My room was by the bar and in the evening it was very noisy There also was a Ted Talk at the dining area which made it impossible to go to sleep
We stayed here three nights while visiting SMA. This hotel is pretty good in terms of location and quality. It is located on one of the nicest streets in this town. It is also really close to the town square and Parroquia. Our stay included continental breakfast, which consisted of toast, yogurt, granola, fruit, juice, and coffee. However, since we are vegan, we only enjoyed the fruit, toast with jam, and juices. Everyone at the hotel was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The reason I did not give it a full rating is because our room could use some maintenance/improvement in the bathroom, as one of the faucets leaked when closed and the toilet didn’t flush well. We could also hear exterior noises pretty good while inside our room with the door shut; we did have the room closest to the bar and pool though. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed our stay. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious- to my liking. Overall, I would return.
the location is perfect very quiet street few minutes from the center.
the restaurant is really good. the rooms are nice with a nice view they are spacious and the bathroom is big. everyone was very helpful and the concierge took care of all my reservations in town plus the transfers from the airport.
Outstanding hotel in every way. We loved the location and the staff was extremely helpful. Our room was quiet and clean. We would definitely stay here again.
Great staff
If you are looking for the perfect home base for a 3-night stay in San Miguel de Allende, Hotel Matilda is it. It is a high-design sanctuary that manages to feel both ultra-modern and incredibly welcoming.
Personalized Service at its Finest
The service here isn't just "good"—it’s deeply personal. The manager, Gustavo, was incredibly attentive and clearly cares about making every guest's stay perfect. The staff handled our restaurant recommendations and reservations with ease. Most impressively, when we purchased local art, they took the lead in contacting DHL to coordinate shipping sizes and pricing for us. It made what could have been a stressful process completely seamless.
Vibe & Atmosphere
The architecture is stunning, blending sleek modern lines with lush natural elements like the vibrant bougainvillea lining the walls.
• The Playlist: The music throughout the property is modern and "vibey." I found myself constantly Shazaming their playlist to take a piece of the hotel’s atmosphere home with me!
• The Retreat: Because it’s a smaller property, it feels like a private club. We often had the breakfast room or bar to ourselves, providing a quiet, sophisticated retreat from the busy streets of SMA.
The Rooms & Spa
Our rooms featured balconies overlooking a peaceful koi pond with beautiful views of the city. The bathrooms are impressively large and luxurious.
• Family Travel: My kids shared a room which worked out perfectly, though it is worth noting for families that most rooms feature King beds.
• The Spa: My family raved about their massages. The spa is excellent, and we found it very easy to get appointments during our stay.
Location
You are in the absolute heart of town. You get the benefit of being steps away from everything while maintaining a sense of total privacy once you step back inside the hotel gates.
Summary
Hotel Matilda is a "vibe" in the best way possible. From the art-centric design to the exceptional care from Gustavo and his team, it is easily one of the best hotel experiences we’ve had.
We loved the service at the front desk from Samantha, Gustavo & Christopher.
We had a wonderful stay at Matilda Hotel Boutique. The service was truly amazing, friendly, and always willing to help. Our room was spacious, very clean, and thoughtfully designed, making it a comfortable place to relax after a day exploring the city.
The hotel is also very well located, with easy access to the main attractions of San Miguel de Allende. Overall, it’s a lovely hotel and a great choice for couples looking for a stylish and comfortable stay.
I have loved this hotel since the doors opened and before. Traveling to San Miguel since 1980, I knew the first hotel on the site. When Matilda opened I loved everything about the design, the art, the food. We attended a family wedding and our home was the venue for the ceremony, so a great opportunity to stay. I misbooked the dates, the staff were so kind and rearranged everything. The breakfast is a dream, the rooms comfortable and the location just perfect for a quick stroll to all of the best in dining and shopping but quiet street. Stay here!
From the moment we checked in and during our entire stay we were treated warmly by all the friendly staff. The location is perfect, within walking distance to the downtown area, parks and services. The hotel is charming with a great lobby area full of art. Having the restaurant on-site is convenient. Our room was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Any excursion can be booked at the concierge desk, and English is spoken by staff. We look forward to our next stay at Hotel Matilda!
Especially well designed hotel in an idea spot for fun and relaxation. Close to good food and a park. You won’t be disappointed.
We loved our stay. Perfectly located, the included breakfast and coffee and juice was a great value, the room was bright and airy...all very comfortable. Would 100% recommend and hope to stay there again!
We recently stayed at Hotel Matilda in San Miguel de Allende, and it was truly one of the highlights of our trip. The hotel blends contemporary design with the charm of the town perfectly — stylish without feeling pretentious, and warm without being overly formal.
The service was exceptional from start to finish. The concierge team not only helped us with dinner arrangements at Moxi, but also prepared a beautiful birthday setup in the room, complete with a handwritten note and dessert. Those small touches really made the experience personal and unforgettable.
The location is ideal — just a short walk from the main square, yet quiet enough to feel like a retreat. Our room was well-designed, spacious, and filled with natural light, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The art pieces displayed throughout the property add so much personality.
I had the absolute best hotel experience at Hotel Matilda! I was in town for a family wedding and they helped accommodate a watch party for our favorite American football team. Every staff member was so kind and helpful! I felt like a valued guest from the moment I walked up to the minute I left. Super clean, well-staffed, great drinks, yummy food! My family and friends were jealous that I booked here and they didn't. I wish I had my next trip planned so I can stay here again. Highly HIGHLY recommend! Muchos gracias, Hotel Matilda!
From the moment we decided to go to San Miguel de Allende, we looked at many hotels for our week-long stay. The proximity to the center city was ultimately one of the main reasons we decided to stay at Hotel Matilda. But, we were extremely pleased with the personal attention to detail and the wonderful environment! We used their What's App to start communication and it made our experience perfect! They made restaurant reservations, arranged a wine tour, gave us some ideas of things to do, and found a private room where we could watch Monday Night Football! We loved their entire staff but want to give special kudos to Gustavo, Samantha and Axel, and the best bartender, Oscar! We travel a great deal and this will remain one of our fondest memories. Thank you Hotel Matilda for your wonderful service, fantastic meals and beautiful room, 4A.
The staff at Hotel Matilda were extremely helpful and accommodating. Our room was clean, comfortable, and the accomodations at the hotel (gym, pool, dining) were great for our stay. The hotel location was central to SMA. Would definitely recommend and return!
We stayed at Hotel Matilda for 5 nights in a king room. The room was very nice, the bed very comfortable, large bath with two vanities and oversized walk in shower. Our room had a small but nice balcony with chairs that we enjoyed. Breakfast was included which consisted of great fresh juice choices, yogurt with granola and fresh fruit and toast with great strawberry jam. The staff was incredibly nice, attentive and friendly. The pool area is very pretty but the pool is rather small with 4 lounge chairs but there was always space available. Samantha and Gustavo at the front desk were incredibly helpful, offering great suggestions and making any reservations on our behalf. The hotel is very conveniently located with a short 5 minute walk to the center of town. Highly recommended.
Disappointed - For this "caliber" of hotel - VERY Mid level service - good location - but there are SOOO many other nice hotels that will be getting my business when I return this winter
Hotel Matilda is our Top Choice in San Miguel de Allende!
Hotel Matilda is perfectly located, just a 5-minute stroll from the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel and Plaza de la Paz. The hotel itself is incredibly clean and boasts a contemporary, upscale design that's truly impressive. While the room rates are on the higher side, you definitely get what you pay for.
Our room was spacious and impeccably clean, especially the bathroom, which was a real highlight. The staff here are absolutely wonderful – professional, courteous, super nice, and incredibly helpful. A huge thank you to Gustavo, Carlos, and Axel for making our stay even more enjoyable!
We also loved the look of the on-site restaurant, especially the terrace with its pleasant view. We're already planning our next trip to San Miguel de Allende, and there's no doubt we'll be staying at Hotel Matilda again. Strongly recommended!
Enjoyed our stay here very much. Hotel is spotless and interestingly designed to amuse and comfort guests. The staff was helpful with recommendations and reservations. Our room was spacious and comfortable. There was a large bathroom and a small deck overlooking the courtyard.
The hotel is in the middle of San Miguel, which is very convenient for walking anywhere in the central town. It can also be noisy at night because of people partying nearby in this dense area. When this hotel was playing music in the courtyard at night at the bar even though no one was there, we asked them to turn it off and they did.
As Marriott platinum members, we had the complimentary breakfast. It was simple: fruit, yogurt, granola and some pastries. OK, nothing special. Service was good. We didn't take any meals at the hotel restaurant. Recommend staying here to visit the magical city of San Miguel de Allende.
MATILDA is more like a private resort than a hotel.
Staff are perfectly friendly and accommodating.
We chose a suite category but were upgraded to an even larger suite.
The room was calm, sophisticated, and extremely comfortable.
The bed linens are luxurious as were the bath towels.
The food is magnificent, beautifully prepared and served. Surprising menu options that over achieved our expectations.
The spa was excellent. We had three amazing treatments that again exceeded our expectations.
We were surprised and delighted by the concierge staff. They made all our outside meal reservations. But then they went so far as to surprise us with a round of drinks or the best table in the house.
We were blown away!
We could not say thank you enough
