The staff
We LOVED our stay at El Rey. Cool Sante Fe vibes, friendly staff, great food and a home-y room that felt more like a home or apartment than a hotel. Can't wait to stay here again.
Lovely clean room with vintage decor. Good value. Quiet and tranquil. I appreciated the garden area outside my room, and the various outdoor seating areas around the compound. Although on a main drag, the grounds are peaceful and relaxing.
We had a wonderful stay at El Ray for two nights in March 2026. The staff were welcoming, check-in was easy, and our room was perfect. The grounds are well maintained and our room had a fireplace, with wood stocked each day. The bar is stylish and has excellent cocktails, and there was live music one night during our stay, which was great. We would absolutely stay again!
The best stay in Santa Fe…..we visit often and always look to the El Rey as our first choice. The rooms and the service are second to none…..beautiful property with nothing left to desire.
I booked through expedia at a quoted price charged to me card. When later reconciling my card, I found an unexplained charge from the hotel. I called and they explained that it was an "amenity fee" not charged by expedia. I explained how I was not told about that charge and asked for it to be removed. They did. Don't pay "amenity" or "resort" fees. These are charges for nothing as a dishonest attempt to increase revenue. The hotel will tell you that everyone charges it - and they will until we refuse to pay it. Don't!
The overall vibe at this hotel is funky and approachable. The decor is a nice blend of retro and modern touches within an old school motor lodge.
Favorites: Quaint pueblo charm, terrific bar.
Not-favorites: Bathroom could use updating.
We stayed only one night in late February on a small road trip across New Mexico. We stayed in the Courtyard at the back of the property, which was wonderfully peaceful with birds chirping in the trees in the morning. Our room had a fireplace which was romantic but made the room VERY toasty. There weren't really instructions on how to use all of the switches for the fireplace and its fan, so that's a little on us. The pueblo design makes for a rustic old-west vibe, but the bathroom was a bit dated. Overall satisfactory for a one-night stay, but the fan didn't seem to help much with shower moisture and the fixtures were very old.
Since we were only one night, we didn't get to try any amenities except for the bar, La Reina. It was fabulous! We tried several of their well-crafted cocktails. Great drinks, cozy fireplaces both inside and outdoors. It seemed like somewhat a neighborhood bar but also gave a nostalgic feeling of "travelers passing through" as there were several other guests there trading stories of where they came from and where they were going next. Would stay again.
Tasteful simple rooms with comfortable beds.
No housekeeping service came while I was there 3 days.
The hotel was charming, clean and the staff was friendly. It was a short drive to many of the restaurants and galleries as well as a few hiking trails. We had an wonderful trip and the El Rey Court was a perfect place to stay!
Such a unique hotel. Reminiscent of the 60s but modernized. The bar is a must! I loved the atmosphere, vibe and service! 10/10
Location is in a busy area & the room was very loud with road noise. The room was clean but felt dingy due to the need for updating. We did not have hot water for more than 24 hours. The pillows were very small and uncomfortable and we did not have any linens for the kitchenette area. The lobby bar was very nice and the cocktails were delicious but the bartender was a bit rude & service was slow with it being busy and only 1 staff member. The hot tub area was a no-go. It was run-down, in a dark corner, and VERY small. The greenhouse was CUTE! I loved that & the overall vibe of the hotel but much work needs to be done to make it an enjoyable stay.
