Location about the best in Huatulco, lowest density of all the hotels we saw, above all, great staff: friendly, helpful, eager to please.
Property itself needs care and attention. Showing its age.
This is an older, established hotel with beautiful rooms, elegant dining, beautiful beach and pool area. We had a suite with a terrace and private pool. It was comfortable for an extended stay (11 days) and the view from the room was exceptional. The staff at the hotel is attentive and provides excellent service. The restaurant a comfortable fine dining experience. One caution, there are many steps at the property so if you are not mobile this may not be the place for you. Hotel offers a shuttle service from the lobby to the Pool and Beach area. If you want to enjoy Huatulco and be away from the crowds this is the place to be.

Easily one of the best hotels in Huatulco. I love that it's small and couple-oriented. Low season is just beginning so I got to enjoy kid-free facilities (a must for me, since I'm a single, solo traveller). My suite had a jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. The beds are incredibly comfy: I had the best sleep I've had in ages. Staff could not be any more attentive & efficient. Would no doubt book here again if I return to Huatulco.
There are some aspects that might make the property more competitive. I'm aware Quinta Real is a luxury brand, but the price for food and drinks is excessive, even for five-star hotel standards. Food is only adequate (far from delicious), so there's definitely a disconnect between the price and the actual food. Access to the beach club and the pools from the suites is inconvenient since the property is built on a hill. To mitigate this, the hotel has readily available transport, but even getting to a point where they can pick you up takes some time. Finally, the water temperature, both in the rooms and the in the pool was unacceptable: the jacuzzi and the shower had lukewarm water only, which isn't great if you're going to use the jacuzzi, and the pools aren't heated at all, so you can't really swim comfortably. All of this, however, didn't prevent from having a nearly perfect stay.
Very spacious resort with good amenities. Amazing view and well nestled into nature. You see and hear a lot of birds.
Outdated and requires maintenance and repairs.
We really enjoyed our stay at Quinta Real Huatulco. The room was spacious and comfortable, and overall the experience does feel like staying at a five-star luxury hotel. The pool is wonderful, the vegetation is lush, and the property feels like a true paradise. The setting is beautiful, peaceful, and very relaxing.
The staff was generally very kind and welcoming, and small touches like being invited to feed the iguanas added a unique and charming experience. The food is delicious, and the atmosphere delivers a high-end resort feeling.
The air conditioning could be better, especially given the climate.
Food prices are extremely high for Huatulco — easily two to three times more expensive than eating outside the hotel. While the food quality is good, the pricing feels excessive for the destination and makes dining on property feel unreasonable for a resort stay.
We upgraded to a private suite with a pool, but the pool lost water every day, which points to maintenance issues. Overall, the hotel feels like it was once spectacular but now shows signs of wear and insufficient upkeep.
There were also several small but important details that affected the premium feeling. Upon arrival, one of the bedside tables was missing a lamp (it was later brought). The desk had no power outlets, clearly reflecting the age of the property. When we asked for a solution, we were given a very basic extension cord, which felt out of place for a luxury hotel. Throughout the stay, it felt like we had to keep asking for things that should already be standard and properly resolved.
The check-in staff was also less flexible than expected. We requested a one-hour late check-out and were told the room was already assigned, despite the hotel being largely empty. The approach felt rigid and not very guest-oriented.
El lugar excepcional, es un hotel con muy pocas habitaciones en donde el servicio del personal es de lo mejor. La playa espectacular. Repetiremos seguro.
Nada, todo muy bien.
breakfast was not included. the facilities were very nice. the staff was helpful
we took a boat trip for snorkeling and whale/etc watching it was awesome. we did this without help from hotel though. we visited several beaches via taxi... beautiful. and the national park nearby was great.
It was too difficult to get to the beach and pool; (over 200 steps down and consequently back up). that was not apparent in the descriptions. So this turned into once a day only, and not everyday. also sometimes there was no staff at these (for towels or food/water etc). The restaurant was more expensive than we expected. There was no coffee / tea in the room so I suppose we would need to go to the restaurant for that? but the restaurant hours were limited. Only breakfast (late) and dinner. They said lunch was available but we never saw that. Additionally, every other hotel had filtered water readily available (since you cannot drink the water out of the tap)...there was no place to get water, though they did leave 2 small bottles in the room each day. Temps were in 80s and water is important. Our other hotels were more intimate and friendly; this was a bit more impersonal, but nice. Most of the staff was great, but check in seemed impersonal, too.
Despite its 4+ stars and luxury description, the $500 Canadian we paid per night was ridiculous. The resort, the accommodation and service were far below luxury standards. The resort and rooms are run down and in disrepair in every way. Our room had a terrible smell, electrical issues, glasses not replaced, just rinsed and turned upside down, private pool wasn’t cleaned once over 7 days and one night a creature was running around inside the ceiling of our room. And this is a shortened list of issues.
Poor communication with staff and no follow up when issues were raised was frustrating. Service staff were inattentive when present. Many times there were no staff around at all. Note this is NOT a busy resort!
No towels available at pool almost ever. We had to hunt down staff and ask for them. They were stained and frayed edges when provided. Area around pool and furniture not cleaned daily. Beach chairs and towels never set up.
Very expensive drink and food prices and virtually nobody dining there. We had to walk to the restaurant to order room service. Room service dishes left outside room all day until 8:30pm despite multiple requests to remove. Sky Bar not operational ever and doesn’t look like it has been for some time. Main bar/lounge lacking in furniture and hardly operational.
This review deals ONLY with the restaurant. We were a party of five with dinner reservations. When we got there at the appointed time there was no one to seat us so we took a table. One waiter looked after a family and ignored us for the first twenty minutes. When he finally took out drink order it took 30 minutes for the five drinks to land on our table. I did notice another table of four came in 1/2 hour after us but were served first. There were four wait staff in attendance and when we gave our order we specified that we only wanted our appetizers first THEN our main course. Of the five of our party four were Canadians and the fifth Mexican who translated everything we said into Spanish to avoid any confusion. When our soups arrived our secretary, who did not have an appetizer had her main delivered. Then three Darado fish orders arrived……we ordered snapper! They took back the Darado after explaining they had no snapper. Why not tell us that in the first place. My wife stayed with Dorado while having her appetizer pushed out of way. All our drinks were finished and we had to leave the table to ask a waiter for more drinks. I ordered the octopus and it was served as a Quesadilla. I could not taste any octopus, just beans and cheese. When I looked in side I swear the chef must have held a photograph of an octopus over the plate because there was none inside. It was also cold so I sent it back just as another two orders showed up so there was little point in ordering anything else. We were going to order wine with our meal but due to the mismanagement of plating we cancelled the order. At the end of the meal a waiter showed up with a bowl of mashed potatoes. It was a side order for our secretary but she had finished her meal an hour before! That was great for comic relief for such a disastrous evening. We called for the manager and kindly explained our situation with most food being served all at once and the total lack of service. She stated that she would make a report. She did not charge me for the mystery octopus main but the bill was well over $5500 Peso. The wait staff looked confused through the entire evening and they never asked if we wanted water, or “how is your meal?” Nothing. When we needed something we had to track someone down and ask. I live here in Huatulco and I have never had such poor service. Quenta Real appears to be a high end resort but their restaurant failed miserably. I will never return. There are many great restaurants in the area that offer superb food and service at a fraction of the cost.
Beautiful views. Comfortable beds. Enjoyed our plunge pool. Friendly staff.
Lack of amenities. Main pool & pool bar/ restaurant, beach access very hard to get to. No fitness facility. Restaurants were expensive. Property is outdated.
