My wife & I took the 11AM Mansion tour, followed by lunch at the OHK restaurant. Very interesting tour and very knowledgeable tour guide. Definitely recommend. (Did not see as many rooms as I would have thought, but what is shown is worth seeing). Will provide separate review for the restaurant.
I took my husband there for a milestone birthday, neither of us had every been there! I heard about it from a colleague. The history is magnificient. We stayed in the Gatbsy Suite on the 3 floor, fabulous. We took the tour, dinner at the restaurant was top notch. We met the owner the next day at the restaurant after our history lesson. I would highly recommend. My hubby was over the moon at being able to stay and learn about the history! Kudos to Oheka Castle Hotel and Estate!!!!!!
Our tour guide Janet did an outstanding job telling us the history of Oheka Castle and Otto Kahn. She was interesting and relayed the information in such a way to keep our attention for the 90 minutes she kept us. It is clear that she loves the castle and has done her research. My friend and I are history teachers and Janet was able to share with us the parallel of the castle’s history and that of Long Island. We then enjoyed a delicious lunch in the castle.
It was an unexpected delightful day. More than I expected. The tour and tour guide was very informative. The Castle and surroundings just beautiful. Lunch was in a pretty setting, good food and elegant service.
Certainly worth a visit.
I was lucky enough to stay here for 2 nights in a beautiful suite. It was truly magical and the experience of a lifetime. You really feel like the "queen of the castle". The food in the restaurant is outstanding. They offer a great happy hour at the bar during the week. A great place to feel special and celebrate any occasion. We will definitely return.
Good
Very nice.
Absolute ridiculous professionalism. We booked a tour and lunch months in advance and were very excited to go today. Then we get a phone call 3 hours before our tour that they have a last minute event and have to cancel the tour. That is not acceptable and terrible business. We are very disappointed since we made all our plans around this tour and lunch on a weekend because we work. There are no openings till October on the weekends just unbelievable.
Beautiful primary spaces. Room was a bit tired but still very comfortable and lovely.
Basically, totally run down and shabby.
Wonderful stay in this lovely hotel. Beautiful hotel and grounds. We grew up In Huntington and this was a trip back home.
Nothing to not like about this gem
Please note this is about the historical tour on the grounds not the actual venue. First and foremost, if you are going to market a tour as historical there should be some substantial history on the tour. What little history you do dole out should be accurate. Additionally, you should do more than mention Otto Kahn & family or his accomplishments basically in passing through out the tour. It does a great disservice to the man. I have recieved more indepth knowledge about Otto Kahn & Oheka on the NY Adventure Club or speaking with Tim Dolan the owner of the Broadway Up Close Tour Company. I suspect the "historical" tour is more about getting you to book an event or a stay with them. They really should do better.
I had the most memorable experience during my anniversary celebration, everything was perfect. From the moment we arrived, Mikey the valet was incredibly helpful and check in was smooth at front desk. I mixed-up my dinner reservation, but Johnny made sure we were well taken care of. Mike provided outstanding service during our dinner at the restaurant, and Dennis at the front desk gave us excellent local recommendations. Truly a fantastic stay!
We booked the tour of the castle which was excellent. It covered history of the property from conception to completion and then through the several owners including a military academy. The castle was in ruins for about 10 years and the current owner purchased it and did an unbelievable renovation as the castle was in ruins from being vacant for so many years. The outdoor garden is spectacular. Our favorite rooms the library and Charlie Chaplin and the Grand staircase. The home is so large that they are constantly renovating. It is the 2nd largest castle in the United States. We had lunch which I would suggest a reservation. It was good but pricey which you would expect.
The air conditioning did not work at all in my room. I spent the night sweating terribly.
The space was clean and the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The tours were not readily available, but the space was open to view some of the property. The room did not meet my expectations for “deluxe” but it was clean.
This is wonderful place! Highly recommended!
Beautifully restored old mansion and grounds. Love the sense of history. Note that not everything is perfect - but unique and wonderful in spite of some details. All bedrooms are in the old mansion (no annex).
We met the owner and he was very friendly and nice.
