A decent place for a night stay near the HBF

Overpriced run down hotel in sketchy area
Pros:

Bed comfortable. Spacious room for Europe (twin beds). Bathroom was renovated and nice. Lots of windows which was good for air flow as no air conditioner.
I did find a good laundromat about 10 mins walk which was helpful as I was on a long trip and needed to wash clothes. For those potentially staying it was Eco-Express Laundry D5 on Schützenstraße and you could pay by card or cash.

Cons:

No air conditioner in room - if you don't want windows open at night (noisy street), ask for a fan on arrival - they loaned me one. I also had to borrow a kettle and iron as these are not standard in the room. Area was a bit sketchy.. I would stay further away from train station area next time but didn't know Dusseldorf at all when booking (Aldstadt area was nicer in person). Hotel was very old, run down and dirty in a lot of areas. There were bits of dumped furniture all around the place. It definitely needs a renovation and a good deep clean everywhere, new carpets etc. The 2 Chinese staff were polite enough, I think they seemed new to Dusseldorf as the lady could not answer my questions about trains or a good local restaurant, stating she only knew the Chinese food places. The Chinese male staff member was helpful but had to use Google translate to communicate with me at times. I would give polite feedback that the staff should become more familiar with the local area to help visitors :) Also the smoke detector battery died during the night and kept beeping so I couldn't sleep and the reception is not 24hr so no one could help me until staff read my emails approx 10AM. The male staff member was very apologetic and offered a discount on my first night's stay for the inconvenience which was unexpected and appreciated. Despite this I will not stay here again.
