The Residence at Vila Porto Mare

Service very limited in this part of resort which is made of 3 hotels. Very clean, great breakfast with plenty of choice. Beautiful resort all in all, good facilities, older. but very well looked after.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7night stay at The Residence (30/8/25-5/9/25) and would definitely recommend.
The apartment was modern, clean, very roomy, bedroom, 2 bathrooms, lounge area, dining area, a very well equipped kitchen and balcony.
Staff were welcoming and friendly.
The gardens and pool area were absolutely beautiful and well maintained.
The hotel complex is huge and has everything you could possibly want or need but it is very easy to get disorientated and lost!

Madeira is a beautiful island we would definitely like to return.

Femte gang på Porto Mare. Residence er rigtigt flot og har meget høje standarder. Meget hjælpsomt personale. Vi måtte rejse hjem før tid, vi fik fuld refund fra hotellet. Meget imødekommende og professionelt. Kan varmt anbefale stedet. Vi kommer tilbage.

Sehr gepflegte Anlage, sehr freundliches Personal, sehr nett zu Kindern, im März waren aber überwiegend Senioren Gäste im Hotel. Können das Hotel aber uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen

We had a really nice view from our room of the beach below. The room was spacious and very clean. For me the bed was not very comfortable as I am a side sleeper and the mattress was fairly hard. It wasn’t really close to old town, so we had to get transportation back and forth.

Lovely resort. Studio apartment spacious and comfortable. Very good staff.

A 4 star superior hotel that offers 5 star service in all departments.

Great place. Two problems with our room: 1. It was at the farthest possible point from elevators/reception so didn’t enjoy entering and exiting with young children and luggage. 2. Ants! There are a LOT of them in the room. Don’t leave any food unopened anywhere.

Hotellet er meget smagfuldt indrettet og ligger i en yderst velholdt park med fri udsigt til havet. der er tale om førsteklssses lejligheder med alt hvad man kan ønske. Et minus var dog at buffetrestauranten åbenbart ikke var så populær mere, måske fordi personalet ikke længere var så serviceminded som tidligere. Det var også svært at lave mad i lejligheden uden at aktivere røgalarmerne.

Immaculately kept residence in a very good area with excellent transport links into Funchal centre. Very friendly and helpful staff and the rooms are very comfortable, spacious and have great views. The buffet breakfast was plentiful and delicious and the waiting staff were helpful and pleasant and the main pool and pool areas were spacious with plenty of sun beds available. Very enjoyable stay and we would love to return one day in the near future.

Travelled with toddler and the property is vast and has lots of things to do to keep them entertained. Good for families and close to the seafront.

We were upgraded to an apartment for our stay and although the accommodation was spacious and comfortable, the room was dark and the balcony was opposite a road which could be noisy at times.
Having said that, I would still recommend this hotel as a great place to stay but in our experience the accommodation upgrade was at the expense of the location of the room.

We had a nice stay here. Food was good and fresh and cooking personell very friendly. The rooms were also nice and clean. The service at the restaurant and reception could be improved however.

The hotel is great and can’t fault the staff, polite friendly and helpful. I did loose a day though because of a late easyJet flight also booked through Expedia. Alas it’s easier to talk to a brick wall than Expedia about this, not even sure they are real people might as well be BOTs, so next time will book direct with hotel and airlines.
