It is centrally located to restaurants and stores in the Old Port and also a short drive to the Maine Mall and area stores. We like having breakfast at the hotel. The valet parking is great.
Nothing
Excellent location, staff was very helpful, especially the valet attendants. Very clean, great restaurant right in the hotel.
Nothing negative to report
My wife and a friend were forced to miss their scheduled spa appointments due to unforeseen travel delays. When they arrived to explain the situation and request a reschedule, they were met with a front desk attendant who was dismissive and entirely unwilling to assist.
Despite the circumstances, the spa charged the full amount for both appointments. While I understand cancellation policies, there is a clear distinction between a "no-show" and a client arriving late due to an emergency, seeking a solution. We received zero flexibility and even less empathy.
Bottom Line:
* Service: The front desk spa admin person lacks the basic interpersonal skills required for a luxury hospitality environment.
* Policy: A total lack of grace regarding travel-related issues is short-sighted and unprofessional.
We will not be returning, nor do we recommend this establishment.
Location is amazing
Cleanliness was poor. We upgraded the room with hot tub and it was not clean. Side of to hut tub had mold and so many spiders in the room.
Vale service was not great.
What a great time we had here. The check-in experience was friendly and easy. Went for happy hour to the armory and saw Adam again who made us some fantastic drinks and the food was great along with the conversation with him. Later thatevening we went to the iron side bar to see the amazing Liz. We love her with her knowledge of bourbons and scotches and tequila. My place to have a great bourbon. Then onto breakfast. The next morning we were cheerfully greeted by Margaret and seated and waited on by john. We had a great breakfast and very attentive service. Would highly recommend this place to anybody. Even out front, we see the same Bellmen whose name is Christian and Mike, they were very professional and courteous. Great shuttle driver as well. See you guys again soon.
Food excellent, bed comfortable, service exceptional
Location and Reputation
Location, on-site spa, good dining and drink options
The room we stayed in felt really dated. Stained carpets, paint coming off the walls, no smart tv, musty smell. Bed and pillows were quite uncomfortable. Wish there was a clearer menu for room service.
When researching hotels in Portland, the Regency came up as highly recommended. I double checked with my buddy who knows the area well and he confirmed "They do things right at the Regency."
When we pulled up to the front door, we were immediately greeted by Andrew, the Valet Supervisor. He was so welcoming and friendly, took all of our luggage directly up to the room and parked our vehicle. Throughout our stay he and his crew, especially Tom, accommodated all our requests to move about Portland. Absolute legends!
At the front desk, Kyle and his staff provided Five Star customer service, answering any questions and making themselves available all weekend.
Overall, amazing hospitality and highly recommend. ~ Capt. Pete, Gloucester
The Portland Regency Hotel & Spa was an exceptional stay from start to finish. The historic charm paired with modern comfort makes it a perfect place to unwind in the heart of the Old Port.
A special shoutout to Liz, the bartender—she was outstanding. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, she made the bar feel like a destination of its own. Great conversation, perfectly made drinks, and top-notch service.
The spa amenities were a huge highlight. The jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna were immaculate and incredibly relaxing—exactly what you want after a day exploring Portland. It felt like a true retreat.
I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again. Fantastic staff, relaxing amenities, and a warm, inviting atmosphere. Highly recommend!
My recent stay at the Portland Regency hotel was, in a word, extravagant! The atmosphere of the hotel itself is so incredibly charming and the staff, from valet to concierge to restaurant hostess & waiters were incredible. They were all so very welcoming. I give them the highest marks for excellent service! The hotel is set in the Old Port section of town...cobblestone streets, lots of shops and great restaurants. My room was very comfortable & very clean. My room was very quiet. Nothing was left out for amenities! And it's the best value in town! I would highly recommend this hotel to any of the others in the vicinity. Plan a stay and you will see what I mean!! You will love the Portland Regency!!
We've been staying at The Regency for many years. The rooms are charming and comfortable, staff is pleasant and helpful, and the food and drinks are very good. I really love the art collection! The location can't be beat.
This is the best located hotel in Portland if you plan to eat out or walk the Old Port. It's less than 2 short blocks from the water and is within a few blocks of many of Portland's best restaurants and bars. They have a great cozy bar that the locals love as well as guests. The rooms are nicely appointed and comfortable with a modern feel that's comfortable and not stark. It's the perfect amount of classy great service without the usual stuffiness of ultra fancy hotels. Plus, it has a ton of history! Check out the pictures in the basement level hallway just outside the door of the Armory Lounge. I've been here 4 times and have always left feeling refreshed, well cared for, well fed and happy.
Our group recently stayed at the Portland Regency Hotel & Spa in Portland, Maine, for a work-related strategic planning retreat. Hotel staff were very helpful with the booking process, including meeting space, function services, and guest rooms. This hotel is a jewel of a property that is managed and staffed effectively, with a keen focus on hospitality the guest experience. We enjoyed the hotel’s beautiful onsite dining options, with top-level food and service. The full-service spa was also a wonderful feature. Great choice for leisure or business travel!
Friendly, welcoming staff in the heart of the Old Port, walking distance to all. The Armory Restaurant and Iron Side lounge with fireplace was absolutely perfect. We have visited Portland for many years and our stay here has always been fantastic and so many incredible memories.
