My partner and I stayed at Bahia Principe Sunlight San Felipe on an all-inclusive package.
The hotel itself looked decent, the room was clean, and staff were friendly. We knew the jacuzzi and heated pool cost extra, but were surprised it was €50 per hour for two people and that the spa wasn’t actually part of the hotel. Annoying, but manageable.
The real issue was the food. It was, without exaggeration, the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had. I enjoy buffets and have very low standards when it comes to food — I rarely complain — but this was on another level. Choices were limited, and much of the food was simply inedible. Meat was undercooked or overcooked, either bland or excessively salty. Some dishes clearly seemed reheated multiple times: vegetables were mush, meat rock-hard, fish dry and tough. On several occasions I had to spit food out because it was impossible to chew.
We were offered one à la carte meal during our stay, which we hoped would be better. It was worse. The salmon was so hard I spat it out after one bite. We ended up going back to the buffet — which, unbelievably, was less bad by comparison.
After the first few meals, I survived mostly on chips — the only “safe” option. I’ve never eaten so little at a buffet; for the first time ever, meals felt like punishment rather than enjoyment. I dreaded every one but didn’t want to spend extra money after paying for all-inclusive.
There were also food safety concerns: missing or incorrect allergen labels and visible cross-contamination between gluten and non-gluten items.
Drinks were average at best — standard alcohol, cheap substitutes for branded soft drinks. Unfortunately, both my partner and I developed severe diarrhoea that lasted days after the trip, and I vomited once. I stopped drinking alcohol from day three.
Overall, this 4-star hotel was a major disappointment. While the facilities were average, the food completely ruined the experience. Our £1,000 all-inclusive holiday did not feel worth it, and it has genuinely put us off all-inclusive resorts in the future. I would strongly advise others to avoid.
Hotel is very dated but very clean food not great not much variety but you usually find something
Bar staff were very attentive entertainment was really good went and had a massage Maria was on her own that day but she was excellent and the massage she gave me was lovely and relaxing so well done Maria
The hotel staff at reception really not good as asked them if they could get some one to clean the smoking area as there was a lot of dirty plates and tumblers left lying around which was still there two days later but all in all had a good holiday anyway
Amazing and fun entertainment loved the acrobatic show. Lovely and spacious room with comfy beds and great staff that efficiently clean the room. Heated pool with fabulous bar staff. Blue and Eri did an amazing job and made the holiday special. 10/10. Enjoyed the food as many options each night. Snack bar by the pool was also great.

Everything about the facilities and the waiting staff.
Reception staff unhelpful, dismissive and couldn't wait to end conversations.
We stayed here for four weeks from 6 January to 3 February.
Everything about our stay was great. The reception staff were all very friendly and efficient. They were the best reception staff that we have encountered anywhere. The food in the restaurant was excellent and there was a very good variety of choices. The restaurant staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. As we went all inclusive we were able to use the à la carte restaurants twice a week. These were both excellent and we particularly liked the Italian restaurant. The food was great and the staff were all very friendly and efficient. The pool bar was great and it was nice to be able to get drinks and snacks throughout the day. The San Miguel beer was a bonus both in the pool bar and the bar. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Eri and Blue did a great job with the activities, although some of the equipment needs replacing. We didn’t use the bar much but on the few times that we did use it the drinks were served very promptly and the staff were always coming round. The evening entertainment was standard hotel stuff so we didn’t bother with it too much. The rooms were very spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. They are pretty dated and the showers aren’t great, but not a big issue. It was nice to find all the English tv channels were available. The cleaners did a great job and everything was spotless. The TUI rep was very competent and helpful. Everything was great about our holiday and we have booked again.
I Liked the great views of sea and Mount Teide. The suite was spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Staff very kind and helpful
Very few amenities in the room. The food was not the best.
We stayed for a week at the end of January in junior suite on principe floor. The room was very clean, spacious and comfortable if slightly tired. The sea view was spectacular with giant rolling waves and surfers to watch. Definitely not for swimming but might be possible in summer. The pool area was very well kept and the pool temperature comfortable. Activities like pilates, yoga and aqua fit are available from 9am with games suitable for children afterwards. Evening entertainment was good, singers and musicians were very good and the Canarian folk night good fun.
The staff were faultlessly pleasant and keen to help, cleaners, reception, waiting staff, entertainment, bar staff, all were excellent.
The location was good for views, walks, shops and restaurants and a wee uphill walk takes you to the Botanic Gardens.
Although our room was a little tired we didn't find any fault with the public areas- all were fresh and clean with beautiful statement floral displays.
We found the standard of the food to be mixed, sometimes very good and at other times not so. Made to order breakfast omelette was excellent. The main problem we found with the food was it was sitting after cooking for too long so temperature and quality then poor. The food cooked by chefs in the restaurant, other than omlettes at breakfast, was cooked and left rather than cooked freshly to order. If cooked to order people might have had to wait for a few minutes but the temperature and quality would be better.
We ate 2 nights at the Italian and Mediterranean restaurants included in all inclusive package. Both nights food and service were excellent.
All in all we had a good stay and would return because of such a positive experience of the staff.
A lovely holiday and so sad when it was over. I had a fantastic room and my balcony overlooked the wonderful pool and gardens and of course, Mt Teide. A sight to see every morning. The hotel served a good selection of food and the facilities were excellent. The staff was helpful and friendly. I would stay at the San Felipe again and I wish it was sooner rather than later.
