Luxury on the Big Island
Pros:

Excellent resort. Rooms were updated, nicely appointed and comfortable. Restaurants, particularly CanoeHouse, were excellent. Staff, particularly general manager, were inviting and very friendly. Highly recommend Mauna Lani for anyone seeking luxury stay on the Big Island

You’ll never want to leave
Pros:

Gorgeous resort. Everything is high quality, well maintained, convenient and comfortable. The staff are super friendly and accommodating. The food was great as well. Probably my favorite resort I’ve ever stayed at! My teenagers also never wanted to leave. They were well entertained and loved every aspect of the resort. Highly recommend!

Loved it and am Already Planning my Next Stay
Pros:

Great first experience at Auberge! The hotel is huge and includes all sorts of fun perks/amenities that are worth the price. The room itself was impeccably clean and was more of a suite as opposed to hotel room. All the staff were so nice and helpful. They genuinely seemed like they just wanted you to have a good time. Tip: they have washers and dryers to use there that are like what you have at home. Super convenient.

Amazing hotel. Highway robbery cocktail and drink prices. Overall a beautiful and relaxing stay.
Pros:

Hotel was beautiful. Amenities were a 10. Great gym, pool, golf and pickleball. Only downside was ridiculous prices for a drink. 28.00 for a well drink is excessive and feels honestly like robbery. People were bringing their ownin from outside. My suggestion is to lower to a more appropriate price and people will spend more on property.

Fun and Relaxing Stay
Pros:

We had another fun and relaxing stay at Mauna Lani. Our stay started off with some noise issues, but the team helped to resolve those by moving us to a new room. Thank you! The pools, beach, and restaurants are a highlight of the resort. Love the beach upgrades in the past year with the new chairs and beach club branded towels. I'd like to specifically recognize Pono, Savannah, Kaimani, and Prince for their excellent service and hospitality.

We did sadly have a rate issue with our stay booking through Amex FHR that went unresolved.

It was a relaxing and enjoyable stay, and we appreciate the excellent hospitality. Thank you to the team!

Absolutely Amazing
Pros:

This hotel is absolutely perfect. We chose this stay for our honeymoon and it was nothing short of perfect. I have never been to a place with better staff. The rooms are immaculate. We booked the backend few days of our trip at Turtle Bay and though nice we wished we would have done the entire trip at Mauna Lani. Overall 10/10. We will definitely be back and would recommend this spot to anyone. The restaurants, coffee shop, and amenities were all amazing. We could not recommend better and do not have a single fault to mention. Thank you for being the perfect spot to honeymoon and make amazing memories! -The Patcheck’s

True Hawaiian Experience
Pros:

The property is absolutely beautiful. The entire staff is the epitome of the aloha spirit. Food and drink are outstanding. The Sunrise Canoe Experience is exceptional. We want to give a special shout out to Kamu at the Surf Shack, Joe and Joel at the Canoe House Bar, and, of course, Uncle Danny and Aunty Anna.

The best
Pros:

Simply amazing. Wonderful property. Very relaxed and open architecture with great flow to the whole place. Beautiful snorkeling right off the beach. Seriously fabulous food. Very nice rooms.

Because it is only somewhat more expensive than other resorts on the island it is by far the best deal in terms of the experience you get. The service is truly excellent and thoughtful, the facilities look and feel luxurious and the vibe is everything you want in a relaxing and fun vacation.

This can be a truly special place to enjoy a special occasion or vacation, but we are unsure whether or not to return.
Pros:

Second stay at this property; returned because they offer extremely accessible casual and guided snorkeling options as well as beautiful grounds and historic fish ponds to explore.
We stayed for 7 days. We spent the majority of our stay in an ocean front suite which was perfect, with a soaking tub overlooking the beach and soothing sounds of the ocean. I didn’t want ever want to leave!
The resort grounds and design are gorgeous. Extremely dreamy and thoughtful atmosphere. The food is executed very well at HaLani, the Surf Shack, and of course at the adjacent Canoe House. The pools are beautifully designed. The addition of the swim up bar at the adults pool is fantastic. Drinks are creative and delicious.
The price point is elevated which is reflected everywhere at this resort except in the consistency and disposition of the staff. We had some less than stellar interactions. That being said, there are plenty of extremely helpful and joyful individuals. I need to note that I deeply enjoyed my conversations with Kaz and Angel at the front desk, Jason in the spa, and Jingle and Rio at HaLani, among countless others whose names I am disappointed to not remember.

Beautiful Mauna Lani
Pros:

Mauna Lani is a beautiful location and lush setting. The rooms were clean and a good size. The staff was friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for families (there were a lot of young children around, which is not for everyone). We appreciated the available experiences on site, the large pool, and the ease of the Market for food, snacks and drinks. The main issue we had was noise - we were woken up multiple times due to talking and television in the neighboring room even though the occupant was not loud. You feel the proximity of other people. Overall, we would consider returning for a family trip.

Nice stay
Pros:

Overall...great stay. Rooms are well appointed and renovated. Great resort for families. Would have been nice to take our adult kids to the adult pool for more serenity. The kids pool wad very loud. Canoe House was ok and very pricey, but that’s Hawaii. Land of the $24 drink.

Pros:

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ An Exceptional Experience Unlike Any Other Resort in Hawaii

Our stay at Mauna Lani was truly unforgettable and, without question, one of the most special experiences we’ve ever had in Hawaii.

We travel to Hawaii regularly and have stayed at many beautiful resorts over the years, but this was the first time we’ve ever felt such a genuine sense of community, warmth, and love throughout an entire property. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Mauna Lani is something truly special.

What impressed us most was the culture among the staff. Time and time again, we witnessed employees greeting each other with hugs, checking in on one another, and interacting like family rather than coworkers. You could genuinely feel how much they enjoyed their jobs, and that positivity radiated throughout the entire resort. It’s impossible to fake that kind of environment, and it elevated every aspect of our stay.

The property itself is absolutely stunning. Every detail feels intentional, from the beautifully landscaped grounds to the open-air design that perfectly embraces the natural beauty of the Big Island. The resort somehow feels both luxurious and relaxed at the same time. It never felt crowded, rushed, or overly commercialized. Instead, it felt peaceful, authentic, and welcoming.

The beach was another highlight, especially for families. The protected cove was ideal for snorkeling, with calm waters that allowed us to comfortably explore the incredible marine life. We saw colorful fish right from shore, and the conditions were perfect for both adults and children. It was one of those rare beaches that feels equally exciting and safe for everyone.

For families with kids, Mauna Lani truly shines. There were so many activities available that our children were constantly entertained without feeling like they were participating in overly scheduled “resort programs.” The entire environment encourages families to unplug, explore, and simply enjoy being together.

One of the things we appreciated most was how easy it was to slow down and be present. Whether we were enjoying coffee in the morning, walking the property, snorkeling at the beach, or simply relaxing and taking in the scenery, every moment felt intentional and restorative.

Luxury properties are easy to find, but finding one with a true heart and soul is incredibly rare. Mauna Lani has mastered both. It delivers exceptional service and beautiful accommodations while also creating an atmosphere that feels deeply personal and connected.

What sets Mauna Lani apart isn’t just the stunning setting or the amenities—it’s the people. The culture they’ve created is something other resorts should aspire to. By the end of our stay, we didn’t just feel like guests; we felt genuinely cared for.

We will absolutely return, and without hesitation, this has become one of our favorite places in all of Hawaii. Thank you to every team member who made our family feel so welcome. You have created something truly extraordinary.

Luxury, Hospitality, and Incredible Family Activities
Pros:

Our family had one of our favorite Hawaii vacations at Mauna Lani. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. We were warmly welcomed, escorted to our room, and felt genuinely cared for throughout our stay.

The resort itself is beautiful, with spacious accommodations, gorgeous grounds, and excellent dining. CanoeHouse was outstanding, and we also loved Surf Shack and the in-room dining.

One of the biggest surprises was how many activities were included with the resort fee. We played tennis, pickleball, stand up paddleboarding, snorkeling, and the Wiki Wiki golf course, all of which added so much value to our stay. Our kids especially loved the pools and beach, making this a fantastic resort for families.

A special thank you to Miho, who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. Her warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality truly set the tone for an exceptional experience.

We left already looking forward to our next visit. If you're considering a stay on the Big Island, I would highly recommend Mauna Lani.

Beautiful resort
Pros:

Beautiful resort with friendly staff! We enjoyed the special touches like the lei greeting, pog , and cold towel upon arrival. It was our anniversary and we had chocolate dipped strawberries that greeted us in our room. Enjoyed the beach and seeing a sea turtle in its natural habitat. The food at Canoehouse and HaLani were delicious and was delicious, but it was nice to be able to walk to Foodland too. We will return!

Terrible management and roach in the room
Pros:

The hotel has a great ambiance, and the staff I interacted with were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, those positives were overshadowed by two serious issues that made this stay very disappointing.

First, there was a cockroach in the bathroom. For a hotel at this price point and star rating, basic cleanliness should not be an issue.

Second, the hotel’s handling of planned maintenance was unacceptable. The hotel was installing solar panels on the roof and required all guests on the 6th floor to vacate their rooms from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This was clearly a planned project, yet guests were only notified one day in advance.

We were checking out that day and had planned to pack in the morning, so being told we could not use our room during those hours created a major inconvenience. The option to temporarily move to another room was only offered after we specifically asked.

This wasn’t an emergency repair—it was scheduled work. Management had plenty of opportunities to handle it better: notify guests before arrival, disclose it at check-in, or simply stop selling rooms on the affected floor for that day. Instead, the burden was placed on paying guests to adjust their plans at the last minute.

While the front-line staff did their best, the lack of planning and communication from management fell far below what I would expect from a 4-star hotel.

Perfect for families
Pros:

One of my favorites. This hotel is the perfect setup for kids and parents. From the daily schedule of activities, bike rental, kids club, open space next to bar and restaurant for kids to run around, everything is great. They could add one or two more restaurants, but other than that, loved it.

Pros:

Beautiful setting, great service and dining options, nice and quiet adult pool, healthy reef with beach access for snorkeling. Lots of young families, not too busy in June. Typically go to Maui, but I would return to the Auberge!

Great stay with kids
Pros:

We booked on Amex platinum and thought the value was great for the money
We never left the area during our 5 night stay.

The room was excellent and they had a nice welcome gift for our son.

The inroom dining was surprisingly fast. The room was cleaned 2x daily. They have free laundry machines which was excellent

We sent our son to the kids camp 1 morning - we were very nervous but he had a great time.

We booked the tennis court, went for yoga, got snorkel kits, rode bikes - lots of amenities. We even took the convertible around.

Concierge was not as helpful as we would like. Valet and self-park are the same price. in retrospect we should not have gotten a rental car at all

We took the shuttle to tommy bahama for a lunch.

Overall the food and drinks were great , the breakfast was fantastic in particular (not the buffet but from the menu). We would have liked to see more vegetarian friendly food options.

The store was great to get icecream/beer etc

The hotel design is pretty good - u never have to walk too much

they had a fun area to watch the soccer games.
