drinks were complimentary.
Ambience
The overall ambience can be summed up in three words: tranquil tropical oasis. Lush landscaping, open green spaces, and subtle evening lighting create a serene and romantic environment. As an adults-only resort, it feels calm and unhurried — perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking a quieter experience.
Dining
Hotel Wailea has two dining venues. Birdcage is a bar and Japanese restaurant with stunning sunset views over the ocean. The Restaurant offers à la carte breakfast and a fine-dining tasting menu for dinner. We had breakfast there twice and were very impressed by both the quality of the food and the service. The ricotta pancakes were a standout.
Service
Service throughout our stay was outstanding — attentive, warm, and well balanced. The staff were always available when needed but never intrusive. For our anniversary, they surprised us with floral decorations and a handwritten card signed by the staff, which was a genuinely thoughtful and memorable gesture.
Beach Access
Although the hotel is not beachfront, guests can be shuttled to any of Wailea’s beaches, with beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas provided. You do need to carry the chairs and umbrella from the parking area to the beach. The hotel also offers a full-service beach picnic experience, which must be reserved in advance.
Final Thoughts
Hotel Wailea is a peaceful, refined alternative to Maui’s large beachfront resorts. It’s ideal for a romantic getaway or a relaxing adults-only escape. If you value privacy, excellent service, and a calm atmosphere, this property is truly special.
Highly recommended.
i have never stayed at a more luxurious hotel. The 3 rooms of our suite were enormous. The hotel provided leis at check in, soda and water in the room, wonderful shower products, and thick toilet paper. The breakfasts were fantastic and the service phenomenal. The fixed 3 course meal at dinner was one of the best meals I've ever had. This smaller adults only property is perfect for a honeymoon or an anniversary vacation. They have an 82 page wine list. They are not located on the beach, which is actually a blessing. It is very quiet here. I loved just sitting on the porch and watching the birds while my spouse golfed just down the street. Wonderful resort. The only problem is that the self parking spots are ridiculously tight and maddening to try to get into the car. The employee parking spots are larger. I think that they were recently repainted and made smaller. Maybe make the general manager park here so they can see how bad the parking is.
If you are waffling between hotels, please take this as your sign to decide on Hotel Wailea.
My husband and I first visited in 2019 for our honeymoon. 6 years later, we came back and had another truly spectacular experience. If anything, the hotel had elevated its hospitality. Great location, adults only(!!!) with the most attentive staff and bell/valet service you can imagine. True attention to detail on every level. The suites are comfortable and beautiful, with lovely amenities.
Couldn’t recommend enough.
We stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. This was our second time staying at the beautiful Hotel Wailea, and it definitely won’t be our last. The customer service here is top notch; everyone is attentive and friendly, from the valets and the groundskeepers to the servers in the restaurant and the staff at the front desk. There are subtle touches that you might not notice while you’re staying here, like our housekeeper Carina leaving extra coffee pods for us without us asking her to do so. Shannan, Keoni, Angie and everyone at the front desk are wonderful, so kind and caring, always greeting us with smiles. When you get to your next hotel, you’ll think of those thoughtful, kind moments. We highly recommend staying here!
Everything! The location is great and you can feel intimacy and relax in every corner. On top of how beautiful and well designed is.
I absolutely loved everything
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Wailea for a week, and loved our experience there. It will be the hotel that we compare all other hotels to going forward. It's hard to know where to start. The property is a lush oasis of serenity, where the only noises we heard during our stay were those of the many different birds in the surrounding trees. You are a little bit away from the ocean here, but still get amazing views from the rooms and restaurants. Being an adult only resort is a huge bonus for couples wanting to escape for a nice relaxing vacation. They think of every guest need, with things like electric bikes, complimentary concierge (or self parking is also available), sunscreen pump station at the pool, a general number you can text anytime you need anything sent to the room, and so much more. There are two restaurants on property (The Birdcage and The Restaurant) They were both amazing. We had a dinner at each, and breakfast at the restaurant each morning. Some standouts at breakfast were the coconut chia pudding in a half papaya, and the crab eggs benny. The fresh ahi options at dinner were so good, and the service was never less than excellent. The best part was they took care of my wife's dietary needs without any issue. My wife has celiac disease and is very allergic to gluten. She had tons of safe gluten free options for every meal, and loved every bite she had.
We tried out a couple of restaurants at the bigger resorts in the area, and each time we came back at night to the Hotel Wailea, we took a deep breathe, and remarked how glad we were to have booked there. Really hoping we are lucky enough to return in the future!
Hotel Wailea is the perfect choice for a quieter, romantic getaway. Our room was spacious, service was excellent throughout our stay and the amenities (pool, on site dining, transportation assistance and beauty of the property) were outstanding. We will return.
We chose Hotel Wailea primarily because of their no kids policy which is totally worth it. We willingly paid a premium for the Celebration Suite since we were- in fact- celebrating our anniversary. The view was breathtaking and the suite was great. We loved going to hang out at the pool in our downtime.
This place is top tier in every way. I stayed here for my first solo trip and it truly was special and flawless. It was exactly the relaxation that I needed after a week at an intense work conference. From the incredible hospitality to the 24/7 concierge service, I felt extremely well taken care of throughout my stay. Anytime I didn’t want to walk somewhere, I could simply call/ WhatsApp or text and an employee would pick me up. While I prefer to be close to the beach, it honestly was so nice here that you do not even notice it. When I decided to go to the beach,
I was driven there and they even provided towels and a beach chair. An employee also picked me up when I was done with sunset- highly recommend making this trip! I visited Polo Beach which was the closest option and it was absolutely beautiful. The best sunset views and very good vibes.
The food was delicious. I looked forward to breakfast every morning and the pancakes are a must! They are so tasty you don’t even need syrup. The breakfast views were incredible and I’m grateful to my Amex FHR benefits for the daily complimentary breakfast. The Birdcage restaurant was my favorite and it’s fabulous and like the name states it is full of birds. The bird sounds do get loud but the views are so worth it! The salmon and skewers I ordered were amazing and spending sunset at the restaurant with those incredible views was truly special.
I took SO many pictures! The photos don’t do it justice but I tried my best to capture the magic.
I felt completely relaxed and loved my stay here.
The attention to detail was evident everywhere from the luxurious beauty and body products ( which smelled amazing!) to the incredible bathtub and high tech Toto toilets (which reminded me of Japan) to the most comfortable bedding and couch to stunning balcony views. I traveled to another city and hotel after this stay and could not stop thinking about Hotel Wailea. You spoiled me and I can’t wait to return to Maui and to this property in paradise!
