very nice place and good spot, would come back, although parking lot not amazing for larger vehicles

The staff called me at 7:30 pm the day of my reservation (while I was halfway between Santa Barbara and Santa Cruz, on my way driving) to tell me they didn't have my room. They said there was some maintenance problem. They offered no solution. After I insisted that it was absurd to call me without any alternatives, they offered to send me to a hotel at a different random town, they claimed all of Santa Cruz was filled (fake, Booking had several places available) and told me to call Booking. I didn't accept that, and they then in some way fixed the maintenance issue. So, I did end up getting a room. The hotel is horrible, not clean. What they tried to do with my reservation was completely absurd.

Right price, clean room, great staff 100% recommend
Pros:

I had a wonderful stay here! The proprietor was incredibly kind and welcoming — it made all the difference and gave the place such a personal touch. The room itself was spotless, comfortable, and had everything I needed. While the décor is a little dated, it actually added to the charm and was more than made up for by how clean and well-kept everything was. I slept really well and felt right at home. I’d absolutely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a cozy, friendly place to stay.

the staff was very friendly

Cons:

The balcony door did not lock and the elevator was not in service and I had a 3rd floor room. Additionally the door to the room did not have any additional lock other than the regular door handle lock.

I wish there was a vacuum or at least a dust pan or broom in the room. It got sandy. The lighting was bad. Bright & harsh white.

OK hotel if you're desperate for a budget option near the boardwalk
Pros:

The price couldn't be beat. Probably the least expensive in the area. The staff were friendly and accommodating. Beds were comfortable.

Cons:

Everything else left much to be desired. Room maintenance was very poor and lacked attention to detail: there was a rusted metal toilet paper holder, bare light bulb in the bathroom, sloppy paint job with strands of hair in in the paint and switch plates painted over, stained sheets, and a thick layer of dust on the hair dryer. Location was LOUD and I'm not sure why. Maybe windows are single pane?? We could clearly hear music playing from the cars driving by and people arguing on the sidewalk in front of the hotel in the middle of the night.
