Basic.
Pros:

Location and sense of history in this once beautiful building.

Cons:

We booked a triple room. Apparently the only triple is above an event room. It sounded like the band was in the room and we had front row seats. We were offered a different room but it meant splitting out family group into a double room and separate single which wasn’t acceptable to us. We were offered no compensation, access to the event so we could at least enjoy it in person, discount at the bar to at least reduce the frustration and inconvenience this caused. There was no manager who was decision maker on duty over the weekend… so avoid if you need someone who can actually assist. Apparently the A4 signs dotted about the lifts is sufficient to advise of such disturbances… this may have also helped on the booking page when we booked the room - as one of the party was a hearing aid wearer they couldn’t hear any of our conversations at all, only the music from the event. They gave up and took the hearing aid out in the end. Also - for a triple room there was 4 sockets - all in 1 location, one for the lamp. No sockets near the beds. It was pretty inconvenient. The hotel is tired and a bit dated, clearly once grand. Would benefit from a bit of investment to bring some of that grandeur back to this beautiful and impressive building. Bed was comfortable, breakfast was ample and location to the town centre was good.

Friendly, welcoming, lovely atmosphere, very spacious
Pros:

Location was perfect, we had an event at the conference centre and the walk was pleasant and not too far but enough to stretch our legs before and after a day of sitting down! I shared a triple room with two friends and the room was plenty big enough for three of us for three nights, same as the bathroom, plenty of space to store all our toiletries without being in each others way. The welcome we received from staff was fantastic, very friendly and refreshing after a long drive.

Cons:

The free wifi was not great and our phone data wasn't very good so would have been a struggle if we'd planned on working from there, and the kettle in the room was very small, held enough water for two cups so wasn't very helpful for three of us but otherwise very happy.

Average. Not bad or good.
Pros:

Close to town centre.
Plenty of parking available.
Good breakfast.

Cons:

On arrival receptionist told us we had been upgraded. The room was small and the bathroom was unremarkable. Not sure what our original room would have been like.
