Great value place to stay in Rosedale
Pros:

We were staying to attend a wedding nearby so arrived pre-check-in time to collect our keys. Despite a power cut, the staff were friendly and helpful, serving us sandwiches and providing an out of the way place to get changed.
Location is excellent for walking in/around Rosedale or for a wedding at Danby Castle, and has great views over the valley.
Breakfast was buffet style, with freshly cooked hot food.
Rooms were fairly small but had everything we needed

Cons:

Only a little thing - bedroom floor was rather creaky!

Great stay and will go back!
Pros:

The location more or less at the start of Chimney Bank but only 6 minutes walk from the centre of the village up the hill can't be any better as the views from the front of the inn are just superb. Staff were very attentive and you couldn't get any friendlier people. Breakfast very good.

We will not be staying again, we actually left a day early
Pros:

The Location

Cons:

The carpets in hallways (dog hairs everywhere) were dirty, same in room. Didn't seem to be anyone in charge as in manager or owner, just different ladies running on their own.
Breakfast the first day was not hot, but was the next time we tried. There was no gluten free option as in bread for breakfast.
We had a drink in the bar but the glasses didn't look ilke they had even been washed.

Pros:

Stunning views, great location, very friendly team, good value for money.

Very hot day on arrival - room could have been cooler/cooled a little in anticipation of our arrival. No fan in room, so it was a hot night.

Disappointing stay in a stunningly beautiful area.
Pros:

This place has an amazing view over Rosedale Abbey. Quite an imposing old building up above the village. Food on offer was good and the drink selection at the bar was fine. Bedroom was a good size but the bathroom is explained below...

Cons:

Initially we were given a room which after accepting (it was initially ok) we found that we could not lock the door properly, sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Staff were contacted and 'tried' the lock, again it only partially worked. We were asked if we wanted to stay in the room and we said no. After a short while we were given an equivalent room in an annex building around the back. The room itself was fine but the bathroom was tiny, wholly inadequate in my opinion at around 5ft x 5ft. You couldn't open the door any more than half way as it collide with the shower, just one of the problems in this small space! However we stuck with it.
On our second full day in the early afternoon we came back after a long walk to find that we couldn't get IN to our room, you could clearly see the lock was in the partially locked position and you couldn't insert a key! As the place didn't open until 3pm, we went for another shorter walk and returned to get help. To be fair, the staff were very quick and with a few tools we were in our room again after 5 minutes.
Finally, we weren't too happy that our evening meal was around 80 minutes from table time to leaving for just one course. Sorry but that's not good enough! Also, we weren't the only one's to complain although the reason for their complaint in unknown.
The last point may be explained by the realisation that this place appears to run on a shoestring of manpower.
