Excellent hotel staff makes for an excellent stay
Pros:

It's a bit off the beaten path, about a 25 minute walk from the Unita train station. This is not a bad thing, as you walk out the door and are not greeted by the rush of people walking by. As other reviewers write, if you want to sleep in a bit of history, this is probably the right place, with some of the original frescoes still intact. But for me, the staff really made our stay in Florence enjoyable. They were friendly, attentive, and prompt. They happily carried our bags up the stairs. They greeted us in the morning for breakfast. They got us (Americans :) ice when we wanted it. My partner needs an electric fan to sleep and they happily accommodated that request. When we checked in, the staff member asked us if this was our first time and when we said yes, she opened up a map and highlighted where everything was relative to our hotel. And even though we had booked a junior suite, we got upgraded to a full suite. All of this is to say that the staff made us feel very welcome and special.

Unusual, but very good.
Pros:

This hotel must be unique. It's in a building which is reputed to be over 500 years old, and retains many of the original features and atmostphere. This is in some ways this makes it great for a stay in the historic city of Florence, and its location is ideal for visiting many of the attractions on foot. The age of the building does detract a little if what you want are all the conveniences of modern Hotel (there are no lifts and narrow winding stairs to the upper floors for example.)
The room we had was comfortably furnished in a style in keeping with the building and the bathroom excellent. Mini bar, wifi and other services very good although the TV had no access to English speaking channels. Due to the architecture, a little dark.
The staff were exceptional, always welcoming and very helpful and made our short stay most enjoyable.
Breakfast was pretty standard continental but good in the small dining room. Unfortunately the weather was bad during our stay, as there is a very attractive open courtyard which must be idylic in better conditions.
In summary the Hotel is small, welcoming, and full of atmostphere, well located for a short stay. "Historic House" describes it perfectly.

An "interesting" place to stay
Pros:

Given the choice between a standard hotel and something different, we opted for the latter. It was . . . interesting. This hotel was once a convent. The location is excellent, the staff outstanding, breakfast delightful, but the room we got . . . not so great. We are given a room at the top of the hotel (third floor). We walked up two flights of stairs, followed a hallway that took us outside on a wide catwalk and then back inside to climb another flight of steep stairs that stopped at the door to our room (no landing). (Fortunately, one of the staff members was carrying our bags.) Upon entering the room, we were impressed: large, nicely furnished, a little tired, but not shabby. And then we noticed the bathroom -- off to the side, three steps down. This could be a problem if you get up in the middle of the night, but easily solved by leaving the bathroom light on all night to remind us of the steps. I checked for another room, but the only one available was quite dreary. So, we decided to stay in the top room. But the next day we discovered a mild but noxious smell emanating from somewhere in the bathroom. Everything was clean (housekeeping was excellent) but the odor, confined to the bathroom, was definitely there. Since we spent little time in the room and, as noted, the smell was in the bathroom and we were staying only two nights, we did not make an issue of it. The good things about the place were the staff ever-helpful and smiling staff, the excellent breakfast (and a welcome drink when we arrived), and a prime location. The cost of the room seemed a little excessive for what it was, but then we really didn't check competing prices. Bottom line, you could do better with another hotel, but you could also do a lot worse.

Historic Visit to Florence
Pros:

J and J Hotel is a great boutique hotel a few blocks from Santa Croce and The Duomo on a quiet street. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The bed is comfortable, and there are an assortment of pillows. The bathroom was very nice, spacious, and clean. We stayed in a very spacious suite. It was a great place to relax after several hours of touring the city. Breakfast is included, and it has great hot and cold selections, including espresso and cappuccino.

NIGHTMARE!! Its a lie!!
Pros:

Compare the pictures to the web

- Tell me if this is a room for 3 (suposed to be a junior suite!!! Not an standard room!! So i cant imagine how an stardard room was...

- tell me if this is to pay 390€/night
- You dont have wardrobe
- look at the Window views PLEASE!!

See the pictures and read (dont go! Is horrible!)

When you complain they tell you they dont give your money back and that you cant talk to the director

A blonde woman in de reception desk i think her ñame was rebeca, told me that if i wanted to write a letter to the director she would break it in peaces just in the minute i would leave!!

We lost 900euros and they were so rude!!

Cosy place
Pros:

Located just about 300-400 yards from the Doumo, sits on a very quiet street (opposite the police station) but next to the busy street with loads of cafes, restaurants and shops - this was the perfect location for our week in Florence! Very friendly multilingual staff, nice fresh breakfast and delicious coffee every morning, bar at evenings - anything to accommodate a nice stay.
Our room was with clean on-suit, large bed and other convenient futures including a safe. There was a door to the small courtyard with plants and tables as well.
We had clean fluffy towels every day and bedding swap in a middle of the week too.
The building apparently is XVI century monastery converted in a hotel and you will see some historical futures left once you enter.
Lovely place, we really enjoyed the stay!
Thank you

Not as expected
Pros:

The room was very disappointing. It did not meet our expectation. It is not what I would expect from a 4 star hotel (we normally stay at 4 star hotels during our trips and we are used to better rooms) .The furniture looked old and worn. The bed made noises with every movement and the mattresses were uncomfortable. Breakfast was also poorly (small selection and not very appealing presentation of food - cheese and sausage were served on wooden plates and didn't look appetizing. The cups were partly chipped on the edges).

Central with amazing rooms. Fab
Pros:

We booked a “standard room” and were given what can only be described as the penthouse. But when I checked other rooms - they were similar. It’s a 10 minute walk west to the Duomo in a great location. No it’s not snazzy; no restaurant etc. But, when you come to explore and eat out and see the sights who cares. Breakfast is fine, the clientele middle aged like us, it’s quiet and such a beautiful place. In the hurly burly of museums and galleries it is perfect. Lovely staff too. We have loved it.

Beautiful room
Pros:

We stayed in one of the suites, and it was wonderful - high ceilings, great layout and decor, great atmosphere overall. The location is good, a short walk to lots of the most beautiful spots. The property is nice and was a good respite from the heat when we came back for a quick stop. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was decent but not out of this world, very nice coffee though. This was one of our mini-moon destinations and we were very happy with it, very romantic.
The only downside was the floor vibrated a bit when the upstairs guests were walking around -- historic wood building -- but didn't really impact sleeping and it was a clean, quiet room. I guess there were a few steps to climb to get to the room, but that was totally fine for us.

The only other downside which has nothing to do with the hotel but worth noting is bringing a car into the Traffic-Limited-Zone (ZTL). Definitely a pain, definitely try to map your route in properly because Google maps may lead you astray.

Exceeded expectations in Firenze!
Pros:

Wow! Where to start? We had an amazing experience in this hotel.

Our group
We are traveling with our two adult sons aged 25 & 22.

Arrival
We arrived to Firenze by train and walked to the hotel in about 25 minutes. The hotel is just a couple of blocks past the Cathedral of Santa María del Fiore in a beautiful quiet street.

Check-in
We were greeted by Martina in the lobby/reception. It is a beautiful historical building and very tastefully decorated. She was very nice and registered us promptly. She gave us a city map and some recommendations for some things that we needed. She also got us an electrical current adapter to charge our phones which was very helpful and appreciated.

Our rooms
Who got two rooms next to each other on the ground floor in the rear. Our sons stayed in the larger of the two with two single beds and a bathroom with separate bathtub and shower. Both rooms were very, very nice. At least, to our taste. The beds were all very comfortable and as this was our first city in our trip, having a good nights sleep was essential. Both rooms had access to a rear terrace where we had a two tables and chairs, one table with a nice umbrella. This terrace was very nice with plants and a great view of this old building that used to be a monastery.
All the plumbing worked perfectly and rooms were very clean. We had a safe in each room as well as a minibar reasonable priced.

Breakfast
There is an indoor area as well as an adjoining exterior patio with tables and umbrellas. Both very nice. The staff was extremely nice. To start, a big smile. Great coffee which I took to the room both mornings to start the day. They gave me a nice tray to take them to the room. The breakfast was a set buffet with a great selection of cheeses and cold cuts, yogurt, fruits, breads and pastries, scrambled eggs and bacon. You could also order custom eggs. Three different juices were also offered as well as milk. The quality of everything was very good along with the five star service from the staff.

Location
Perfect! Two blocks away from the main area make a huge difference in that it is very quiet. And very safe! Everything within walking distance. A couple of blocks away in the nicest plaza we found our favorite restaurant: Il Ghibellinni.

Final Resume
The building, the rooms, the food and above all the service was fantastic. It hurt to leave! We definitely will stay here next time and highly recommend you try it.

A slice of Tuscan tradition
Pros:

In the days running up to our trip we were a little nervous as we had read some negative reviews about the hotel.
But it was clear, once we arrived, that we had nothing to worry about.
We were welcomed by the reception staff who explained that our room was on the ground floor (phew! As I am nearly 6 months pregnant!) and we were given a map, detailing some recommended places to visit. A lovely touch from the staff.
We were then shown through the courtyard to our room (Room 2) and given a quick run down of all the features in our room - including air conditioning, a mini fridge and TV. The room is a lovely courtyard room with stone floors and a marble en suite with traditional Tuscan design. I can't even begin to explain how comfortable the bed was!
During our stay, nothing was too much effort from the staff. We forgot a power adapter and the lovely man at reception disappeared off and retrieved one for us to borrow. One morning we had an early rise for a tour of Tuscany so would miss our included breakfast, but the staff were happy to make us a coffee to go and told us to help ourselves to pastries and fruit already laid out. Information and taxis were also easy to gain by asking at reception.
The building is a converted convent/monastery and so is cool and dark in places but perfect in the summer months and for those wanting a real flavour of tradition.
I felt that the only thing that let our stay down was the breakfast. The chocolate brioche were lovely, along with the orange juice. But I found the spread a little lacking and nothing exciting. It wasn't terrible, but it was just ok.

I can't quite fathom some of the previous negative comments I read. There was no smell of smoke or noise from other guests (we were staying in a room off the courtyard which would surely be the noisest place), the room and hotel were perfectly clean and well looked after and the air conditioning working very well. I can't speak for rooms on other floors but we were really pleased with our stay and would certainly recommend the hotel to others!

All around good stay
Pros:

Stayed here for 5 night and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The free breakfast was very nice. The staff are great and can speak English which helped because I'm Irish. They were on hand to give me any information I needed to enjoy my stay in Florence and I owe a lot of thanks to them for my wonderful stay.
Would recommend

Beyond dissatisfied
Pros:

So I booked this for two nights for my wife and I. It was our first getaway without our kids in a long while. I booked the most expensive room they had with the intention of getting a room with a nice tub, a nice porch for us to relax on and what not. When we got to our room it had neither of those amenities. What it did have was stains, smell, and overall looking like it needed some real cleaning.

When they switched us to a room with a tub and porch (real small and useless) that room had real week AC and anytime we would walk or the people above us, the entire room would shake.
Our bathroom as well was unventilated and was hot like a sauna.
Overall I would never stay here again and not recommend it to anyone.

NOt really what I expected
Pros:

We have been given a very shabby room, originally we were given room nr 6 but when we wlaked in it was soooo smelly of smoke we could hardly breathe. At the reception they said it is forbidden to smoke in all rooms but sometimes happens... right I understand that but why the housekeeping team did not do anything to make the smell go away ? why did they not even open the windows? why did they not advise the front desk about the smelly room ?
In exchange we have been given room nr 20 with the guarantee that is was the same category of room 6 .... not a chance in the world....!!! Room 20 is a shack, all walls are dirty and very badly maintened, yello spots bbelow the a/c system, dirty floor (my white socks where black in 2 minutes), tiles in the bathroom falling apart ... really nothing like the beautifull pictures of the rooms you see on the web.

Bar & restaurant are cozy, pretty nice corner I must admit....
breakfast wasn't bad although scrambled eggs and bacon were really cold and there were just leftovers but it was a good 20 minutes before the closing time, with no refill available.

Not sure I would ever go back to this hotel, the room assignation and the front desk staff pretending it was the same category really disappointed me...
I sleep in hotels approximately 80/100 nights a year, of all categories ... problems arise all time but the difference is really made from HOW you face problems.

Really Enjoyed Our Stay
Pros:

I stayed in room #1 in the courtyard. I was with a group and all of the rooms are different, each one unique. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very nice and clean. They all have A/C but if it's a large room (esp. with a loft) it may not seem as cool as the smaller ones. We loved having drinks in the courtyard and lounge. The breakfast was enjoyable and offered something for everyone. It's located a great location in a quiet area. I would recommend for singles, couples, families and groups.
