Sun City Hotel and Casino

Hotel rooms are old and in urgent need of attention. Breakfast was poor. Location is fantastic but it hides a multitude of problems. At R5k per night, not worth it at all.

I recently stayed at Sun City Hotel for my birthday celebration and unfortunately the service throughout the property was extremely disappointing.

Pool Service:
The pool service was unacceptable. We waited up to an hour just to be attended to, and in some cases our orders never arrived at all. When trying to call waiters, we were repeatedly told it was their time to go home. Staff also mentioned they do not serve certain seating areas because customers previously ran away late at night — which should not be the burden of paying guests.
Even after finally placing an order, no one returned to check on us. If we wanted to order again, we had to wait another hour to get someone’s attention, followed by an additional 45 minutes to an hour for the order itself. There was no follow-up service at all.

Restaurant Service (including Hard Rock Cafe):
At Hard Rock Cafe, we sat for 20 minutes before being offered a menu. We then waited again for someone to take our order, while staff stood around chatting or using their phones. After serving food, staff left quickly without asking if we needed anything further, and we never saw them again. This pattern of inattentive service was consistent.

General Hotel Staff Conduct:
Staff members frequently served guests while on their phones, which appeared unprofessional. We requested an iron and waited an extended period without clear communication on whether it would arrive. Even when items were handed to us, staff remained on their phones.

Check-In & Check-Out Experience:
Check-in lacked basic hospitality. After receiving our room cards, no one explained hotel services or facilities — we had to figure everything out ourselves.
When our car keys were taken at arrival, we had to ask whether we would receive a ticket corresponding to our vehicle details for security purposes. We were told our keys would be returned to us, which never happened. We eventually had to go and fetch them ourselves due to poor communication.

At check-out, we were told only one driver was on duty and were instructed to fetch our own vehicle. No assistance was offered, not even during the rain. There was no ushering or basic courtesy expected from a hotel of this standard.
Overall, the service lacked professionalism, attentiveness, and communication. For a destination of this reputation, the experience was far below expectation.

Sun City hotel rooms are filthy and unhygienic.
The managers are ill equipped to handle complaints and do not keep their word.
Shuttle services were pathetic.
It is a pity because the resort and surroundings are beautiful,
Previous stay at the Cascades was wonderful.
The standards have dropped,

Sun city always fun, one stop shop. Everything readily available. I’ve been going for 4years but it’s never boring. Minor things not satisfied with the casino sound, hotel not sound proof enough. Pillows not comfortable. 1st time at the hotel was surprised didn’t have a gym and had to pay for the facility. Shouldn’t it be a perk for staying in the hotel ?

Lovely family hoilday , beautiful resort very clean with friendly staff. The breakfast was amazing.loved the wild waves , we def going back..

Stayed with elderly parents. Concierge never came to collect luggage despite 3 calls. Breakfast was available for only 30 minutes (we paid for one day that was not included), food not replenished, and staff refused to provide basics, despite paying full price for 4 adults. No assistance offered. Bring your own water; it tasted awful and caused a stomach bug. Stayed here for 20+ years—never again!! Overseas tourists take note!

So much to see and do. Hiking trails are fantastic.

We traveled with family members who haven’t visited Sun City before and they were amazed at the experience. We showed them the best time . We extended our stay because it was so hard to leave.

The hotel staff were very rude and did not want to assist me with anything maybe they seen me as a 27 year old boy and thought they could disrespect me I support all sun international hotel and casinos but I'm really disappointed with the suncity hotel reception

It was the end of the year and a very busy season, so I understand that the hotel was under pressure. However, considering how expensive this hotel could be, I believe it should employ more staff—especially housekeeping. The cleanliness of our initial room was poor enough that we had to request a room change. Afterward, we were given a larger and much cleaner room, so I won’t go into further detail about that issue.
Another inconvenience was how difficult it was to reach staff by phone. On several occasions, we had no choice but to go directly to the reception for assistance. Housekeeping was done at very irregular and unexpected times (either around 9 a.m. or as late as 4 p.m.), and whenever we requested something, we had to wait over an hour. We were told that bedding for the sofa bed would be delivered, but it only arrived around 9 p.m., nearly two hours after our request, by which time the children were already asleep.
Breakfast was up to the standard overall, but it was disappointing that you had to pay extra for decent coffee. The complimentary coffee was extremely bitter and not enjoyable.
The worst issue, however, was the loud music from the pool area, which continued until around 2 a.m. It was so loud that it was hard to sleep.
We also visited the Palace Hotel hoping to see the “Lost Garden,” but we were stopped by a security guard and not allowed to enter, even the lobby. The way we were treated made us feel unwelcome, almost like intruders. I have stayed in many hotels across different countries, and I have never experienced being blocked at the entrance in this way. In contrast, Sun City Hotel shares the same entrance as the casino, and there appears to be no proper control to prevent casino visitors from accessing the hotel room floors.
We chose Sun City Hotel mainly because it's the only hotel there that offers a family room for four people, including children over 12 years. Unfortunately, we regretted that decision.
That said, aside from the hotel experience itself, the surrounding facilities—such as the golf course and the natural environment—were truly excellent and enjoyable. We liked the experience in Safari and water park as well. I would like to visit the area again, but the negative memories from this stay make me hesitate.

We had a wonderful time, kids had spent more time in the pools and the Dj at was playing good house music.

Overall great experience with world class facilities. All you need in one resort, visiting for more than 40 years now

I was not impressed with Sun City Hotel Escapes compared to the Cabanas. The hotel room did not look maintained and was also not cleaned properly. I would prefer booking at the Cabanas for our next visit.

The service, the room, the ambience and the food was on point, keep up the good work. I can’t wait for my next trip.

One does not expect a premium hotel to have floor areas with lingering smells of blocked sewage drains and breakfast service with burnt pastries. But this is what you get at Sun City Hotel, while paying a premium for the room. Staff sit on their phones watching social media, and appear bothered when you try to get their attention to assist you. It is really a pity to see how the place deteriorated. Be prepared to be woken up in the middle of the night to loud, drunk guests who do not consider that others are sleeping.

Sun City is a nice place for a family outbound with lot of water activities. The resort can look at reducing prices of hotel / water world activities.

I don't have words to explain myself especially about a room I was given. This was my first to be accommodated in level 3 of the hotel. I'm was really impressed by that room

Don't gamble at Sun City, it's a scam.
Every single machine, every single table, it's disgustingly bad.
