The view and the property was breathtaking. The walk by the sea is a must!
We liked the position by the sea, great view, pool and grounds, very nice staff. The breakfast was substantial and good.
The dinner meal main dish was of poor quality and very small on portions, and overpriced. The bathrooms were a bit small. The dinner was very much over priced for what was offered.
The owner was very kind but our first room was not properly cleaned and the second room was more clean but had some gum in the couch and the remote was very sticky. The bathroom tub buttons also did not work.
We went to the Emerson Inn because we were scouting out wedding locations for my daughter. The Inn is in a beautiful location, good for walking along the water and close to the town of Rockport. On both nights, we enjoyed eating in the hotel restaurant which was very good. The interior is a charming older building that is well maintained and updated. The people who work in the Inn are friendly and helpful. All in all a very positive experience. Thanks!
The inn is absolutely beautiful — everything was spotless and welcoming. The bedding was extremely comfortable, and all the staff were friendly, helpful, and very knowledgeable about the area. They went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed. A special thank-you to Lynn, whose kindness and exceptional service made our stay even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this wonderful place!
breakfast was fresh, location was nostalgic, excellent ocean views and sunrises.
Very late check in. Response from person at the desk? “You want a clean room right?” Very nonchalant about causing delays for numerous guests. We missed our dinner reservations in Gloucester. Very disappointed.
Fruit flies all over the food that was put out for breakfast.
My wife and I were looking for quiet old New England Inn with charm to celebrate our 60 wedding anniversary - The Emerson was the ultimate selection. Expansive lawns between the hotel and the deep blue water was the perfect setting. Being about a mile away from the busy shopping area helped ensure the tranquility was with us during our entire stay. The unobstructed view of the water from our room helped maintain the peace we sought. The room was clean, neat, comfortable and well appointed and decorated. Real furniture, adding to the Old New England setting.
The entire staff was Wonderful! They all seemed to get joy out of our happiness and would anticipate our every need - although most of the time we didn't know we had any needs. They were very knowledgeable about all facets of the inn and could usually handle all questions and situations themselves without having to refer to others. The breakfast was very well done and the dining room was a real class act with menu choices that covered something for every taste. The piano player in the lounge provided excellent entertainment and made us all feel like part of a family gathering.
Emerson Inn was the perfect place for us and number 1 on our list of places we have stayed. We will return (for 65th anniversary?)
We went to this beautiful hotel for our honeymoon as a peaceful getaway for a couple of days. With the gorgeous ocean view, perfect weather for walking, beautiful gardens and delicious breakfast, this location and hotel did not disappoint in any way and made for a most memorable honeymoon. The customer service was also excellent.
Just absolutely spectacular. We had our wedding at the Emerson Inn this weekend and filled the inn with our closest family and friends - there was nothing but great reviews from everyone. The staff was truly amazing and did everything they could to make us all feel welcome and comfortable. We could not recommend the Emerson enough, and cannot wait to come back every year on our anniversary!
We just got back from a wonderful weekend at the Emerson Inn. It was our 45th wedding anniversary and I couldn’t decide which inn to go to but then decided on the Emerson Inn. What a choice!!!! At first we booked for two nights but after being there one night added another night to our reservation and they were able to accommodate us.
The surroundings of the property is just beautiful. Hotel to parking is easy access and if you have ever been to Rockport parking is tight everywhere you go. Streets are narrow and a lot of accommodations have limited areas to park. But that is the charm of the area.
Views especially sea views are breathtaking. restaurants are delicious too.
But back to the Inn, everyone we encountered was pleasant and helpful when needed. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Restaurant was superb. There was plenty to do just around the inn.
Take a stroll, swim in pool, sit around fire pit at night, they have a beautiful game room, or just sit on the great porch and watch the sunrise.
If you ever get a chance please stay at the Emerson Inn. I highly recommend it.
I read the reviews, and knew there was no elevator, but didn’t really think about carrying a large suitcase to the third floor of an old inn🤪. If this is an overnight stop on your trip, do yourself a favor and pack a carry on. Otherwise the inn was lovely. Room was small but comfortable, great view of the ocean. The staff could not have been nicer. We had dinner there, it was delicious. Our waitress was Nicole, very personable and engaging. We were lucky to be there on a Thursday, very good piano player who sang too.
Rooms are small but just use for sleeping. This hotel is a winner. Restaurant in hotel was excellent as was the view from their xtra large porch with comfy chairs. Location of hotel is also great. Close to center city for great eating and shopping. Highly recommend Little Icecream shop. Also, across street, best Lobster rolls you will ever eat. You haven’t lived until you experience all that the Emerson has to offer in beautiful Rockport!!

My goal was to have a relaxing solo overnight and it fit the bill in an amazing fashion. I LOVED my room with the sea view and will definitely stay in that room again. The pool was amazing and they kindly let me use the pool both before my check in and after my check out, which really extended my stay. Everyone I interacted with there was super nice and very welcoming. I’m obsessed with the historical charm of the building. The ocean view is everything! I went midweek and it was very quiet and I just thoroughly enjoyed everything about it.
Lovely place to stay. Owner on duty to help and oversee. Peaceful and very enjoyable visit.
The Emerson inn By The Sea is a warn and welcoming destination that blends rich history with modern amenities. It offers a warm welcoming staff, cozy accommodations, a refreshing salt water pool, and activities to fill your daily schedule. The Emerson is located 2 miles from the center of Rockport (which is an artists dream location) and only a short 15 minute drive from Gloucester. Easy residential walks with beautiful ocean views and professionally landscaped residences compliment the Emerson facilities. A game room/library/movie theater is available for days of inclement weather. Overall the Emerson Inn By The Sea is a big hit with us and an assured return location next year.
