Travelodge by Wyndham San Antonio Downtown Northeast

The price and location is good.

I have traveled all over the world and stayed in numerous hostels and hotels of all quality levels. My stay this week at the Travelodge in San Antonio Downtown Northeast was a new one to me. First, the reservation I made through hotels.com was messed up. It allowed me to book a room to sleep 6 people, but there were not places to sleep for those 6 people. The pictures on the hotel site suggested that the room I was reviewing had two beds in it plus a sleeper sofa, so enough for 6. It did not, and there were no rooms whatsoever in the hotel that slept 6. So, we were forced to book another room, and pay the full room charge plus the room deposit of $100 twice. The clerk on duty (last name Patel) was completely unhelpful. I gave him multiple opportunities to comp the room, offer a discount, something. Nothing. He would tell me that a room would work for my needs after I said I needed 6 to sleep, and I would go look at it and it wouldn’t be right. This happened over and over.

Other issues:

- Cockroaches — I killed a German cockroach in room 109. Where there’s one, there’s a lot more.
- Dirty toilet seat in room 109… it looked like someone had been perching on it with muddy feet. I told the clerk about it and he did nothing as far as I know. Said he’d talk to the cleaning service, which I guess maybe came the next day?
- Attitude of front desk clerk was terrible. Not mean, just completely disconnected and not wanting to lift a finger to help. Honestly, everyone I interacted with at the hotel seemed petrified of management which kept them from being helpful to customers.
- I asked about breakfast. Even though the site said they had a breakfast bar and it was listed among amenities, there was no breakfast. The clerk said they had a coffee machine, but neglected to tell me it only served decaf (!) and bad decaf at that.
- Our kids brought their swimsuits anticipating the pool that was shown in the pictures. The pool was green with algae and unusable.
- The Ice machine was broken too, and honestly it started feeling like a bad comedy.

Really, everything started feeling almost insulting at this point. It’s like the people who run this place don’t care about amenities and are looking to run it into the ground. Like they inherited a better hotel and when things break no effort is made to fix them and no effort is made to maintain anything. And that’s what made the difference to me. I’ve traveled the world and stayed in “lower quality” hotels and hostels, but the people running them seemed to care at least a little and were making the best with what they had to offer guests. And that’s was fine. This place felt different. We never felt welcome.

I will say this: at least it’s (mostly) clean and the ac works. That’s something. It’s just that everything is broken and it doesn’t appear it will be fixed.

We left disappointed and will not be returning to a Travelodge again anywhere if it can be helped. I would suggest you check on the management of this particular hotel, how they treat their employees and their guests. There is something really wrong there.

ROCH MOTEL. ROCHES EVERYWHERE! CARPETS DIRTY AND NASTY TO STEP EVEN WTIH SOCKS. SHEETS STAINED. PILLOWS STAINED. TOOK PICTURES OF ROCHES. ITS INFESTED! ICE MACHINE DOES NOT WORK. THEY DO NOT SERVE BREAKFEAST LIKE THE AD STATED. ROCHES EVERYWHERE!
