SpringHill Suites Memphis Downtown

SpringHill Suites by Marriott Memphis Downtown has the potential to be a great Marriott property, but there are several areas that need improvement.

When we checked into our suite, it was advertised as having two queen beds and a pull-out couch. However, the "pull-out couch" was actually a trundle bed. When we pulled it out, we found the mattress was dirty, there were Cheetos and a dirty sock on it, and even more Cheetos underneath the couch. It was obvious that this area had not been cleaned properly.

The room was also only stocked with one set of sheets and one blanket for the trundle bed. Since the room is advertised to accommodate more guests, there should have been two sets of sheets and two blankets available.

The bathroom ceiling vent was covered in dust. Every time the ventilation fan was turned on, dust blew into the air, which was unpleasant and made the bathroom feel unclean.

On our second day, we returned to our room to find that no clean towels had been left. Around 8:00 p.m., we were told the hotel was still drying towels before they could provide us with replacements.

The swimming pool was another disappointment. The water looked cloudy and dirty, so we didn't feel comfortable getting in.

Also the walls and furniture could be wipe down, in every room in the suite every wall had a stain that could easily be cleaned with a wipe down to be cleaned.

Despite these issues, I want to recognize the staff. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, polite, and genuinely tried to resolve our concerns as quickly as possible. Their customer service was appreciated.

My experience at the Springhill Suites by Marriott Memphis Downtown by far is the worst experience that I’ve encountered over the years of staying at hotels. We were in town for a family reunion ( 7/31-8/2) which the committee selected this location. Now with it being the Marriott name, I was excited and knew that my family and I would be in great hands however, this was not the case. Here are some pluses and minuses.

Pluses:

*Chris at the front desk was the only Employee that took ownership to address the situation.

*The Breakfast Staff that attended to the breakfast area was friendly and ensured that the food was hot and available.

*The Valet staff was exceptional and provided top-tier service with a smile.

Minuses

* In certain areas of the hotel there were AC challenges .. We were moved a total of 2 times due to the AC being inoperable. Now from my understanding from past hotel stays the room should’ve been pre inspected for readiness prior. We arrived at 2:30PM and did not successfully get into a room until 3:55 PM. There were no lobby carts therefore I had to continue to move my items from room to room.

* Definitely lack of communication in regards to how to get to each floor/room utilizing the elevators. I’m not a hotel employee therefore I do not know the ends and outs of which crossover elevator is needed. I came for a Family Reunion, not to be involved in a maze.

* Unprofessionalism observed during check in and overhearing profanity between employees within the hotel floors.

In life, we only have one opportunity to make a great first impression thereafter it’s just an impression.

Great location, friendly & helpful staff. Rooms were clean & comfortable. Valet parking was great, they were friendly & quick to respond.

Stayed here for a week as a Bonvoy Platinum, One of the benefits of Platinum and above is a guaranteed 4 pm late checkout. Asked for my late checkout, he told me that he could only do 2 pm because it is on a space available basis and they are sold out. Both of those are lies. For a Platinum or above, 4pm is guaranteed and they not only had rooms available, they had ten different categories of rooms available!! He approved 2 pm and said to check in the morning. In the morning, someone else approved 4 pm. When I asked him about it the next afternoon, he continued with the same lies and commented "You got it didn't you?". Why is someone like that working a front customer position? Also, the place is definitely showing it's age. Elevators are very slow and one of them "clunks" as it goes between the fourth and fifth floors. Ice machine on my floor did not work, There was a dimmer switch in the room that doesn't control anything. Valet was very slow compared to other hotels' valets in this area. I had a chance to stay here again and I am staying at the nearby Residence Inn instead due to my treatment at this hotel.

A bit expensive but worth it and a short walk to belle Street

The room and staff were very good. The pool and hot tub were also very good. The breakfast was pretty good. The location is walkable to Beal St. and directly on the historic Main St.

The best location !

When my wife and I first arrived and saw the parking lot of cars in the arrival area, we said OMG, what did we get ourselves involved with here.

There was only one young man working all these traffic jam of vehicles. Let me tell you, the way LaShun orchestrated the movement and warm welcome was something amazing. He truly made us feel relaxed and that our car was in good hands and safe.

The staff was kind and helpful. The pool was perfect for the kids after our days of exploring. The breakfast was great. And the location couldn't have been better!
