I’ve been staying at this hotel long-term and have spent thousands of dollars over the last few months, so I expected at least the most basic amenities. Unfortunately, we went multiple days with no hot water, which meant no showers and no ability to properly take care of basic hygiene.
What made the situation worse was the lack of urgency and accountability. We were repeatedly told the issue would be fixed “soon,” yet days passed with no resolution. Communication was vague at best, and the attitude from staff was dismissive rather than helpful.
Despite not having hot water, we were still charged for those days. While the hotel did reduce the nightly rate, the reality is that there should not have been any charge at all for time spent without a basic, essential service. Hot water isn’t an upgrade or a perk—it’s a minimum standard. Discounting a stay without it doesn’t make the situation acceptable.
To make matters worse, we were told not to worry about it because we were paying a corporate rate, which implies that some guests are expected to tolerate substandard conditions. That mindset is unacceptable.
If this situation had been handled transparently, professionally, or with proper compensation, this review might be different. Instead, the experience highlighted poor communication, weak customer service, and a failure to take guest concerns seriously.
I would strongly caution anyone considering a stay here—especially for long-term accommodations.
it was fine
Clean, great food too
The carpet was dirty and stained.
Bathroom good and bed was good. Amenities are dated and old.
There is no elevator to a lot of the rooms, not convenient for hauling luggage up metal outdoor stairs.
The Balcony overlooked the parking lot of the hotel next door. The AC unit sits on the balcony, when it runs, it is hard to talk to the person beside you.
The breakfast had no hot food.
The elevator needs work. We got stuck in it twice.
Great area
Property is a little outdated but uber clean & the staff was very nice & efficient! I would definitely stay here again!
We stayed here many years ago and thought it would be a good place to stay in Charlevoix. We were very disappointed. The hotel is in need of renovation. The bathroom was ridiculous! The whirlpool tub had no step to get into it and was hip high! Needless to say we did not use it. The bathroom sink was tiny. The toilet room had cracked tiles and I found a used cotton puff by the toilet. The doors to the balcony were incredibly hard to open. I had to have my husband open them. The windows were dirty. The view was nice but not what we expected. We were supposed to be on the third floor with a great view but the elevator was broken and I have a bad knee and could not do 3 flights of stairs. Thus we were given a room by the broken elevator. The staff was very courteous however. The cleaning staff said the elevator is often broken. The best thing about the hotel is the proximity to the shops and restaurants.
We reserved a room with two beds, a wonderful view, and in the building with the elevator (spouse is handicapped). The elevator was down, and we were moved to the ground floor with one bed and no view. The room had heavy cobwebs in the corners, inside the lampshades, and sliding door area. We were supposed to stay three nights but only stayed two nights. We weren't offered a partial refund or anything. The area around the Weathervane is lovely. It is walkable if you have no mobility limitations.
The Weathervane has a great location. The rooms are older but comfortable. They could do a little better job cleaning. There were cob webs in almost every corner and in the light fixtures,
Rooms were dated and overpriced. The carpet in the room was filthy and disgusting.
Overall the location is great, the beds and cleanliness is good. The rooms are big and the tv is tiny.
My only complaint is the sound proofing between rooms connecting doors, you can hear everything and it is noisy , I had to switch rooms
The room was great, but, not cleaned thoroughly. Not dusted. Microwave dirty.
Breakfast food and area, not goo. Stale food and dirty.
It was nice but needs some updating
Loved the restaurant
Carped dirty. The property needs some care. Shows it age. When we arrived I was told the elevator was out of order. I had called and asked about elevators for the room we were reserving as my wife recently had knee surgery. After expressing the problem they did get us a room on ground floor and took &12 off the premium room we had reserved.
Clean, Comfy and Convient
Unique design.
It is an old property with a great location, and the ambiance of a roadside motel.
The bathroom vanity had limited space. View was very nice of Lake Michigan.
